I've added "Collapse" by Jared Diamond to my list of reading books and I've been intermittantly been reading essays from "Dinosaur in a Haystack" by the always awesome Stephen J. Gould.

For fiction I think I'm ready to read more Kafka. I bought "The Castle" years ago but never read it. The last thing I read of his was "Metamorphosis" for a class in college.
I bought "Guns, Germs and Steel" a while ago and forgot about it behind several other books. Then I started hearing about it everywhere, and I've been meaning to actually read it at some point. My goal is to have it finished before school starts again.

I just started "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris. Very funny.
Sedaris is great, especially because it's a quick read and doesn't require a lot of dedication. Very good nightstand book. Naked is also a very good book. Anyone who likes Sedaris should read "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers. That's one of my favorite books.

Last night I re-read "Naked Pictures of Famous People," by Jon Stewart. Came out several years ago when Stewart was slightly less well known. Absolutely hilarious book.

Its a pretty quick read, as well. As a matter of fact, I found it yesterday put away in the wrong place and intended to skim through it, but ended up reading the whole thing in a couple of hours.

Have you read "America: The Book" yet? I'll never look at a textbook the same way again (of course I'm no longer in school so I probably won't ever look at a textbook again ;) )

I've been meaning to ever since it came out, but it keeps slipping my mind. Glanced at it last time I was in a bookstore, actually, but had already promised myself I was only buying things small enough to be read on a plane.

just finished reading "The Drowning People" by Richard Mason and was EXTREMELY impressed and completely entertained. It was recommended by a cousin and I had not expected to get into it this much. really good I thought. Also recently just read the sequel to "Ishmael" called "The Story Of B" by Daniel Quinn... what a great read. Love the way Quinn writes. Wonderful piece of work. Starting "The Alienist" next, another recommended book.

Going through the stuff I have in storage I came across the bulk of my college textbooks. I grabbed a couple to re-read/skim through again:

Joan Didion - Slouching Toward Bethlehem
Mike Davis - City of Quartz
Joseph Conrad - Heart of Darkness (perhaps my favorite work of fiction)

Diamond's works are all good well worth looking at all his work.

I've had chance to get some reading done lately, nothing recent but for anyone who hasn't read Dean Koontz "Cold Fire", it was great. I forgot how much I liked to read. Definitely need to make a trip to the library soon.

Anybody read any fantasy series they would highly recommend? I am looking for something similar to the Dragonlance series (probably my favorites) or the Shannara series from Terry Brooks or the Dragonriders of Pern series.

I just started Into the Darkness by Harry Turtledove. Looks like there are several sequels, but I'm not sure I am going to be able to get into this one - we'll see, it's early yet.
Thanks

Read "A Song of Ice and Fire" series by George RR Martin. Just finished the first, A Game of Thrones, and am reading the second, A Clash of Kings. They are very very good, and I am enjoying them despite not reading too much fantasy. I recommend them highly.
