What are you listening to?

Learned Kendrick Lamar’s “How Much Does a Dollar Cost?” was heavily inspired by Radiohead’s “Pyramid Song.”

So that’s cool.

Gave me a reason to listen to Amnesiac and To Pimp a Butterfly again too.

I'm considering picking up a cheap solo ticket to go see NIN in concert at the G1C. I couldn't name 1 song of theirs (that I know of) but love their work on various video games and soundtracks and, frankly, just enjoy seeing new stuff sometimes whether it might be "in my wheelhouse" or not...

Found a copy of Charlie Sexton's Pictures for Pleasure at one of my locals on my walk today. $5 seemed like a fair price in this economy. Looked pretty clean, put it in my ultrasonic cleaner and about to give it a spin.

Fantastic Bruce Springsteen concert tonight at the Chase Center!

Tried to post last night but obviously couldn’t.

Already had tix before the Springsteen concert popped up, and I was pretty wiped out after getting home at 2 am from SF and only getting 4+ hours of sleep before going to work, but I went to the NiNi concert at Harlows last night. Pretty good overall on her set, but I’m not a metalhead so the male singer with her was not in my wheelhouse.

Still, she was fun and entertaining.

Anyone have any Record Store Day must haves this year? I am not feeling this one but haven't checked the list lately. I'll probably go to at least two of my local participants since there's 4 within walking distance of me, but definitely not before the lines are gone.

I wound up grabbing a few items for RSD this year: Dr. Feelgood, Flat Duo Jets, Misfits, and the STP live record from the early 00s. Avoided all the lines and slept in and was pretty happy. My brother had a few items he wanted and I didn't see them. I went to three of the four local shops in walking distance and will probably visit number four tomorrow to look for used stuff. But I sort of blew my music budget for the month this weekend and on a few records I picked up at a show I went to last week (Ravagers and Clean Lines). All in all a fun musical week for me.

Caught this show last night in Reno - I had a professional event early today up there so I went up yesterday afternoon to spend the night and they happened to be playing at the location I was staying. While The Wallflowers aren't "favorites" of mine, I've always enjoyed this album so them performing it pretty much in its entirety and then covering an entire Tom Petty album after was pretty cool.

They sounded good, but during a live performance he sounds more like his dad than he does on the record (a bit) - a bit mumbly and hard to understand the words.

The opener was Aaron Lee Tasjan - never heard of him before but I enjoyed his stripped down set as well (just him and his guitar). Not *quite* my thing, but enjoyable.

Took my folks to go see a performance by RSVP in Roseville today - they are a great Sacramento-based vocal choir that puts on performances a few times a year for free - they collect donations for a different charity for each group of of performances. It's a great cause and they are fantastic if you like choral groups.

Each set of performances has a different influence or theme. Their current performance is based around the idea of self-expression, and their songs vary from smooth vocalizations to a fun number in French / Creole (?) about Carnival. Their overall song selection wasn't quite as in my wheelhouse as some previous concerts over the years but the talent and beauty of their voices is still amazing. Go catch a free show if you can - they are about 1 hour long.

They have a couple more performances next weekend and that's it for a while.

My wife wanted to catch Miranda Lambert and Chris Young at Country in the Park today so that was her Mother’s Day treat this year. We got tickets for a couple friends to join us and had a great time.

Heading out to this concert in a few with my cousin - will be cool to hear some Yaz tunes live!View attachment 14941
I've seen Soft Cell twice now in concert. That was 1.5 times too many. To me they are a 1 hit wonder and the rest of the stuff they play is pretty "meh" and he isn't a great performer.

Alison Moyet was great - played mostly Yaz stuff and she probably got the biggest applause out of all three and she was the first opener.

I knew a handful of The Human League songs going in and the rest of their stuff was very good as well. Really enjoyed their set.

They should have just dropped Soft Cell and both the others performed more of their own stuff. Still, a very fun concert. My cousin and I had a great time.

Saw The Black Keys last night. For a band that I absolutely know nothing about in terms of the songs that they sing, I will at least admit that they do put on a pretty good live show/performance.

Being in Vegas and having the opportunity to go to so many concerts is slowly beginning to make me regret not having an active Spotify account. I did have one at one point, but I never really used it that much, so I deactivated it. I might reconsider, and sign up again. I do enjoy music. And I do enjoy going to concerts (so much so, as a matter of fact, that most of the concerts I've attended in my life have been done so solo).

But then, I do not anticipate Vegas lasting much longer, so maybe I don't get me a Spotify account.

Or, maybe I do, and that will hopefully give me enough motivation to venture out into the local music scene wherever my next/future place of residence will be.

That’s awesome! I saw The Black Keys last night at the Santa Barbara Bowl and in my view they tore the non-existent roof off. This is a band built, designed, and tailor-made to be heard live. Such a gritty, muddy, garage rock experience that loses just a little something through the recording process.

Bit of a full circle moment for me as this site introduced me to the band during an album draft years ago. That was back in the height of their popularity in the early 2010s right after they released Brothers and El Camino in back-to-back years.

They’ve had more than a half dozen albums since, including this year’s Peaches! that this tour is ostensibly supporting, and still nearly half the setlist was filled with songs from Brothers and El Camino.

Phenomenal band that really seems to have crystallized in a specific moment in time. Thankful I got to catch on right at the peak of it, but I can kinda see why @QWERTYLICIOUS hadn't heard of them.
