Pretty simple, who should be the next coach of the Kings. I went with Johnson.

Mods please delete the other thread, forgot to add poll. Thanks

Oh right, I forgot about Thibodeau. I thought about Silas, but hasn't it been a while since he last coached? Figured he wasn't an option

Any way to add more options onto this?

I hate to say this, but I feel all of them listed are terrible choices. The problem is there's not a lot of decent ones on the market currently. I might have JVG on there, but I hate his walk it up, D-up boring style. Flip Saunders is now off the market, not that I was crazy about him, but I'd have taken him over any in this poll. In some ways we might have to be resigned to the Maloofs going with 'ol buddy Whis for another interim run which could mean he's just around long enough next season to see who becomes available when the ax falls on NBA head coaches as the year unfolds. Heck, eight NBA head coaches got fired this season before the All-Star break.

I voted for other, I can't see Thibodeau coming here with the team we'll likely have next year. If he's smart he'll wait for the best opportunity. I would be ok with Silas out of all the names mentioned. I know people want an impact hire but we're still a few seasons out of even hunting for an 8 seed and Silas seems to do well getting a bad team with young players to that point, and I think he understands the difference between doing that and trying to win it all with a mediocre team and knows that is how he'll be measured the next time he is on the job market. I'm definitely not in favor of Jordan, Mitchell, Natt or Avery. Avery would probably be the worst choice since he has only dealt with pre-built teams and managed to turn the entire Mavs team against him.

I remember crossing my fingers and hoping the Maloofs didn't pick their buddy John Whisenant when he was interviewing for the vacant coaching position. But after watching this season, and seeing no major change after Reggie was fired, call me crazy but I'm willing to see what Whiz can do. I think he's a great basketball mind just sitting by in the organization waiting to get a chance. Like Purple Haze said, if it don't work out we might have more options halfway through the year. Probably only a couple more years until we can bring Adelman back anyway.

Are the Maloofs selling the team? The Adelman ship has sailed.

As far as coaches go, Brian Shaw intrigues me. Either way, management is going to need to give the next guy a significant amount of rope with which to work...or to hang himself. If it's a 'green' guy like Shaw/Thibodeau, then it should be 3 years. Year to year stuff doesn't work. Kids need stability.

Can someone please explain the Avery Johnson thing? I just don't get it. All I see is a guy with minimal coaching experience that was handed the keys to a championship contender. It's not like he had to do much. He certainly hasn't proven he can coach a team like ours. Maybe I'm missing something though.

I don't agree here. I understand your reasoning, but the problem is that you will almost never see a great situation open. Teams that replace their coaches are eiter formerly good teams trending downward or low level lottery teams. If we wind up getting a top 2 pick, I think we offer a pretty good situation for a rookie coach. He would get Griffing/Rubio, Hawes, Martin, JT, Garcia, Noc, Green and 2 more rookies and possibly a free agent this offseason. There would be zero expectations. Finishing with more than 16 wins would be considered a victory and then he would get another top 6 pick next season.

Really the only much better situation that could become available is Chicago if Vinny falters, but even then, they would probably want a more proven coach to get them further than VD has.

Well how about just a mediocre situation then? We're the worst team in the league with good reason and in a weak draft we'll be there for a while. Especially if we get a point guard who will need a few years to develop.

Every year 6-8 jobs open up, which is 5-7 that should be better than ours right now.

Hey, what ever happened to Flip. I certainly think he should be on the list. Personally I would rather wait till the end of the season and see who else becomes available. Other than that, Flip Saunders would be my first choice. After that I might flip ( a little play on words ) a coin on Thibodeau or, perhaps Pop's assistant coach MIke Budenholzer.

For some reason Petrie is enamored with Eddie Jordan. He must see or know something that I don't. Could be that Jordan has a good relationship with Pete Carrill, and Petrie wants to run the Princton offense. Coaches like Saunders and Johnson would want to pick their own staff, and it probably wouldn't include Coachie...
