Who is the Kings next Back Up SF?

Petrie has made it clear they are going after a back up SF. Are they going to sign a FA or trade. Let's discuss it.

bring back matt barnes? is he good enough to be back-up or is he more 3rd string SF? i'd like to see him back, simply because of the heart he's gonna bring with his game.

I've heard Eddie Griffin name thrown around here. He is tall and athletic. Can hit the 3. And does block shots. The most important thing to Petrie is he is versitile. BUT he has baggage.

There are not a lot of names on that list that get me excited. Barnes is the best value for the money. I'd feel comfortable seeing him get a few minutes every game. I like Griffin, obviously, though he's more of a PF.

I don't care. At this point We've got Corliss, maybe Kenny Thomas, maybe Garcia, B. Wells. We've got people who can spot at SF.

Matt Barnes? Why not. He's cheap, I just don't want him playing big minutes. I'm more worried about starting PF or backup PG.

Guess I missed the GP statement saying we were going to go after a SF to backup Peja. Just scratching my head because I can see RA playing Bonzi at SF when Peja needs a blow allowing KM and FG more PT at SG. Or, since these are supposed to be swingmen allowing them, depending upon the matchup, to play SF themselves. Seems redundant from all angles (except the experience one) to carry 3 swingmen on the roster plus two SF.

Corliss, unless he's traded. Why are people forgetting that Corliss is still under a contract here?

because he's our 3rd center....

Personally, my favorite name of the list is Matt Barnes...the fans love, he's a hometown product, he would be cheap, he knows the system and I can honestly say that I would be comfortable with him getting a few more minutes each game...plus you know that he actually wants to come back here...

Matt Barnes as our 3rd SF who comes in for spot minutes, and provides a much needed energy boost.

If Petrie wants scoring, and nothing else, go for Lee Nailon. Guy can shoot.

Gerald Wallace? Maybe?

Does Barnes have any bad feelings about the Webber trade?

All of the quotes from Barnes I have heard involved him understanding the deal as business and looking forward to getting back on the Kings roster this season.

I certainly hope Petrie won't screw this up like he did with Jimmy Jackson. Matt Barnes should, can, and wants to be here. On the cheap, energy boosts, overall play, roleplaying. He IS what we need, especially if we end up trading Corliss.

Matt Barnes ALL the way.

Oh good lord, please don't compare Matt Barnes to Jimmy Jackson. I know everyone likes that Matt Barnes hustles, but he's still a marginal player at best. As a 12th man, fine, sign him up for the absolute minimum, but if you really want the Kings to get better I'd hope for a better backup SF than him.

Man, people are so obsessed with former Kings players. Eddie House!! Matt Barness!! BRING BACK MICHAEL BRADLEY!!!

It's a big league out there people, and there are plenty of non-former-Kings players to draw from.

ok, i realized shortly after my post that i didnt say what i meant, or didnt make it clear what i meant, but was too lazy to fix it (hoping ppl would see what i meant :) ) but what i meant with the jimmy jackson situation was that Petrie didn't want to offer him too little so he didnt offer jackson anything. we could have had jimmy back but petrie didnt want to insult jackson. didnt know why it would ever insult jackson, and dont know why it would ever insult barnes, but it happened b4...

Making the next move at SF when glaring holes abound at PF and C is idiotic at best. Where are you getting this? Corliss is still here, and I assume Barnes will be back after training camp. Bonzi or the kids could swing there as well. Peja's going to be playing 35-40 minutes, if not 45, a game anyway. Wasting exceptions on SF is the least of our concerns right now!

Yes, PF/C is the next main focus... but on the SF back-up spot..

If we don't get Barnes (he is a RFA), I'd like to see the Kings make a run at Adrian Griffin/James Jones/Shandon Anderson. All are FAs. Griffin and Anderson unrestricted, Jones of course is an RFA, and probably stays with Pacers, worth mentioning though.

I don't think Corliss will be here next season. If he is in Sac, fine by me, I'd be good with any of the aforementioned as back-up SF. But would put 2 or 3 of the others ahead of Corliss.

The beauty of Barnes it that he helps us in the areas where we are weak, wants to play for us, and may come back on the cheap. That's hard to beat.

But I do think we have to avoid doing the let's bring back Mo, bring back Kevin, bering back Matt thing all at once, because as a I recall we were all concerned about just how empty our bench looked with that group 6 months ago. They would look better now, but still are nowhere near an elite bench (although evidence suggests having an elite bench is frankly 100% irrelevant when it comes to winning a championship).

Would like Matt better as a utility player #3 on the depth chart at three different positions than as a primary backup, but given his ability and willingness to hustle and stick his nose in there his change of pace from the man in front of him in the depth chart might make him a useful primary backup (especially given that I fully expect to see Bonzi swinging up to SF with one of the kids at OG next year.

Corliss is obviously a player with some talent and offensive game, but he's a very awkward player and I consider him trade bait if the idea is to get better athletically/defensively.

I've said this before, but after seeing Corliss playing last year, I dont think he fit the system. Sure he's our only low-post presence, but I don't think his low-post is needed because he gets the ball, then tries to do it all by himself.

To one-on-one from what I saw last year.

How about Mo Evans as Peja's primary back up?
Possible, but smallish, and costs us part of the MLE. Rather have Barnes and keep the MLE -- better size, cheaper, also has ballhandling skills that could be useful.

What about Songaila at SF? It's a versatile position, and he doesn't really fit entirely into the PF mold anyway. Signs are that Kings want to bring him back and he wants to return, and if he played at SF he could bring rebounding, defense and scoring while not having to deal with going against elite PF. He did have success against Dirk and others, I know, but it might do us good to play him at SF for some time.
