Our team has officially fallen in love with 10-days.. I guess the bright side is that he's a guard ... And we need guards.
Signing dudes to 10-day contracts isn't exactly a novel idea.
No kidding. But it's our 3rd 10-day in the last 35 days.
I remember the pick, and it was a "surprise" pick at the time with Mavs announcing, that they were going to try and make him a PG or at least a combo-guard (that for a guy, who barely got over 3 assists per 40 minutes his junior season and was under 3 as underclassmenI honestly have no idea who Jared Cunningham is did a search apparantly he was the 24th pick in the 2012 draft via Oregon State (CLE) and has been traded a couple times already and has had more than a few stints in the D-League. 6'5" 188LBS SG and athletic as they come.
Likely to back up Ben and we were going to need to acquire a SG in the off-season anyways so might as well kick the tires with this kid to see what he got & how he fits.
I'll give the FO credit for trying ... but seriously speaking though how many guys in the history of the NBA who were randomly plucked from the D league or whatever and tried out on 10 day contracts actually became rotational players (on a decent team)? The chances of actually finding a diamond in the rough are slimmer than slim.

This move is not about finding a diamond in the rough. This is about finding Ray McCallum some rest time during the games.
I guess it was a good thing that we let Jimmer go to a team that needed him. His playing time has gone up from 11.3 minutes/game here to 4.2 minutes/game in Chicago. Also, those 16 DNPs in 57 games here (28%) clearly were not indicative of his value to Chicago, who has given him 10 DNPs in 15 games (67%). (How's that grass looking now?)
Why do I get the feeling I am watching the pre-season for Summer League?
Absolutely!! But seems we might be forgetting about the "leading the pack" analytics the new Kings FO is apparently using. They will always see things in a player we fans don't and in rebuilding they need to look at as many prospects as possible, just like in summer league.
Perhaps the most enjoyable element of summer league is that everyone playing, except for signed draft choices, is available. So in one day to watch 5 games for $25 brings more than a hundred players on the court to show their stuff. Thats why its not good to go to the first game as too many of them are like overwound toys trying to show "their stuff" at 115% beyond reality. cruzdude and bajaden will again be there to try to sort thru the chaff.
I believe, Summer League games will be available online just like last year, so you can watch every minute of these pick-up gamesMan that sounds like so much fun I would love to do that one day.
I believe, Summer League games will be available online just like last year, so you can watch every minute of these pick-up games, though seeing players on the bench, their demeanor and interaction with other players and coaches is something, only presence in the gym can provide.

Boy, are we down on ....... everything? And good morning to you.
Good post. I will admit that you took my heat after I had read a series of quasi negative posts about a process that didn't deserve it in my estimation. Especially this last 10-dayer where we get someone else to play a few minutes at the 2. Besides I enjoy reading our players' bios.Wait, so you're saying that I should be excited that we gave a no-name player a 10 day contract? I think you're the one who's down on everything here. All I said was this whole ... series of random signings that started Orlando Johnson really haven't served/ and are very unlikely to serve any purpose. I'll buy Capt's argument that this case specifically was to give Ray some rest time. But like I said, it's about the bigger trend of Johnson, White, Reed etc. As Brick has duly noted, it's basically open tryouts. And all I'm saying is that the people we're trying out really aren't likely to be part of our team going forward. Sure, there's absolutely no downside while there is a tiny possibility of upside. Oh, other than just giving them money of course, but hey it's not your money so it's all good right?
How about you actually point out what exactly is so wrong or pessimistic about my original post before you get your panties in a bunch.
May I ask why on earth you are even bringing up Jimmer Fredette? What does Jimmer have anything to do with my post/ me?
Edit: I might have misinterpreted your sentiment here - guess what you're getting at is that it would help if we had an extra guard on our roster right now, and that letting him go didn't do him any good?
But besides that, I'll agree with your point abotu getting Ray a temporary sub. What I was getting at was this larger trend of signing guys which started with Orlando Johnson, and then Royce White and so on.
Jimmers chance came as a king. Ray is taking it. But Jimmer is now on the bulls bench instead of getting ray's minutes. Hard to see how we did jimmer any favors. Also hard to see how jimmer or his agent did himself any favors going to such a solid team. Needed to go somewhere he could get minutes. Otherwise what was the point? This move is not about finding a diamond in the rough. This is about finding Ray McCallum some rest time during the games.

We kinda need a backup guard right now.
Ray has played 45 mpg the last 4. Jimmer has played 22 minutes with the bulls. Total.
Edit:like cap'n, I couldn't find a better place to mention this.
Just saying, the idea that we let Jimmer go as some kind of favor to Jimmer rings false. There was a lot of talk around here about that. That's not true though. The FO openly made it known that Ray was going to get minutes, not Jimmer. Barring ITs injury it was likely that Jimmer wouldn't have gotten any minutes. Ray isn't getting minutes because we let Jimmer go. Jimmer was let go because we wanted to give Ray minutes.
