Ugh... Makes you feel old doesn't it?

Yeah, it does. I was a high school sophomore when that album was out. Still, those songs aged well (they're not as dated as DeeLite's "Groove Is In The Heart" from the same year, for example). Everytime I hear songs from that Metallica album or from bands like Nirvana, The Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, or GNR's "Use Your Illusion", I hearken back to high school.
