The answer to the why not would be a) the monster contract; b) Ratliff's age and injury prone nature; c) Theo's inability to do anything else BUT block shots.

Getting Theo is an idea, but every useful piece you give up for him (let alone a draft pick) might easily turn out to be a dead loss for you.

Yeah i dont want the Kings giving up any draft picks, we need to bring in talent on the cheap, and thats one of the only ways you can do that.

we'd be getting ripped off, i mean theo is a good shot blocker but we'd be stuck with an injury prone player with a huge contract again, at least with thomas we know we have a durable player.

"." <-----it's called a "period". please use it. I know that was your first post, but it was extremely hard on my eyes and mind. I don't want to be picky about grammar or anything, but sometimes it's just too much.

I don't like the trade so much, we seem to give up decent pieces for a name and reputation without much of a real court impact. I think we can get more than Ratliff for all that you would have us giving up. Not to mention that even if we got the best defensive player in the world-however that would be- probably wouldn't change the overall nature of this team as soft defensively. Take out one scorer from the equation, maybe, but we still need to take care of team defense.

Sorry guys, no matter who we get, he alone won't make us a defensive presence!

In fact if it were announced tommorrow that Petrie traded for Ratliff in order to make us a defensive team I would be disappointed. It would be escaping the problem instead of trying to solve it. Petrie has already made it known and it is something I have said for a long time now, Peja, Bibby, and Brad and the Kings as a team need to get stronger and more coordinated on D. I know there are plenty of people that think it is a lost cause and I hate to be the bearer of bad news but...its going to have to be that way, and it shouldn't be any other way.

While I agree with you that the "core" needs to solidify its defense more than we need to grab a defensive player, I certainly think it could help to get the player. But it will only help as much as that player can be a complement to the rest of the team. I think Rahim won't solve all our d problems by any margin, but I don't think that means it has to be a bad idea to get him. Although I still don't think we should.

Blazers don't need anymore young players, besides Mo would be on the bench. Ratliff is risky, but his shot blocking is attractive.

I don't think 'Toine happens, too out there, and plenty of others want him. Ainge also said no about the Kings deal.

doesn't go with what kings need at PF really, either. He's a good player though, just don't think for the Kings.

Plenty of others want Antoine Walker? Hmmmm. Interesting, but I can't recall anyone but Walker and his agent making that claim...

;)

why do the trade ideas have us acquiring old players?? we're trying to get younger w/ a solid group that can get us closer to a championship. if we were a team contending for a championship and all we needed to do was give up a draft pick and a scrub to get ratliff i'd consider it butgiving up a draft pick and a nice young player in mo evans for... ratliff? his contract is pretty big also. if he gets injured again we'd be in the same position as the previous years w/ webb injured. i say NAY to this trade.

29 isn't really old. Plus you have to look at the Kings as they stand right now. Bibby is 27, Brad is going on 30, and Peja is 28. If this is truly our new "core" then Petrie needs to put players around them that are in their prime now. Not guys that are going to need 2-3 years to develop. Having guys like Martin and Garcia are good, but any more young guys may be to many for the current squad.

And as for going "younger" I think by losing Vlade, Chris, and Doug we got significantly "younger" and that was the idea. Not to start trading for 22 year old prospects.

1) I think KP was referring to Ratliff at 33. Twoine at 29 is a bad idea for a variety of other reasons.

2) mentioned this before -- EVERY defensive team needs at least one very good defender to ebt he captain and catalyst. And yes, one player can make a DRAMATIC difference. For those with short memories, you need to look no further than our very own Doug Christie. We went from being next to last in defense to be being above average in one move. We had our captain. And we need one again.

Knicks/Rockets/Celtics/Cavs

Still talk after the Rockets agreed to a deal with Swift.

If his agent said so about them, then they were.

Walker isn't really the player for the Kings.

No. Because he was quoted in the news, he's the one who takes care of all cases and then reports.

Um...if you seriously believe ANYTHING that comes out of an NBA agent's mouth, let alone all of it, then I fear you're in for a rude awakening. They will look you right in the eyes and say 2+2 is most definitely equal to 5 if it gets their client a deal. Bluster, threaten, distort, and flat out lie. Actually would make a good name for a sports agent corporation, welcome to "Bluster, Threaten, Distort & Flat Out Lie", how may I help you? ;)

Kings113 - If an agent is quoted as saying something about a team having an interest in his client, it MIGHT be correct. It might also be "puffery," or simply the agent doing his job and trying to increase interest in his player.

Sorry, but if you think agents always tell the truth then I can only assume you also believe Ailene Voisin is unbiased and reliable.

;)

Yeah thats what an Agent does. Hype there player up so that other teams think that there better or a hotter commodity then they really are. Not saying that it isn't a good marketing plan, but i would compare an agent to a car salesmen. You just cant quite beleive what they say untill it really happens.

I never said always. Nor is that the case in general.

All I know about Voisin is she loves Phil Jackson.

What are you talking about? You're the one that started this with this comment:

If his agent said so about them, then they were.

We've been simply pointing out that your comment above was misguided. Agents are a lot like used car salesmen. They're just lower on the food chain. You know, almost down to lawyer...

I was just stating that I didn't say always.

The whole matter doesn't mean much anyways.

Point is, Walker isn't the right player for the Kings.
