Looks like Arco Arena will be named Power Balance Pavilion once the rights from Arco expire.

....Hmmm, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue

Didn't know where to post this, here or in Kings rap, mods can you change if needed?

Didn't that company recently admit publicly their product doesn't do anything?

Oh well, let's start thinking of nicknames: The PBP; the PowBal, the Power house...

Isn't everyone still going to call it Arco Arena anyway? Not the broadcasters of course, but it's always going to be Arco to me whatever they decide to call it now. I still think the Giants play in Pac Bell park, no matter how many times they rename it. Anyway, I'd be pretty nervous about publicly aligning with a 3 year old "sports-science" company that's all smoke and mirrors, but I guess their money is as good as anyone else's.

As stupid as those things are don't many athletes swear by these things or by those silly little titanium necklaces (watch a baseball game lately?)?

I know the year is still young, but this is probably the stupidest thing I've heard this year.

The arena is named after a sham product.

Ya know... Volkswagen. Fiat. Porsche. Audi.

The Audi Arena. Nice!

Power Bracelet?

I tell you, man, this is OVER. Given the latest sequence of stories about the Kings and the Maloofs, I absolutely pray that this is a hoax -- and I'm an atheist (no, really, I am).

Who knew that one of the Four Horsemen would be named "Power Bracelet"?

Even I'm pissed!

Perhaps it would be a good time to remind people that Arco is a subsidiary of BP. At least our new name isn't tied to the destruction of an entire ecosystem.

Well the name is pretty freakin retarded I must say. I don't like it at all. The next set of news will be if the Kings are staying or departing. By the looks of it, a departure is inevitable, I just hope they find a good market.

Um, Arrowhead Stadium is named after a company that makes big $$$ selling a product that you get for free from the tap. The Pepsi Center was named for a company whose products contribute to childhood obesity. I am sure there are other examples.

I don't really care for this sponsor myself, but it really isn't that big of a deal. If it helps keep the team in Sacramento in the short term until we can get a new arena, I would be happy with just about anyone sponsoring it.

Remind yourself of that the next time you drive your horse and buggy to the store. Or do you drive a car that runs on gasoline?

To partially tie this together, the arena proposal to build the arena next door to the current Power Balance Pavilion said it would rely on a $3.5M annual naming-rights deal. Well, I don't believe any sports facility in America currently has a deal of that size.

To put this in perspective, though, Power Balance has revenues of $35M selling a scam product. What was Arco's revenue? In 2009, it was $246B. Yes. With a B.

Is this the best the Maloofs can do? This cannot possibly be worth even $100,000/year. It's just not possible.

They can't find $100,000 on their payroll? Seriously, can't the players get together and each give $10,000 back to Joe and Gavin, and call it the Sacramento Children's Home Arena? Wouldn't they feel, like, 10,000 times better if they did?

It's a sure sign, folks. Enjoy your last few Kings home games, because if this isn't a sign that they're gone, I cannot imagine what would be.

Where did you get the $100K number? If thats all they got then really it just all ties in with how much money problems the Maloofs are having. And I agree that if thats all they got, they might as well just get some charity thing going.

The fact that the Kings will be playing in an arena named after a "scam" product just doesn't sound good. I don't see how they can extend their "success" after admitting their product is useless.

According to ***this site*** I count 13 stadiums with naming rights in excess of $3.5M annually and several more in that range.

Again, you seem to think a lot of things, none of which have any factual basis. $695,000 appears to be the smallest naming rights deal as of now. You're suggesting that the Kings would take one 7 times below the floor of the market?

And seriously, how in the flipping flip is this a sign that they're gone? They just signed a naming rights deal for five flipping years. Of course, they're immediately going to turn around and move tomorrow. Think. Think before you type. Please.

Power Balance's annual revenue is $35M. BP's is $246B. Yeah, it's possible that Power Balance is contributing $1M, I suppose, but just how likely is it? When your arena sponsor's annual revenues are $35M, you ain't getting much of a deal.

That isn't fair, BP ignored the warning signs and caused a disaster. Then lied about the extent of the damages while they tried to recover their well while it was spewing 1000 times the amount of oil they claimed. They used toxic chemicals to disguise the true extent of their disaster. While I'm sure the other oil companies are not cuddly kittens they have yet to cause a disaster the size of the one in the gulf. It isn't unreasonable at all to say "I will never do business with that company again" and still buy oil from other companies.

But for what its worth I take the bus when it is too cold, wet or dark to ride my bike.

the flaw in your thinking is marketing budgets. Right now BP spends a ton on marketing in many areas. I'm sure this is Power Balance's major marketing budget so they may very well be spending alot of their revenues on it.

Scam product or not, their money is just as good as anybody else's money. I don't care what they call the arena, myself. In general, I'm not fond of naming rights for arenas, stadia, bowl games, golf tournaments, car races, etc. But I can't blame owners for taking the easy money.
