what does bonzi want?

25 minutes until Bonzi Wells phone rings off the hook. (or is it on EST?)

I hope as soon as the clock strikes 12:01 the first voice Bonzi hears is Geoff Petrie's.

Re-sign Bonzi!!!

League offices are in NY so I'm reasonably sure all official business is based on Eastern time - EDT during the summer :)

I'm sure they'd call his agent, Bonzi probably has better things to do on a Friday night in the offseason. Maybe.

This just keeps on getting repeated and repeated as Shaquille O'Neal and Zo Mourning hoist a trophy, with their team having beaten a squad with no less than FOUR 7-footers for the title. Forgot who started it, but some media guy I'm sure, and its rapidly reaching the level of Big Foot or the Loch Ness monster as a myth.

Its just such a line of baloney. In "today's game"...yeah right. Phoenix sure does win a lot of titles. Dallas might well have been the biggest team in the league. The Heat had two legendary centers at the end of their careers. the Spurs had 3 7 footers. Detroit was already the smallest of the elite teams and all they had was the DPOY at center. There being a dearth of good big men doesn't change the age old fact that if you have one in a game where the geometry is vertical, your chances of winning shoot up.

How influential, truly, were Shaq and Mourning? They're hoisting Wade's trophy. Phoenix has been to two WCFs in a row. That's never happened before with a team like that. And when Shaq retires, what dominant center will be left? (And he's not dominant anymore now)

Maybe Greg Oden, but it's more likely he turns out to be in the Amare mode. Amare, Howard, and Oden are beasts, but they're not the back-to-the-basket types that necessitate coverage by a true center. Detroit can remain competitive by letting the aging Ben go and signing a player like Bonzi. It is certainly an acceptable strategy considering the cap ramifications of signing Ben to a max deal.

Ok, its Wade's trophy in so much as he was the annointed superstar in this year's playoffs and he got calls like Jordan got calls. But having Shaq and Mourning in the game opened up the court for him even if they didn't contribute as much statistically. One player does not win alone.

Kobe has proven to a certain extent that Shaq didn't make Kobe a great player, but its doubtful Wade or Kobe win many titles without Shaq or some other dominant player providing some assistance.

Phillips, who said Wells wants at least a five-year deal, said the Nuggets would need to do a sign-and- trade since their midlevel exception isn't enough
