Webber's goodbye - Sacbee Ad

You will be GREATLY missed C-Webb. Don't listen to the haters, you were the heart and soul of the Sac Kings and we will feel this loss until the end of it all. Love You! All the best in Philly. I'll be rooting for you! (especially tonight against Sac!:D )

man - i really do wish none of this happened
If Webb had not given 30 pts on the night before the trade when Sixers' staff were watching him play closely. Nor Barns had given his double-double.

Rule for NBA players: do not play hard before trade deadline if you don't want to be traded;).

lol...very funny funsc

I personally do think this trade was an upgrade as far as the whole team goes. A big telling stat, to me at least, is the fact that the Kings are 51-17 since the beginning of last season without Webber in the lineup and 38-33 with him in. Obviously, that does not mean he did not play well or had bad chemistry, it just shows that Petrie understands the team needed to go in a new direction. The one mistake he made(other than trading Barnes) is that he made the trade right before we played the 6ers:). Facing Chris tonight is not gonna be fun, nor easy. Seeing as that he demolishes his former teams after being traded, I sure hope he only players 20 minutes due to not enough practice with his teamates:p

i love you chris webber

this makes me crr... again..

wow. i'm so sad. i will never forget you, chris.

What a Pro... doubt any newspaper in Philly will EVER publish a full page from C-Webb to their fans. Hope he can handle what he's in for there.

Webber's goodbye

Whatever people had to say about Chris Webber you cannot deny that he left Sacramento with alot of class and style. Chris Webber is what made this Kings team a contender. He was the heart and soul and I will truly miss seeing him play in a Kings uniform. I obivously do not understand what business decisions were behind this and I am no manager but I do know that the team will never be the same and that the fans were not something that Kings management really cares about. This is the end of an era!

I really love Barnes...trust me, when I found out Barnes was part of the package, it made me twice sad. But it was either going to be Barnes or Evans in this trade it seem like. Of those two, I would prefer to keep Evans. Evans looks to have more potential in the future than Barnes. So the trade for Barnes is good..as hard as it is for me to say it. :(

While I echo the sentiments about Chris Webber, of course, and how much class he's shown throughout this transition time, I must protest the idea that "the fans were not something that Kings management really cares about."

We are very lucky to have owners like the Maloofs and a GM like Geoff Petrie. While I was pretty vocal at first about not liking this trade, and for that I apologize, I cannot fault the logic. If this was easy, anyone could do it. It's NOT easy. Personal emotions have to be set aside to do what they feel is best for the franchise and best for the future of the team.

The Maloofs, Petrie and Adelman have taken a failing franchise that was the laughing stock of the entire NBA and known not-too-fondly as "Siberia," and made it into an exciting elite team.

Sorry, but I think they do have our best interests at heart because, obviously, our best interests and their best interests run tandem to each other.

I am still not totally convinced that the timing on this deal was right, but I am not going to second-guess that any longer either.

J-Sin first said it a long time ago and although I may have balked at first, I have to remember, "In Petrie We Trust." TRUST - That means having a true and abiding belief that what he does is what is best for the team. That's all that really matters. Would Geoff Petrie do something he didn't think would make this team better or stronger or more competitive? Of course not. Would he do something to sabotague all he's worked for the past years? No way. Does he have a lot more information available to make his decisions than any of us? Well, duh...

It's tough to say goodbye, and it hurt a lot to see Webber leave. I've cried, I've wailed, I've kicked a couple of trees.

Bottom line, however, is that life ... and the Kings ... go on. And, in the long run, this will all work out. I believe that because I do believe in Geoff Petrie.

AND, having said all that, I still will miss Chris Webber. He was, is and always will be a class act - and those don't come along every day of the week.

God speed, Chris. I wish you every happiness.

Sorry, trust is earned. And can be lost. I suspect I know what Geoff was thinking/plannng here, but I retain all of my concerns about him letting personal sentiment interfere with his judgement and the good of the franchise. And that of course would be a huge blow to trust since what is valuable about Geoff is his passion-free cold eyed calculations. If you ran a company, how much would you trust your Vice-President of Personnel's decisions regarding an employee who also happened to be his son? Geoff Petrie is not a religion, its not a faith thing, he's human, and humans can and do mess up.

So Geoff now has to prove it again. This first move in itself is not trustworthy, and its the most significant move in franchsie history since he brought Webb in in the first place. For Geoff to retain our trust, the move just HAS to be paired with superior secondary moves over the summer to recover our talent base, and prove again his trustworthiness. His past track record is great -- not infallible, but still great. And for that, for the trust he's earned in the past, I am going to wait until this summer until I know whether to cry "foul!" or not. That's what our trust in him gets him in my book. But if Danny Ainge were our GM, I, and everyone in the city would be calling for his immediate dismissal. Trust earns him forbearance and time. But its time in the face of what looks to be a putrid move.

I think this is probably the wrong thread to continue this discussion, but I am willing to give Petrie the benefit of the doubt BECAUSE of his track record. So, instead of assuming he's done something wrong, I am, as the eternal optimist, simply going to assume he knows more than us and has made the right decision. I think he HAS earned the right to that much, at least in my mind.

It could go either way. I'm hoping the glass I see is half-full and not simply an optical illusion.

love CWebb

As I mentioned I am not in management's shoes and while I obviously don't know all the business behind the decisions, I still agree with some of those who have posted here and that is... Petrie and the entire Kings organization are still human. Trust is earned. While they have had to make these decisions with the team's future in their minds, there is never any guarantee that those decisions will pay off. Because let's face it, for them it's about the final payoff. We all want to see our Kings make it pass those first few playoff games but I still disagree with the timing. It doesn't mean I don't have faith in the Kings or think that Petrie and company don't have the Kings in their best interest, or that the management experience is not more than adequate, it's that as a fan, I'm entitled to be disappointed, sad, and even angry with personnel decisions that I think will make it tough for those remaining guys to play through. That 76'ers game had to be the most emotional for them...we're watching at home but can't even imagine what it felt like to be on the floor that night. As far as I am concerned, Petrie's decision will prove itself one way or another. When that happens I hope there are no excuses. Life does go on. The Kings will adapt and Chris Webber will continue to make great plays. My only hope is that the fans that booed him at home, (Arco Arena where we are praised as some of the league's BEST FANS) and believed he should have been traded long ago, will remember what he brought to this team and to Sacramento. GO KINGS!!!!
