What actor's body of work would you like to own?

Okay, we all have favorite actors. I own movies of a lot of my favorites - but I don't own the entire body of work of ANY of them. This got me thinking - because this is the third day without a Kings game and I have to focus on something!

There are a number of actors I can think of whose work includes a number of my favorites. There are some who have made so many good pictures that it would be a joy to be able to watch them any time I wanted. It took me a long time, but I finally realized there is one actor - not exactly A list - whose work always impresses me. I may not always have liked the movie, but I have always enjoyed watching him work. So, in my case, I think the one actor whose filmography I would like to duplicate for my own would be... Kevin Spacey.

If you could own the entire body of work of one actor, which actor would you choose?

I would like to own every Henry Fonda movie. And, for actress, it would have to be (without a doubt)......Katherine Hepburn.

You know, with all the girly talk about Peja and Mike, Catherine deserves a little mention.

Just saw Catherine with Tom Hanks in the movie The Terminal, and I liked the movie. Basically a chick flick, but very good.

Harrison Ford! He's slated for 3 new movies...Indiana Jones 4, Godspeed and The Wrong Element. Even though Ford will be 63 this year, he is still just as sexy as he was in Star Wars in 1977. He played in about 10 movies before Star Wars, his big debut being American Graffiti.

Some of his dramatic appearances are borderline unbelievable (Airforce One, Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games), but who notices? :p

My favs of Harry's are Mosquito Coast and Witness, and Indiana Jones is my favorite of his characters.

Not an easy question.

Only because of his Sci-Fi/Adventure stuff he did, I'd pick Harrison Ford.

Otherwise, I'd probably pick Al Pacino. He's been in a lot of great movies. Deneiro's another one who's been in a lot of important movies, like Heat, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas.

waiting until deep into this thread to ask this but depends on whether you mean:

1) the actor who is most consistently mesmerizing over the course of all of his roles, no matter whther the movie is good or bad; or

2) the actor with the best taste in movies -- the guy who always churns out strong performances but combines it with also picking strong projects. So a lot of top flight movies in the collection.

Makes a difference: I've always thought Sean Connery was a lot of fun to watch, but he's absolutely notorious for having absolutely no taste or shame when it comes to projects, and so he's appeared in a lot of absolute dreck over the years. And ditto for a bohemian like Johnny Depp who is a great actor but so offbeat in his vehicle choices that he gets himself into a lot of strange and offputting movies with no appeal to me.

Then on the other hand you have a guy like Tom Hanks, who has never excited me as an actor but who is like a gold standard when it comes to vehicle choices. Or even a Clint Eastwood if you're going for pure volume of entertainment.

Which brings me back once again to my obvious choice in the face of such uncertainty and vaguery:

Pauly Shore.

1. Turner and Hooch.
2. Joe Versus the Volcano.
3. Splash.
4. The Money Pit.
5. You've Got Mail.

...want me to keep going, or was the whole post sarcastic? :D

#3 and #5 weren't bad movies at all.

The others...well, he was just starting out. :) True story -- I used to confuse the guy with Steve Guttenberg back in the 80's because they both had curly dark hair and starred in stupid goofy movies (that's got to hurt your pride as an actor to be confused with Guttenberg  ). I was utterly shocked when he emerged as a big-time dramatic oscar-winning actor. There was a time when you wouldn't have caught me dead in a Hanks movie, and then he just started cranking out winner after winner in the 90's.

I was wondering if someone would ask. ;)

I was browsing through Amazon.com the other day. I noticed that while my favorite actors have a lot of films I love, each of them (including Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and Jack Nicholson) has at least one or two movies I would poke my eyes out before seeing again... Then I thought about Kevin Spacey. I couldn't think of even one movie of his that I didn't at least find interesting. All things considered, if I had the money, I would buy all of his films (that was part of the self-imposed restriction I made on myself). If I named an actor (gender neutral), I would have to be willing to own and watch each of his works.

I'll stand behind my choice of Jeff Bridges. It is Amazing the number of great films he ahs been in for a guy that is by most people considered only a mediocre actor. The short incompleet list:
Big Lebowski
Fisher King
White Squal
Arlington Road
Blown Away
Tucker
Rancho Delux
Cutter's Way
Seabiscut
The man has great range...

I dunno about the mediocre part -- remmeber him getting a lot of credit years ago for his his work in Starman.

And there's another one -- used to get him confused with Jeff Daniels. :)

Well I never considered him mediocre but he is not the guy who's name comes up arround Oscar time like Deniro, Hanks, or even Spacy.

Tom Hanks went to CSU Sacramento. Check out his latest move, The Terminal. He did well in that one. Did I mention that Catherine Zeta Jones is in it?

Johnny Depp
Don Cheadle
Morgan Freeman
Kevin Spacey
William H. Macy
D'jimon Hounsou

But, these are all based on the fact that the actors themselves are inherently watchable, not necessarily on the strength of their resume. I'm sure I've seen bad movies from all five, but can't remember any bad performances.

Hell, I got sucked into frickin' Chain Reaction on cable the other night simply because of Morgan Freeman. And, that movie sucks more than my vacuum.

And, I really didn't want this to be such a testosterone laden list, however, there are so few strong female roles, that I couldn't think of any actresses that didn't have a few completely unwatchable films in their past. Even my beloved Angelina Jolie has Hackers and Cyborg 2 (and Mojave Moon, and Playing God, and....man, there's too many) to knock her off my list.

Can't go wrong w/ Denzel Washington...I don't think that guy has ever been in a bad movie.
Now, there is a guy I really like. I will rent any movie he is in......just because he is in it.
