What If .... Lebron Signs with the Kings?

Thread title reminded me of my favorite "What If..." comics growing up....

...carry on...

Plus, the word is, Lebron, Wade, and Bosh are going to get together and talk about possibly playing together.

Ah, but have they considered splitting max three ways yet? Because most of the NBA can't afford even one guy at max, let alone three. The prospect of a $15M a year pay cut may make them think again.

Personally... I don't want lebron. I know its wierd, but I think some players are just TOO good to be on the Kings. If we are going to win a championship I want to do it as a team of several talented players, not as the team with the best player in the league. I like being an underdog. Even if we are were the #1 seed I still consider the Kings an underdog against teams like the Lakers for reasons I don't need to get into... and the only way that changes in my mind is if a player as good as Lebron comes here. I don't want that. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Probably.;)

I would have no problem having the best player in basketball in a kings uniform, surround him with the best talent possible, and build a dynasty. No problem with it at all.

Er, yes. ;)

Overdog me please.

I can't say I agree with what you're saying, but I know where you're coming from.

I'm just going by what I've read in the Chicago Tribune and the New York papers. The Bulls will be 25 mil under the cap this offseason. What they propose, according to the newspaper, is a sign and trade with Cleveland. This would give LeBron and extra year on his contract and more money overall, because the increases would be at a higher rate. Cleveland would recieve Luol Deng in the deal. Deng is due just over 11 mil next season. This would still leave the Bulls with around 12 or 13 mil left under the cap to aquire another good player.

As far as Calipari goes, he and LeBron are good friends and LeBron has already said that he wants to be coached by Calapari. Calapari has been at the last couple of games. If you don't think Calapari would jump at the chance to coach James, your crazy

Players that would be under contract after the deal went down would be.

Noah: Center
Rose: Pt Guard
Hinrich: SG
James: SF
Taj Gibson: PF
James Johnson: PF

The Bulls also have the 17th pick in the draft, which should get them another piece to the puzzle.

A sign and trade would just be wishful thinking on the Bulls and Chicago's part. I don't see why the Cavs would in any way facilitate their best player leaving to a team in the same conference and allow them to have cap space left to make their team even better. Even Danny Ferry is not that stupid.

Calipari is suppose to be good friends with Lebron, but as of today, Lebron has never said he wants coach cal to coach him. Cal already said he is staying with UK next season. If you have a link that shows Lebron saying he want Cal for his coach then please share with us.

But isn't it similar to Bosh and his situation? Bosh doesn't want to screw Toronto, so he has said that if he decides to leave, he would be willing to work out a sign and trade. A sign and trade could really help the Cavs if James decides to leave. Otherwise they have nothing but a ticket to the lottery. I'm not sure Lebron would be willing to work a sign and trade though. I have a feeling he's gone and not looking back.

If the Cavs does not help with a sign and trade, the Bulls will have to use their cap space straight up to sign Lebron, meaning they won't have money to sign another all star. If thats the case, the bulls are not that attractive and won't win a championship with that team even with Lebron. So then Lebron wouldn't leave the Cavs... not for the bulls at least. This sign and trade so they still have cap space for another all star idea is the only way the Bulls become real contenders and I don't see the Cavs wanting to make it happen for them so Lebron can go there. If the don't do it, Lebron wouldn't go because the team is not any better than what he has with the cavs.

The rumor is Lebron sign a 6yr 125M deal with Cle, and they trade him to Chi and get Deng in return. Chi actually would then have room to sign another max player, and Cle gets something in return. I have seen that on a few websites. If Cle wants anything at all and not let Lebron walk for nothing, they will have to work with him. Lebron has plenty of choices either way.

I know where you're coming from. I thought that the comradery of The Team was something special about it, something that made it different from other teams. But, at the same time, the players weren't all equal. Every one of them brought something different, and things like Vlade's leadership and Doug's D (for example) aren't to be belittled. And then there was the collective contribution of The Bench Mob, half of whom were good enough to start on a lesser team. That helped us immensely, because most of our starters and some of our bench could go off on an opponent for 25 points on any given night, and they knew it. Defending against The Team was a royal PITA.

But, when it comes right down to it, pre-injury Webber was a deadlier basketball player than anyone else there. That was partially obscured by Adelman's system and emphasis on team play, which made everyone on the roster look good. But he was our star, obscured or not.

Back in the day, commentators called us things like "obscenely talented," because the roster was so dang deep. I'd like to hear that again. I want a ****load of talent, at all positions. I want team play. But if we have one or two players that are truly great, yet willing to share the ball? I have no problem with that. Realistically, it's kind of inevitable that players will be unequal, but with good coaching and good morale I don't see it as an issue.

In fact, if we won the lottery, got Wall, and Lebron decided to come here to play with his pal, I'd be calling in sick, because I'd be too amazed at our good fortune to focus on work anyway.

I have this complex too, but I'm seeing a doctor :D I've heard of the mantra, "Never an underdog, but always rooting for one;" I've tried it, and I want a winner, it's better for the blood pressure. I don't care how we get there.

Is Chicago really so attractive like all the media is pushing?? Other than Rose, their 2nd best player is Noah. I don't see that being anywhere close to winning a championship. Orlando will be the beast of the east once the Celtics guys really get too old. Lebron back in the same situation as with the Cavs.

Coach Cal already said he is coaching at UK next season. So that part won't happen.

The Clips have a good team, which is why I see Kings & Clips as realistic win for many yr situations for him. But.... our Kings have Tyreke. No one on the Clips is on the level of Tyreke and Blake hasn't proven anything yet so that doesn't count.

Chicago IS the most likely destination for LeBron. Personally I think he's gonna stay in Cleveland but Chicago definitely seems to be the best fit. There's no doubt the Bulls are lacking good post players, but you have to give Noah some credit, which I don't think you're doing. Noah is a great defensive presence inside, which is what ALL championship teams seem to have. He's a very similar player to Varejao, only better. And LeBron seemed to like playing with him. LeBron and Rose is an outstanding 1-2 punch too. Then throw in guys like Noah, Gibson and Johnson + Hinrich and Deng (or whoever they get in return for those guys) and you have a very solid foundation for years to come.

If Sacramento was a bigger media outlet then I'm sure the Kings would be just as attractive a destination. Unfortunately, it's not

No offense, but go look up the word LOGIC... Oh and to answer your question, and being a big fan of the western "Have gun will travel, Paladin" I think that your probably in the minority. Or as to quote Vince Lombardi:

"Winning isn't everything, its the only thing"

Here's another good one by him:

"Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser"

You just gotta love the guy...:D

I can't say I agree with what you're saying, but I know where you're coming from.

Its not about where you've been, its about where your going. Unless of course your going in circles. Then what comes around goes around, except its always the same thing.

Lebron can go where he wants and when he wants. If Cleveland doesn't want a good player in return out of the deal, so be it. They then get nothing. But make no mistake. Cleveland is going to do what it can to improve their team post Lebron. I'm sure they would prefer he go to the western conference, but its not likely. So assuming he stays in the Eastern conference, they're going to play against him one way or another. So why not at least help your team by getting something in return.

Ferry is going to manage his own team, not try and manage the Bulls future by being vindictive and at the same time shooting himself in the foot.

I don't think its considered as "vindictive" if the Cavs doesn't want to help another team get much better and take their best player along with it. Seriously, Deng is not a "good" player... just a normal player that won't make a difference on a bad team.
Lebron has a big ego like every other famous star athlete. What are the chances of him wanting to play under the shadow of MJ knowing he will never ever measure up to it? Not very smart for the King James legacy. If lbj really wants to leave, its almost sure that he will be accomodating with sign and trades to a team that has more to offer. He is still a Ohio's favorite son and he does not want to seem like he completely screwed the Cavs. Even the Clippers have more talent and pieces such as a high draft pick to throw in.

I think if you are the Cavs and we are talking about LeBron James you can't even talk about him leaving. You don't help him leave, you don't trade him, and no matter how determined he is, you have to play this as a game of chicken, put out the max money, make moves in the background to bring in players or his favorite coach or whatever, have the locals sing "We are LeBron" songs, whatever it takes. But at no point can you ever show any hint of giving up, or helping to smooth his departure, or getting something back or anything. This is one of the 10 best players to ever play the game you are talking about. There is no consolation prize. You have to play to win on this one to the bitter end.

I can't put my finger on it, but something in this picture seems off.
Was it the headband? Cuz that was as close to Kings colors as I could find. Guess I could cut it out and tint it if its going to be a problem though and break the illusion...

Won't happen

You're almost surely correct.

However, if Lebron's #1 concern is winning a ring he seriously consider coming here. "Reke and King" (has a nice ring), would be perhaps the most formidable duo in the league for years.

Agreed, I just can't see the Cavs agreeing to do a sign and trade because that is them agreeing to let Lebron go. You rather he leave on his own, at least you don't help the other teams to be even better. Bull or knicks, I don't see them beating Celtics or Magic even with lebron.
