What does Clippers team has over us?

I don't get it. They just beat HEat by 10 and hey are second in the West. There lineup consists of:

35yo PG who can't play D
an ultimate ball hog on the SG
SF who doesn't care about the score as long as he gets his 20 shots a game
undersized (6'8") PF who is in all honesty the only respectable baller on that team
C untalented diehard

Except for Wilcox and Zeljko The Heart Attack Rebraca, their bench is nonexistent (go ahead, try to convince me that McCarty can play ball).

No one can convince me that this team should win more games then Kings. Is it coach? I find it hard to believe that Dunleavy has anything over RA. Gotta be some wierd Twighlight Zone epizode happening right now. I see no other explanation.

PG-consistent, makes clutch shot
SG-good, but ours is better, so N/A
SF-Athletic, can create his own shot and one of the best at getting
to the basket (so he gets to the line)
PF- who cares at being undersized, one of the best pfs hands down.
consistent 20/10 guy and one of the best rebounders in the league.
C- Plays his role. Nothing more
 
They have a good shot-blocker in Elton Brand but we have no shot-blockers whatsoever aside from Skinner, who never plays. I bet if we had just one shot-blocker in our starting lineup we would be a much better team becuase having a shotblocker makes it easier on the perimeter defenders.

That is a horrible assesment of their starting five. Give credit where credit is due. Apparently they have chemistry to go with that talent. Anybody who has watched enough basketball knows that a team can be greater than the sum of all it's parts, or which seems to be more often the case in the NBA a team can be less than the sum of all it's parts.

Let's try:

2 sweet shooting guards
1 hyper-athletic slasher
1 excellent post scorer/rebounder/shtoblocker at PF
1 dirty work center

They seem to be overacheiving, but when you get down to it they have 4 former 20pt scorers in their lineup, a frontcourt that actually rebounds and blocks shots, an experienced backcourt that can really shoot, and a good balance of guys that can score every which way from all over the court.

As an aside, Kaman and Brand together block more shots than our entire TEAM and outrebound our entire frontcourt. Makes a difference.
 
The biggest difference between the Clipps of this year and the Clipps of last year is that now they have a point guard who knows how to run the show. Brand and Maggette have been solid for years. Adding in a high percentage outside shooter and a veteran point guard has turned them into a team. Good for them. I actually liked watching the Clippers last year when they were on TV. They're a fun team. Plus, the Clippers-Lakers jokes down in LA still haven't gotten old. ("At least you're still better than the Clippers....oh wait.")

The Kings have at least as much individual talent on their roster as the Clipps do. We all know the Kings are underachieving right now. What the Clippers are doing has got nothing to do with that though.
 
It should be obvious what the Clippers have over us, but I guess it's not so obvious if the only player on that team you respect is Elton Brand. If that's the standard, then how many Kings get that respect? None?

Hmm...some of you guys didn't really get the point, did you? WIthout disrespecting any other team, and really only looking at how is my team doing, I looked at LAC to compare them to Kings. I mean come on, Elton Brand at 6'8" has more blocks per game then Brad and Reef combined!?



It looks to me that the only difference is that these guys made a concious decision to prove something.

You can't tell me that Sam Casell at his age is a better point guard than Mike Bibby in any respect. I am talking about the guy who was supposed to be a point guard on the US Olimpic Team just a year ago for God's sake. No way! Reef vs. Brand? If Brand is indeed a better player, it's only by a very small margin. Miller vs. Kaman? Come on! They might have an upper hand at the small forward position but that can't even begin to explain W/L column. Not to mention that our bench should KILL their bench in any 1on1 comparision.

Sure, Kaman might not be a better passer or shooter and doesn't have the veteran experience, but he's younger, more athletic, better on the block, a better defender, a better rebounder, a better shot-blocker, a better....

...you get the idea.
 
They have balance. They have "talent" in all areas rather than just scorers (except a quick pesky quick-hands perimeter defender). If you walked down and compared the two starting lineups this is what you would find:

Scoring: Draw
Outside shooting: Draw
Inside scoring: Draw
Passing: Kings
Rebounding: Clippers
Defense: Clippers
Perimeter Defense: Draw
Interior Defense: Clippers
Hustle: Clippers
Chemistry: Clippers

They have better rebounders. Better shot blockers. Better athletes. They are better balanced. They are not NBA champions, but aside from being, well, the Clippers, there is more than enough talent, and balanced talent, for them to actually be a winning team this year. And Kaman is a key that Geoff apparently does not understand anymore -- you need that hustling roleplayer. ALWAYS. We had one during our peak years. No idea why the decision was made to go without one now.

BTW, Sam Cassel was First or Second Team All-NBA 2 years ago.

Well, sure, the way Brad and Reef are playing right now, you can compare them to Ostertag and Harping (or whoever plays PF for UTah at the moment) and draw the same conclusions. I am looking at their entire career. Example: if I offered you Kaman straight up for Miller this last summer, you would have laughed at my face, wouldn't you? And if I offered you Brand for Reef, you would have given it a thought, then you'd look at their numbers, size and in the end probably say no. Right?

Uh...no, Not even close. If you offer me a powerful post scorer, major rebounder, and big # shotblocker for my soft post scorer, non rebounder, non shotblocker I take it so fast you don't even have a chance to come to your senses. How much do you think Brand would have commanded as a FA this summer?

Actually, no. ESPECIALLY on the Brand/Reef one. Brand any day of the week. No disrespect to Reef, but Brand is a GREAT player.

And I would seriously consider the Miller/Kaman one. We're unathletic and getting old, and Kaman would bring some youth and legitimate post play...these are things we need now, and we needed them then.

The Clippers have a great starting five...time to deal with it.

You should. And you should look at their career numbers. Identical. Brand has about 2 more rebounds than SAR, but Reef has 1 more assist.

I watched Brand in Bulls for 3 seasons almost every game. He is a good player, but Reef is much more complete player. A way better outside shooter, ball handler and passer. Don't forget that he succesfully played small forward for a year, guarding players like TMac, Nowitzki, Peja.

NOW you come to my point. WHY do they have better hustle, why do they have better rebounding, chemistry, inside scoring? B/c looking at our team, there is no reason why we couldn't do all those things. Especialy with our huge advantage onthe bench.

But Reef doesn't add anything on the defensive end as a PF. He can't block shots. He doesn't dominate the boards. And he doesn't constantly fight and scrap for everything.

I'm not the biggest Brand fan out there, but that's a guy with solid NBA talent and an even better work ethic. How does a 6'8" guy block shots? Effort. He doesn't have the athleticism of Stoudemire, Swift, Bosh, DHoward, etc., but he plays smarter and harder than each of those guys.

Oh, and Cassell is as good as Mike Bibby. No question. Might be better (and he's got two rings to add to that argument). At this point all Bibby has on him is age. Both are slow. Both can really shoot. Sam has a size advantage to partially negate his slowness that Bibby does not have.
 
They can hit shots in big time situations now, 2 nice guards that can flat out go off at any time, in any game, that backcourt is nice. Then you go on to an athletic strong 3, a great(Allstar this year) PF and a semi-hard nosed, sevicable center. Lot's of scoring inside and out, a little above average(all around) defense, good rebounding, and even a decent bench. Golem and Mobley have added the swagger though, it's funny to see a team with such a "bad" teamate as Mobley :rolleyes:... and yet his teamates love him and the team has great chemistry and are really exicuting at a high level.
