Fresno King
Starter
Trade Brad Miller, Francisco Garcia, and the Kings first round pick in the 2007 draft to the Bobcats for Melvin Ely, Brevin Knight, and Charlotte's first round pick in the 2007 draft.
WHY? Ely has a strong post game, plays decent 'D,' has a great hook shot, and is young (28). He's a RFA, so that falls into the sign and trade category.
Knight is the perfect backup to Bibby. 12 points and 8.8 assists a game! And a good mentor for Price. I hate losing Garcia, but I think MJ would want him.
Charlotte's draft pick is going to be a lottery selection (Greg Oden or Joakim Noah to the Kings?)
THEN: Deal Kenny Thomas and the Kings 2007 2nd round draft pick to the Magic for Trevor Ariza.
WHY: Ariza (UCLA alum) isn't getting any playing time behind Dwight Howard and Darko. He won't get much time in Sac either, but that's not the point. This is a way to get rid of KT's contract. Thomas is an upgrade over Grant Hill at this stage of Hill's career, and no matter what everyone says about KT, he's not a bad player. Hill is leaning towards retirement, which would free up $$$ for Thomas.
THEN: Trade Jason Hart to Detroit for the Pistons' 2nd round pick in the 2007 draft and cash considerations. Lindsey Hunter and Tony Delk are both unrestricted free agents, and getting Hart for a low draft pick is a steal. Hart could be a good defensive back-up for the Pistons at a bargain basement price.
AND: Draft J.J. Redick to replace Garcia.
FINALLY: Sign Joel Pryzbilla (UFA). I think we have a better chance of getting him than Mohammed, since the Spurs traded Nesterovic. San Antonio's going to re-sign him without a doubt.
Oh yeah: re-sign Bonzi!
PG-Bibby, Knight, Price (13th man)
SG-Wells, Martin, Redick
SF-Artest, Ariza, Monia
PF-Abdur-Rahim, Williamson, Ely
C-Pryzbilla, Potapenko (14th man)
14 is the max on an NBA roster, right?
Definitely more beef down low, a better backup PG, and a future top 10 pick. We get rid of Miller and his soft defense, Thomas, his attitude and his contract, and Hart, who never fit in. The only bad thing is losing Garcia.
