Probably not. And there's no reason to even think Petrie would seriously consider bringing him back.
I don't understand the Webber as savior idea any more than I understand the Webber as the root of all evil idea.
This franchise needs much more than what Chris could and would bring back. And, if he didn't save the season as some people would expect, he would receive the same kinds of blame that he's already faced. Why on earth would he even think about subjecting himself to that? It's not like this is a team full of warm fuzzy memories for him. There are only THREE guys on the current squad who were even here when he was traded.
Webber is going to go where he thinks he stands the best chance of getting the ring. Why wouldn't he?
I still think the best fit would be Miami, with Detroit second primarily because of his roots.

Based on what? Your finger in the air? The wind whistling through your ears?
And what is this old foe stuff? Chris was loved here, he isn't a foe. I was supportive of the trade, but that was injury and contract-related, nothing personal.

Sorry but you thinking it's a good idea does not equate reality. You thinking Petrie would do anything to turn this season around is simply naive.
He's pretty much made it clear he's just about ready to acknowledge the fork sticking out of the back of the collective Kings season.
There is NO real scenario involving bringing Webber back to Sacramento that makes any sense whatsoever for the future of this franchise. None.
And, again, you're assuming that Webber would be interested. He won't be. He's at the end of his career. He wants to go with a strong contender. We aren't a strong contender ... or even a weak contender. The current Kings are a trainwreck. Webber isn't going to buy a ticket and go running down the tracks to jump on board.

Bring help for what? Salvaging enough of the season to drop further in the draft? If Petrie does make trades, I have to suspect he'll be working towards the future NOT towards putting out the fire.

I agree. If he even considered the idea all he'd have to do is talk to his good friend Mike Bibby to see how "FUN" it is being a Kings player these days!
I think Webber would have come if we were still a contender. He said when he arrived in Philly that he hoped to be back as a King some day.
Oh well.
Now he'll probably be a Laker.

Maybe. That's so hard to imagine right now. I believe if we were a legit playoff team AND had a place to put him (i.e. a Vlade type hole that needing filling) he might have ended up here. At that point it might have been a good fit, and I don't think anything has been done on either side of the relationship that burned any bridges. If the situation was right, I think Cwebb would have seriously considered Sac, and if we had the need (and a chance) the Maloofs and/or Petrie wouldn't mind having Webb now that the gigantic contract isn't part of the picture.
I don't recall him saying that, Cal-Kings, and I have to admit to being a pretty rabid Webber fan. In fact, I could just about swear he never said anything of the sort. What he did say was he might return to Sacramento. He wasn't talking about the Kings.
And I don't think we'll see him in a Laker jersey for a variety of reasons. Here are two:
First, the Lakers aren't an immediate contending team. If he did want to go to a Western Conference team, he'd be better served to look to Texas for his best chance at hardware.
Second, the Lakers are rebuilding and looking for the long haul. That pretty much excludes Webber right there. This isn't the Lakers of the era when Malone and Payton tried to score their jewelry.

But...
I'm not sure that any team is a lock on the championship and 1 of about 8 different teams can probably win. He's looking at all of them apparently.
I could see him with the Lakers simply because Odom is out and when he's in, he's a small forward. I could see Webber working in the triangle quite well.
And this isn't about the long haul anyway. It's probably a 1-2 year deal which the Lakers could afford.
And I could see them do it just to screw Kings fans.

I think it's silly to consider the Lakers as a rebuilding team when there Management has said this year the goal was making it to the WCF.

Sorry, but that one you'll have to prove before I buy into it. I have all the Sacramento Bee sports sections from Feb. 23 through the end of the 2005 season and have read the articles more times than I'd care to admit. If there's anything in there that says Webber ever said anything about returning to the Kings, I sure didn't see it. I'll even look again when I have time, but I'm saying it's not there...
You're entitled to your opinion, of course, and none of us know for sure but I just do not see him seriously considering LA unless they really outbid for his services and I doubt that would happen.

I agree, I don't really consider the Lakers as being a rebuilding team. But, I don't know that Webb WANTS to join them. I think they are one of several teams he would consider.

I'm not going to make a Federal case out of it.
The reason I remember Webber saying this is because, at the time, I thought "Is there any way that could ever happen?" And thinking to myself, "no, probably not."
Also, I "heard" this, I didn't "read" it.
Then again, we're talking about Webber, who says all kinds of things in the moment that have little connection to what he really thinks in the very next moment.

I don't think there's any question that Webb would entertain an offer from the Lakers. Personally I'm hoping that they are at the bottom of his list.
