WELCOME 2009 Declining First Round Draft Pick! I thought I should be the first to welcome the newest member of the Kings family. I hope this pick will work well with our 2009 Lottery pick.

Seriously, though, if Houston get a lottery pick and the Kings do not get this pick, what then? Do the Kings get the next year's pick from Houston?

According to Petrie, the pick has declining lottery protections for the Rockets. Should Houston fall into the draft lottery (pick Nos. 1-14), it retains the pick next season. The protections decline from there, though specifics of the progression are not known.

Right, in 2010 it would be less protected (we don't know yet to what degree) so we would get it unless it fell into that year's protected range, and so on. Usually, at some point after a few years, you get the pick no matter what if it didn't qualify in the previous years. If the Rockets collapse and suck for several years, we could be looking at top three in 2015. ;)

Welcome, Declining Pick. May you decline well into the teens. :)

It would take a total collapse by Houston for us to not get the pick next year. Stranger things have happened I guess, but I would be shocked if they don't make the playoffs.

I see the problem with Houston is the injury bug... if it is a lite injury year, playoffs no problem, but if Yao or TMac are injured in any significant way (as has happened in the past), they may not make it.

sound of static as you hear the public address announcer from Arco Arena

Welcome, Declining Pick. Just do your best and you'll do fine here. I promise.

This guy stinks, he's already declining when what we need now are guys with upside

They're always hurt...and yet they always make the playoffs. And that was before they added a third gun who would be only too eager to pick up any missing slack.

They've also got one of the ultimate "all he does is make playoffs" coaches. Think Rick is something like 15 of 17 over his career now, having never missed anywhere but Golden State.

But the annual nearly inevitable injuries might well keep the pick within the 20-25 range, rather than the 25-30 that the talent might suggest.

They are looking like Boston looked last year. Quiet and loud at the same time. Not alot of coverage, but just enough to make you remember that they just got a 20 7 and 3 guy, and forget at the same time. Brent Barry has a good agent, and i wouldn't be suprised if more veterans start to flock to Houston. They have a solid roster, and much of thier players are healthy for the first time in a year. If Mutumbo stays, they have a really good chance at winning the championship. Skip, T-Mac, QB96, Scola/Hayes, Ming/Mutumbo is looking really good on paper. If bonzi is a FA, dont be suprised to see him re-united with adelman/artest
