before the season i thought the west was gonna be much better then this. almost every team except dallas, san antonio and memphis are playing around five hundred. im shocked:eek: that the west isnt better. almost every team is struggling.

Well, here is the deal. The West is really good. Most teams are fairly even talent wise so its much harder to get a streak going. There is just a surplus of talented teams in the West and none are head and shoulders above the others.

Pistons are better than any team in the west, and the heat are almost as good as any team in the west. After SA and Dallas, Cleveland, Indiana, etc. are all better than the west. East is better. PHX with a healthy amare are up there with SA and Dallas though.

The bottom of the NBA the last 2 years has also improved where they aren't easy wins/games or cruises; Clippers/Hornets/Hawks/Grizzlies/Warriors/Suns/Bulls/Wizards/Bucks/Bobcats/Cavs.

Injuries have also had an impact, relating to Denver/Houston.

no way the pistons may have a better record then the spurs but there is no way they are better. i think what seperates the teams is the bench. the spurs have finley, horry, brent barry, and nick van exel. the pistons have nothing even close to that. and you have to remember the spurs had the second best record in the nba without manu and hes thier second best player. and now that hes back they will be even stronger and thats scary as hell.

dont forget sacramento when you talk about injuries. i think the kings have worse luck then them.

The Spurs are the best team, the Pistons have the best starting five.

Pistons bench isn't deep/good. Spurs/Mavs/Bulls/Grizz/Nuggs/Sonics/Heat/Bucks/Cavs/Blazers/Pacers/Bobcats/Wiz - those are deep/good benches, indeed.

But we didn't have any in the first month or weeks of the season other than Peja's finger injury, they all came at once in the last week or so.

I don't have much doubt that the Pistons are the best team in the league. If they meet the Spurs in the playoffs this year I think they can beat them in 6 games if they remain healthy. One injury and they are going to suffer.

Exactly.

Pistons have everything to challenge SA. They did it last year with a not so good bench, now their bench has added Dale Davis and Mo Evans. Their top 3 subs are in this order:
Mcdyess
Arroyo/Mo Evans

Spurs is probably:
Horry
Finley
Mohammed? Van Exel? Im not sure who their 3rd best bench guy is.

The pistons is considerably younger though. Detroit has the best post defense in the league, Good defenders 1 through 3, all unselfish guys who pass the ball well but know when to score and find the open man, they have an mvp candidate, they're athletic, they can run up the score or play slow it down, etc. This IS the best team in the league, and I'm very high on them. Scottie Pippen thinks they can win 70 games.

I think if a series between the Pistons and the Spurs started today, I would not be surprised to see Detroit sweep the Spurs...and I REALLY believe that. I agree that they are not as deep and even one injury would be devastating. But they are DAMN good. They're even better than in previous years simply because Flip has opened up the offense quite a bit. They defend, they rebound, they shoot well, and most importantly, they're so much TOUGHER than any other team in the league.

Arroyo/Evans/Delfino/McDyess/Dale Davis (mainly there for the playoffs)/Darko vs. Van Exel (Udrih had a decent/solid rookie year, so there's him too if something would happen to Nick)/Barry/Finley/Horry/Oberto/Mohammed?

I'll take the latter, indeed.

Spurs also haven't been at full strength with an in-out Ginobili just coming back some days ago, that guy was a big key to their championship in a break-out year. Also is to the team.

Because of their starting five, no doubt the Pistons are on the Spurs level and could def. beat them in the final.

I've always thought that other than the Spurs, and possibly Dallas, that the East had more contenders this year than the West: Detroit, Miami, Indiana... and possibly Cleveland?

We'll see what happens if/when Amare comes back this season, too.

I wonder what the Mavs record would be had we had a full squad for every game so far...tonight vs. Golden State marks the first time the Mavs have a completely healthy team on the floor tonight. I just hope the injury bug happens early in the year rather than late...

hey atleast you are not the kings who have 3 starters out for a longgggggg time !

Hahah whoever thinks the spurs will beat the pistons is smoking something.... No way the spurs can handle the speed and toughness of the pistons... Last year the pistons fell asleep early in the finals, came back strong, and had it not been for rasheeds dumb brainfart play in game 5 the pistons would've had the finals won in 6!! This year they'll beat the spurs in 5, 6 at the most...

i know the pistons are super hot right now, but i think they will come back to earth sooner or later. besides, other then the spurs and possibly the clippers if you want to rank them as elite, they really haven't beaten anyone meaningful. they have yet to play indy, miami, or the cavs. i think when the schedule evens out, so will their record. i'm not a pistons basher, i still like them.

i think down the road, the spurs and pistons will meet again in the finals. again, i think it's going to go 7 games just like last year. call me crazy, say i'm smoking something, but i do think the spurs will win the title again this year.

Clippers aren't elite, lol

They're certainly one of the good teams in the league though.

Saying the Spurs will beat the Pistons doesn't make anyone crazy or "smoking something", it's simply realistic and a good possibility. Just as it is for the Pistons beating the Spurs.

Spurs are the defending champs, who aren't at full strength yet, and got stronger over the off-season. Where they're betterment from the off-season was done a good deal for the post-season.

They just beat the Heat last night. They play the Cavs tomorrow in Cleveland. My guess is that they will go to 25-3.

if they try to go after the bulls record they are idiots because when the playoffs come they are gonna be tired as hell. but they wont get the record simply because they dont have a guy by the name of JORDAN on their team. billups and hamilton combined are not even jordan.

From what I've heard Billups (x2)/Hamilton say in the last few days, they're just taking the season one game at a time.

Pistons are due to cool off here sooner or later. They have a great Pt Differential of 8.5, but that's a far cry from the gaudy 12.3 the 95-96 Bulls were carrying around. Pistons will eventually drop a few close ones, hit a little slump, lose somebody for afew weeks etc.. Break 60 I would think. But 72? Highly unlikely.

I wouldn't neccesarily say that "if the pistons were to go after the record they're stupid cause by the time the playoffs come they'll be too tired."... That's nonsense because you play every game to win and you play every game hard... Especially the pistons... You can say that some games they light slack off a little but nothing more... They still gotta play 82 games just like everyone else and they're still gonna play as hard as a 50 win team

havn't beaten anyone meaningful?

they won @ Clips (16-10 record)
@ Memphis (17-10)
Spurs (22-7)
Miami (18-12)
@ Phoenix )17-10)
@ GS (16-14)
GS
@ Bucks (15-11)

you don't see them as meaning full wins?

The Pistons have had one of the toughest schedules in the league. They have played more back to back's than anybody and until recently hadn't played back to back home games all year..they have been on the road most of the season and in the west no less.

So I don't get "wait til their schedule evens out" that is complete rubbish to me.
