Please tell me it’s not guaranteed.
Here are the terms for an Exhibit 10 contract, courtesy of Yahoo Sports:

"An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary agreement that isn't guaranteed. It can also include an optional bonus of up to $75,000 that will be rewarded if a player, after he's waived, spends at least 60 days with a team's G League affiliate. This makes the Exhibit 10 contract a helpful tool to bring in players to compete during Summer League for a roster spot on an NBA team or its G League affiliate. Each team can have up to six Exhibit 10 contracts at a time."

It is hard to keep up with all the moves, but ESPN currently lists five players without salary: Boogie Ellis, Terry Taylor, Isaiah Crawford, Isaac Jones, and the irrepressible Mason Jones. Of those five, Crawford and Isaac Jones are two-way players. Correct me if I am wrong, but they can still sign one more guy to a two-way contract. I was surprised to realize that Orlando Robinson has a regular contract, as does Colby Jones, both for just over $2 million. Alex Len, Jordan McLaughlin, and fan favorite Keon Ellis also make just over $2 million. What a steal! (pun intended).

Ellis is probably the biggest value contract in the league vs production.

He should be a starter game 1.

I believe Skal played for the Stockton team last year. So my suspicion is let him play preseason and if nobody else makes him an offer he’s got a gig back in Stockton.

Colby signed a two-year guaranteed "pseudo-first-round" contract after being drafted, so he's guaranteed this year and there are two team options for years 3 and 4.

I am not certain, but I think Mason Jones is on the third two-way contract.

Reading between the lines, I’ve gotten the impression that the Stockton gig was a move to do right by a very good guy who didn’t get the best from us the first time around and still had things he could bring to the table. Scal brings some skills, but I’m guessing it’s the less tangible things he brings that are adding the value that is behind this move.

Interesting take. I would note that he did average 7.9 rebounds per game at Stockton last year. We can always use more rebounding. He also "ranked second in field goal percentage" in the G league last year. He is now 28, at the peak of his athletic powers.

What does he lack in terms of skills or athleticism? As I have said before, I am not familiar with his game.
From my fan's eye view the problem is not so much with Skal himself. He has size good athleticism and a mature vets game now. The issue is competition. Skal dominates in the G League but on every team in the NBA there are 2-3 guys at the 4 & 5 that are better. So, it leaves Skall, like a lot of players, stuck either way down the bench or starting in the G League. I would guess his agent is very near the point of advising him that in order to maximize his earning potential, he should look to overseas play.

I think a big part of it for Skal is that he is essentially plays like an old school power forward in a league that has no use for that archetype any more.

From the limited glimpses of training camp 5-on-5 it looks like they have him playing center. IMO, that's the only position that makes any sense for him. But even then, he'll need to improve at a lot of center skills (going hard on the defensive boards, protecting the rim, setting good screens) and offensively I think he still needs to be able to stretch the floor a bit to add value.

Considering that right now his main competition for the 3rd string center slot is Orlando Robinson, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say he has a shot to make the roster.
