Whiteside signs 4-year deal with Kings

Supposedly Petrie gave him the same a first round 30th pick would of got, instead of the usual 2nd round non guaranteed deal that he could try to walk on someday (ie; Brockman). Makes sense if we are gonna develop the kid.

Yeah, this was reported a while ago. Great deal that we get him cheap for four years for him to develop. The only downside is that, unlike 1st round deals, he'll be unrestricted after year four. The base is also too low to work as any kind of extension. So, if he pans out, we'll have to resign him on the open market in four years.

Maybe they'll change this with the new CBA. Not that I have any reason to believe so, just blind hope.

Just the type of deal you want in this situation.

This is an excellent move. The Kings didn't cheap out in order to get him for four years, and after four years you should really know what you have with Whiteside. Great, great move.
