I'm passionate about movies. I collect them on Blu Ray. I like the idea of having the physical copy in my hand...not a fan of digital purchase. It's just not as fun or engaging to me.
Also, the physical copy always comes with the special features. I typically only buy films that come with commentary tracks, unless I really like the movie, or a commentary doesn't exist.
My collection currently sits around 300. Once I get a bigger place though, I'll have plenty more space to really let loose.

I have a pretty substantial Blu Ray collection too. I also have a dedicated home theater with a calibrated 120" LED DLP projection screen and 7 channel surround even though I only have 5 hooked up right now. So I appreciate streaming but 1) I like to know the movie I want to watch will still be there tomorrow and 2) that I actually am getting the best audio and video quality available, which suffers from streaming.
Last movie watched was Straight Out of Compton. Enjoyed it though I had a bit too many margaritas at dinner and faded towards the end. Cube's kid was pretty good tho.
I went and rewatched the Force Awakens on an Imax screen before that. Definitely worthy of the upgrade.

I just watched "The Best Offer." It is one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen, especially one I had never heard of. It is a love story with a bunch of psychological goodies. It involves an elderly and incredibly rich auctioneer who encounters an odd young lady who would like him to auction off all her deceased parents' estate's art work, furniture and the like dating back many centuries. I won't warn of anything else except that if you make it the 2 hours you will be stunned by the ending. Do not read any synopsis of the story or it will ruin the experience horribly.
I see imDB rates it at 7.8 but for my tastes it is a 9.0. I found it free streaming on Netflix.

instead of watching yet another baffling/embarrassing kings loss, i elected to watch 'Ex Machina' tonight. i snagged it on blu-ray at the end of the year and never found time to watch it. holy s*** did i make the right decision in my viewing choice this evening. that was 100% my kind of movie: smart, spare, beautiful, full of ideas, quick of wit, carefully paced, complete with a pitch perfect and non-traditional musical score. oh, and oscar isaac turned in an absolutely stellar performance. that dude is f***ing magnetic. he's a star. he should be in everything. i really wish i had seen this one in theaters. it earns my highest recommendation...

i seriously just want to watch it all over again right this minute. very few movies make me want to instantly hit "play" once more as soon as they've finished. it's thrilling to find a film so perfectly catered to my sensibilities, especially as movie-making in hollywood becomes more and more homogeneous and stale...
I did enjoy Ex Machina. Watched a few months ago. Agree on Oscar Isaac, I think I first saw him in Llewyn Davis, and he had a kind of mini six degrees game where he kept showing up in films recommended to me. I loved that he and Adam Driver were in that flick and then show up in Star Wars a few years later.
I watched Final Girls tonight, it was entertaining but pretty dumb. As far as slasher parodies go I much prefer Behind the Mask, but I picked this one up in November as it just missed my 31 days of horror cut off in October and has been sitting on my shelf and I wanted something light tonight.
The other night I had a Rebel Without a Cause/Wild One double feature. I had never seen either. Kind of fascinating. To be honest I don't think I had ever seen a James Dean movie and the only Brando I had seen was Godfather. I like The Wild One more even if it was a bit over the top. Leather jacket porn, that one (I just replaced my old one).

not only that, but oscar isaac and domhnall gleeson appeared in Ex Machina and Star Wars together in the same year!! they didn't share much (if any?) screen time in SW, but their scenes together in EM were electric. that sequence where they discuss jackson pollock was one of my favorite moments from any movie last year (i love movies about ideas)...
and yeah, i likewise first became aware of oscar isaac from Inside Llewyn Davis (which is a criminally overlooked film, by the way). he had a small role in Drive (another of my favorite films of the last decade), but Llewyn Davis convinced me that he was somebody whose career trajectory i should pay attention to, and i've seen most of the major works he's been involved in since then. he was so good in A Most Violent Year, and his performance in the HBO mini-series Show Me A Hero is truly excellent, as well...

Captain America: Civil War - Little slow to get rolling for my taste, and the major plot driver is a bit weak (people mad that the Avengers characters going into battle sometimes accidentally kill innocent folks or there are folks killed by the baddies the Avengers are trying to stop). But the movie is good, definitely a must-see if you enjoy such things.

I'm near the end of the 2nd time around. Great acting. Nice twists. It isn't rated high but I think it was great. Maybe it's the actors I like. Cusack and Spacey at their best and the secondary characters were great. If LGBT stuff makes you queezy as an issue, there is nothing graphic. It is merely necessary for the plot and well done.

Addendum: The last hour of a 2 1/2 hour movie ground the movie to a halt. That's a real shame because I would like to turn the script to one of a few members of this forum and straighten out the ending. Cuszcki and Spacey had little to say or do at the end. BIG MISTAKE.

Watched the Revenant on Monday. Absolutely blown away at how good it was. Pretty much all I knew about this flick was the bear, so I'm not sure entirely if it was what I was expecting. Leo's Oscar was well earned.
Django Unchained Saturday night. I've probably had it on the shelf for 3.5 years and can't believe I never watched it sooner. Christoph Waltz was amazing. As usual.
Hoping to get more from my long queue cleared out this week.
