Welcome to the Kings, Thomas Robinson

passion, fire, will to succeed, no excuses

Something hickson or landry didn't have

You guys got to stop that stuff with Carl Landry. TRob may be tough, but before his Sacto days Carl Landry earned the nickname Mandry for tough guy acts that would have TRob running screaming for the hills. He gets shot in the leg, he's back in 3 weeks I think. As in back playing in games. He leaves his teeth in Dirk's elbow, has 5 hours of dental surgery, misses 1 game, and is back. Landry is one of the toughest dudes in the league.

no question regarding Landry's toughness and if you actually took the time to read my post, I mentioned nothing about toughness.

Maybe you mistook the "no excuses" for toughness, but that was in terms of playing time and not putting forth the effort when unhappy.

Sure, and that is the unquantifiable. But size absoilutely matters. There is a reason the league is not awash in hardworking relentless 6'6" PFs. The smaller you are, the greater and more special your drive etc. has to be just to overcome your size. The same motor that might turn a 6'11' guy into the terror of the league might only turn a 6'6" guy into a rotation player. It was important for him to measure out smallish but not actually small. You don't want to be Anthony Bonner.

You don't score or defend with your head though.

He has a 7'3 wingspan.

That's hardly undersized in todays NBA. He should, if he puts his mind to it, be a solid 1.2 BPG down the line with his athletic ability and wingspan, maybe reaching 1.5 at his prime

Kirilenko has a 7'2 - 7'4 wingspan and is one of the greatest shotblockers in nba history.

T-Rob is uber athletic and has the drive to become great. So, he may find more opportunities to beat opposing player's ****

Guys do not start blocking shots when they hit the NBA. As in basically nobody. I can't think of a single example of it. Its something you either have or don't have from a young age. And if you don't have it you don't suddenly develop it when you reach the NBA and get far smaller than you were at lower levels.

On the other hand many MANY guys who were pretty good shotblockers at lower levels lose it when they hit the pros. As I recall our own Jason Thompson blocked 2.5 shots a game and was DPOY in his crappy little college conference. Then he came to the pros and everybody could look him the eye and that was that. One of the reasons shotblcokers are so incredibly valued/overpaid -- not many can do it at the NBA level.

Let's get positioning and team defense down b4 we focus on shot blocking. And this kid is already far ahead of the rest of the team.

The lineup I'd like more is:

Tyreke
T-Will
Acquired SF (Batum in free agency, a trade using Jimmer, Hayes, Garcia's expiring etc?)
Robinson
Cousins

That creates a bench containing an explosive scoring sixth man in Thornton, an experienced role playing PF/C in Thompson (if he's resigned), a change of pace PG in Thomas, a project weakside defender/shotblocker in Whiteside, a mediocre long SF/stretch PF in Outlaw and other filler.

More importantly it creates an absolutely brusing starting lineup that will run the floor, attack the basket relentlessly in transition AND in the halfcourt, defend well, and dominate the glass. Not ideal in a few ways but certainly a mismtach for most teams (on both ends) and certainly competitive.

Yes please.

Could really lack outside shooting if the SF you bring in can't stretch the floor and Tyreke and TWill can't improve their shooting game....but I'd love to start off the year with that physically dominant line-up and see how it all shakes out.
Though, I would probably want to start JT instead of TRob, unless TRob outplays him in pre-season.

And since this is a welcome thread...

Welcome Thomas Robinson. We desperately need a SF, but if MKG was gone, you were the person who I hoped might fall to us, and I'm very glad that the Kings didn't pass.
I can't wait to see you in there with DMC destroying the boards and playing with elite athleticism and relentlessness.
