WEBBER SHARES HOLIDAY SPIRIT THROUGH DONATIONS AND EVENT
SACRAMENTO, Calif., December 18, 2004 – Sacramento Kings forward Chris Webber reached thousands of in need youth and their families this holiday season through The Chris Webber Foundation, local community based organizations and hundreds of volunteers. These holiday activities were funded by Webber, The Chris Webber Foundation and individual contributions from the public.
On Saturday, December 18, 2004, Webber hosted The Chris Webber Kringle Holiday Party for 200 at-risk youth at Grant High School in Sacramento, CA. This is the second year Webber has hosted this “surprise” party in North Sacramento and the fourth year he has partnered with TLC Soup Kitchen to provide some type of holiday outreach. At the event, youth were treated to an afternoon of music, food, fun, presents under the tree and photos with Santa Webber. Each child also participated in various crafts including gingerbread houses, creating snowman pencils, bookmarks, painting giant 7 foot snowmen and holiday cards.
Webber’s community outreach extends on a year round basis, but both him and his family recognize and respond to the fact that the holidays may be especially difficult for some families.
“I was raised in a family where community was a part of your family. I believe it is everyone’s responsibility to help those in need” Webber stated.
“I’m proud and appreciative for all those who helped make the event a success. I hope the kids had as much fun as I did” Webber remarked regarding The Chris Webber Kringle Holiday Party.
Webber has received the NBA’ Community Assist Award, the Sacramento Kings Oscar Robertson “Tripple-Double” Award and the 2003 Sacramento Make A Wish “Wishmaker of the Year” Award. He was recently appointed to the National Advisory Council of the Make A Wish Foundation for his time towards meeting youth with life threatening diseases.
