Since there is much debate on who the Kings should hire as their next head coach, lets put this to a poll, for the names being mentioned.

Please give a reason on why you voted for that person.

I voted George Karl.

He would give the team an instant identity and credibility. He would be the first legitimate coach the Kings have had since Rick Adelman left.

He also coaches the way that PDA and Vivek are envisioning.

Lets get it done, PDA and Vivek.

Honestly?

Mike Malone and a new GM.

Failing that?

I have no idea. I really like Corbin as an assistant but wary on him as a head coach. Fortunately we'll have the rest of the season to evaluate. On the other hand maybe we DON'T want Corbin doing a good job, getting the player's respect, installing a system that works etc because clearly that gets you fired.

I'd be really frustrated with Del Negro, Mullin or Jackson.

I think Karl is a fantastic coach but I also think he only has four or five seasons left. That's the big knock on him.

Because the best case scenario is creating a consistent organization from the players to the coach to the front office to the owners so that you can have long term and sustained success. I think that's absolutely critical for a small market franchise that can't woo big names to rebuild on the fly. That was a big part of why I'm so frustrated with Malone's firing.

To the poll: my choice was not there - whoever the front office thinks can be competent in pulling the team together and leading them in a winning dierection. I have no idea who that would be.

1) JVG
2) McMillan
3) Jerry Sloan for a shorter 3 year period, then have him help hire his predecessor

4) Karl might be the best of the rest and likely is the best of the options our weasel GM and owner would actually consider.

The positive takeaway from this is that management might go "all in" to aim for that championship. Would I trade a championship in the next 5 years for a total rebuild in year 6/7? You bet I would.

To be clear, however, I'd want multiple championships with a sustainable base team, but I don't think that's what the discussion is.

At this point, George Karl is the next move which makes the most sense. If the goal is win now and do it with an uptempo offense, it really has to be Karl.

...and I don't think we should wait until the end of the season while the early season momentum we had peters out into nothing. Make some moves, get George Karl in here working with the players. Keep building forward rather than sitting in this grey zone of uncertainty.

Agree Karl might only have only 4-5 seasons left (heck I'd take 3) but he's best bet IMO of candidates to deliver not only consistent playoff run but a title - dare we make that the goal. It might go something like it did in Miami with Pat Riley putting pieces together as coach, then elevated to GM, appointing successor Erik Spoelstra who in short time won back-to-back NBA championships. Give Karl the keys and trust that he'll have worthy replacement on his staff to take over when finally retires after his last successful rodeo ride in SacTown.

My prediction is that the Kings will announce that George Karl will be the new head coach, but he will take over the team after Christmas (maybe after the New year).

There has got to be a plan for all this chaos.

I think it will be George Karl, sooner, rather than later.

Even if Karl has only four or five years left coaching in him, that would still be longer than any Kings coach since Adelman, no? And longer than the average coach tenure in the league? I don't see the concern.

Karl. An established coach, history of great success including making the playoffs 20 of the last 21 years, always seemed to get more than expected out of his rosters. It's an easy choice for me.
Same here. If he can give us, say, 4± good years and elevate this team to PO contenders every year, I don't know what more you can ask for at this time. I think this team has shown they can compete with healthy players, so I say get a PROVEN coach that can get to the PO and if we plateau at that time, well heck, we can always re-evaluate.

It's like a man in the bottom of a well that wants to fly. Let's get him out of the well first THEN worry about the flying part.

I liked Malone and hoped he'd get some better talent around Boogie to work with. But given the parameters of the poll, Karl is my answer.

I picked other, because I do not like any of those options. Although I do not have an alternative that isn't already coaching somewhere.

The funny thing is, as a few have already said, Malone would be my choice.

Well yeah, I would have said Malone than Nate McMillan but neither of those are happening. Malone for obvious reasons and McMillan because his offense is even more "ground and pound" than Malone's. Going off what we do know -- Vivek and PDA want a more dynamic running offense -- it's hard to think of a better option than George Karl. I wasn't anxious to have him coach the Kings in the past, but defense-first is no longer worth campaigning for. We tried it, it worked, the coach still got fired.

i want the guy that the kings' volatile once-in-a-generation center trusted, the guy that managed to reach him, the guy that had him performing at mvp-levels. now, it wouldn't be fair to give michael malone too much credit for big cuz's development. certainly much of that credit must go to cousins himself. but malone had his back. and, perhaps most importantly, cousins had malone's back. they had formed a clear partnership. malone set the tone, big cuz reinforced that tone, and rudy gay got right behind them. the team had clearly followed suit until viral meningitis threw a wrench into everything...

mike malone may not have been the coach that was going to lead the kings to the finals, but he was the first coach in nearly a decade who had the kings bought into a winning style of play. it was hard-nosed, it was ugly, but it kept the team competitive against tough western conference opponents that would otherwise outclass the kings in most respects. that the kings' brass favors their ideology [and inexperience] over results speaks more to their [lack of] professionalism than malone's. as a fan, i'll take the results, thank you very much, pockmarked though they may have been in this extremely early stage of the kings' movement away from a losing culture...

given the poll's choices, i suppose i'll take george karl's veteran experience coaching winning teams over any other option, but i'm not looking forward to seeing my team revert back to all of their bad habits on the defensive end while the kings' continue to preach "offense offense offense" and "gimmicks gimmicks gimmicks."

Out of that list, Karl, though I don't think he fits the roster.

I have always liked Gentry, but you can't get him right now, and he may not want to be part of the organization due to the way they handled Malone.

If the question is "Who do I want as a HC?", my answer is Alvin Gentry.
If the Kings decided to copy the Warriors, then why don't try to adopt something that is currently making them successful? Gentry has worked with Pop, Rivers, Brown. That Suns team were entertaining and quite successful (I know it was only one year, but they swept Spurs:)). Also, Amare was often used close to the basket under Gentry.
Last year Clippers are worthy of mentioning in terms of entertainment.
There's hardly any chance of it happening, but in current situation I would like to see Gentry as head coach of the Kings.

Voted for Karl.
