Remember to give the kid a break in his first few games, likely to only be 4-5 minutes each. Then we we pro and con honkers can finally see if he can bring that same shot blocking and rebounding ability to the big game. I'm all for it having seen what he could do last summer.

I read this message board everyday but rarely post, but had to this time. I am really, really happy with this move. The DL did nothing but help this guy. It he pans out, maybe other teams will use this model too. Looks like the GSW sent their #9 pick down a couple days ago to get some work.

Why the infatuation with Justin Williams
Somebody help me out. I saw him play a little in the pre-season. What can this guy add now, that he could not add in the months of November and December. And if he is that good, why was he not kept or picked up by another squad?

I don't know what I'm more excited about: the prospect of eating my words if Justin Williams turns out to be good or the fact that we won't have any more "sign Justin Williams" threads anymore.
Also, without reading too much into calling up an NBDL player, this seems to signal a youth movement. Mo Taylor was brought in to try and help the team win games. Williams falls decidedly into the youth movement/playing for the future type of move. I wonder if this is a harbinger of some other moves along these lines.

we would be lucky if he eventually becomes the next Theo Ratliff... he does not have the muscle to be a ben wallace type...

I am with the last 3 posts.
I mean, the guy did not even make the team originally and will now sit at the end of the bench if he even makes into uniform. It is not like he even tore-up the JV league.
Don't get me wrong, I would love it if this guy could make an impact for us. However, the unbridled optimism in this thread for his chances to make a significant difference is curious to me.

Could not agree more. This team has proven that it can be successful without a real effective center as Brad has been more down than up this year. I'm hoping that he gets some serious minutes backing up Brad and if he flourishes then it makes Brad that much more expendable, which is not a bad thing.

Just noticed on Draftexpress that they are now reporting that Williams' agent has confirmed that he will be called up Friday and signed to a 10 day contract. I think that this is different than the original article from Draftexpress in that the original one did not mention the 10 day contract. Whoa now everybody! Glad to have Justin back. Never thought he should have been cut. But the second coming this ain't. Its the style of player we desperately need, but the caliber is very much open to question. With Muss's seemingly random substitution patterns, maybe he gets some time. But note that they aren't THAT random, and the guys he would presumably be replacing, Pot and Mo, have gotten just about zero time this year. Just have to hope that when the little birdy or whatever tells Muss to put him in out of the blue that the kid seizes the opportunity. Or for a long awaited trade to free up time of course.

Actually I wish he were like Dalembert -- as in sizewise. Justin's biggest problem as an NBAer is that he's too small. A skinny 6'9". Has the game of a Marcus Camby with the size of a Shareef. Theo Ratliff really does remain the template I think, although hopefully Theo with a tad more rebounding. Either way, it seems likely he will never be able to match up with the Shaq's and Yao's.

He's not a muscle guy. He just brings effort, quickness, and hops.
Which is something lacking in all our current centers.
I'm happy to see what he can do.

I'm thinking that Mo Taylor is gone. I don't think he even played last night with Brad getting tossed and this was the team that bought it his contract and told him to go away....would have been a nice revenge factor.

im sure corliss couldnt either, but since they were tag teaming curry and ron was doing ok against lee it all kinda worked out.

Gain in confidence. Possible major gain in respect from Muss and crew considering many of them followed the same path.
The D-league may not be the NBA but he has proven on EVERY level he's played on so far to be a dominant rebounder and shotblocker.

And even though it was preseason, Justin's first game he got 7 boards and 2 blocks in 13 minutes!
He didn't get much time after that but this guy could be prolific in those areas right out of the gate.

It's not just the immediate impact that excites a lot of us. It could signal that maybe, just maybe, Petrie is focusing on the future by developing a few kids.
And besides, he's a legit 6'10 PF who blocks shots and has a nice vertical. We haven't seen one of those in purple for a while.
