Where is Monarchs stuff sold?

I am looking to buy another Monarchs championship t-shirt. However, I don't want to have to drive all the way out to the Arena to buy it. Are there any stores in Sacto that sell these?

My own experience is that it's very hard to find Monarchs items (or, for that matter, ANY kind of WNBA-related item) in "regular" sports stores.

Some of them even advised me that the only place to find Monarchs items are the Arco team store.

That suits me fine, since I live only about a mile away from Arco! (near San Juan Road and the Truxel intersection)

A fan from another board came across the country to catch a couple games this season and came across this problem. She said she went to the sports shop in Old Sac and asked why there was no Monarchs stuff available. The guy told her that MS&E (I'm guessing) only allows Monarchs gear to be sold at Arco Arena. Seems stupid to me.

I asked about that a long time ago. One of the store owners said they don't get enough requests for the merchandise, and he told me if I wanted to see it, get everyone I know to request it. Also, when the league first started, the WNBA had a very strict licensing policy about only selling their stuff in certain places. They did have a contract with Sears and JC Penney, but that was short lived. I thought it was totally stupid of them to have such a limited licensing policy to begin with. If the stuff's not out there, how do they expect folks to know about buying it? sheez.....

So....let all the sports clothes places know you want Monarchs stuff, and if they hear enough about it, they'll bring it in.

I don't think MS&E would say they couldn't do it....that's just a lame answer.....

I found a few Monarchs items at a sports store at Arden Fair Mall called Sac Fever. (916) 921-1701 Not a great amount, but at least they had some.

You'll find it near the Southwestern-most entrance off of Arden Way, near Sears. We should encourage more stores to carry our team's gear.

Anybody else find some Monarch-friendly stores?

Some stores (besides the Arco team store) might possibly carry them, but only during the summer, the WNBA season. And even then, it is only for very few items.

As for selling Monarchs stuff during the off-season...forget it.

I called just now and Sac Fever is completely out for good on the Monarchs championship t-shirts from last year. He said they only get one supply in, and once it's gone, it's gone. I hope the Arena store isn't the same story.

The Team Store is not good at refilling Monarchs supplies - I tried to buy a mouse pad last year but when they are out, they are out. I had to wait for this year. I did complain, but they sort of looked at me.... They did volunteer to go look downstairs in the store room, but nothing came of that. Get it when you are there Wednesday, Diva? Actually, it seemed like last year, they were mostly packed up even before the finals were completed!

The store in the airport now has Monarchs items in it but the selection is severely limited. I thought there was a place @ Arden Fair because I remember somebody writing a story about it for the Bee during the Finals last year and the slant being nobody carries the stuff because "nobody ever asks for it." Which I think actually is a viscious circle...nobody ever asks for it because people have gotten tired of looking for it and not finding it anywhere but the team store.

The arena store might be the same story because I don't remember there being a lot of choice in sizes and the stock seemed reduced to what was on the display rack. Those and some other items are about the only Monarchs merchandise sold year round in the team store - which to their credit I do think MS&E made a concerted effort to give the Monarchs much more floor space during the Kings season and rolling out new championship merchandise throughout the early part of the offseason.

Then there's also the matter if a Monarchs item is actually authorized and authentic. If an independent store is selling Monarchs gear that I haven't seen before, I would have to wonder if it is also being sold at the Arco Team Store. And if it isn't, then it was probably made by someone who didn't get a NBA/WNBA license to produce and sell official goods.

And personally, I do not want to support anything if it isn't authentic.

It sort of reminds me back in the mid-1980's during John Vela's Raider Lockerroom Store was around, which sold Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders NFL stuff in the S.F. Bay Area. When the Raiders returned to Oakland in the mid-90's, they were aware John was selling Raiders items. But when the Raiders opened up their "official" stores called The Raiders Image, they filed a lawsuit against John for using the word "Raider" in his business. So, John renamed his stores to John Vela's Locker Room.

It's all about the licensing and authenticity of the product.

I don't think there is enough demand for Monarchs stuff for people to be trying to create stuff that's not licensed and selling it in a physical store. If they was such a demand, they'd have the authentic stuff.

That's what I'm thinking I'll do, just get it when/if I go to game 4. I sure hope they still have them there, I want to watch the game in a championship t-shirt, I'm sure it will help. ;)

I got a 2005 championship T-shirt early in the playoffs at Arco. I do know the Sac Fever at Arden Fair has carried Monarchs stuff as stated above. The arena had quite a bit of stuff when I was there..

You might get your chance this coming Wednesday, during Game #4.
