Watching Buddy Hield...

What do you see as Buddy's role going forward?

Buddy is the closest thing to a scoring machine on the roster. I think he should start. He has the big motor and works hard on defense. He is a good rebounder for a guard. Not the best handle. He has more confidence in his shot making than anyone around. I like Buddy more all the time, besides no one can out talk him.

I said other.
He is starter quality absolutely. But so is Bogs

He is a vital piece of the guard rotation and going to clock about the same mins a game as Boggie and Fox. When he comes into games is more about fit and strategy than "who is the starter" i.e. more valuable player. This is a Ginobili type of situation with Boggie and Hield. I can see reasons for either to be the 6th man but clearly we all know down the stretch fox bogs and hield will all be on the floor

I trust the coach to find a good solution. I would try Shump as a starting SF, either Bogdan or Buddy starting SG, another one from the banch. Later in a game, depending on circumstances they play together extended period.

Starter. He's a starter.

He's an ~18 point scorer, shoots 40-something percent from 3, pulls down 5-6 rebounds a game as a 6'4 2 guard, and is a good defender. The Jamal Crawford/Lou Williams role is kind of a disservice to him. People talk about Bogdan as starter and Buddy as 6th man, but I've always felt it should be the other way around. That's in a perfect world though, and with the gaping wound at SF they both need to start until further notice.

Fox
Buddy
Bogi
Beli (to clarify: Bjelica)
WCS

There's your five going forward.

Incredible that we still have Bagley to toss in there, so, could change. Not a bad problem to have.

Buddy has massive potential as a high volume scorer that can hold his own in other areas.

The offensive efficiency of this team can be off the charts when it gels more, already is very good.

Team defense takes longer to gel but has shown signs, and for once we have no major holes defensively.

You can't win in the NBA right now without 2 or 3 good to great outside shooters on the floor. Buddy has been doing it long enough at this point (43% on 580 3PA since being traded to Sacramento) that it's fair to call him a legitimately great shooter. He might not have the volume as some of the other top guys in the league but you can't complain about his percentage.

Shumpert's early season success looks flukey in light of his career averages so we should expect some reversion there. Bjelica has been very good and Bogdanovic was very good last year but Buddy is the best shooter on the team without question and that means he's the straw that stirs the drink right now. In a way, he may be the most important player on the floor for us offensively. So bottom line, he's going to get his minutes because we need his shooting ability on the floor as much as possible. Whether that makes him a starter or a 6th man is semantics really.

I wanna change my vote!

I liked Buddy as a 6th man so that he could carry the 2nd unit, while Bogi would help Fox with ball handling duties...

But Buckets is a baller. Ballers get the start.

And then I get to thinking about Bogi in that Manu role..... scoring AND playmaking on the bench? Bogi is about to make Bagley look like the ROY!

Gah! This team is just scratching the surface!

I prefer Buddy Hield as a starter. Probably is only one on team fully capable any night putting up 20+ points. Not that he always will but has the pure shooting ability and now ability to get comfortable off the dribble looks to fill it up. Plus - and this might be just as important. Hield best FT shooter on a weak Kings team from charity stripe. It's called "charity" for a reason. You have to make them at high rate in NBA or you will simply lose games, blow games should have won. #24 will hit them down the stretch, both big shots and from charity stripe to close out games. Tough minded dude with killer instinct - desirable leadership qualities.

I was very much in favor of just starting our best players and figuring it out from there, but seeing the chemistry the starters are building right now, is having me reconsider bringing Bogdan off the bench and letting him and Bagley dominate other 2nd units. You just can't put Hield on the bench anymore;he's working so well as a compliment off of Fox and WCS and his continued development as an effective 20 PPG scorer.

You just run the rotation almost to a T how OKC treated the Russ/KD/Harden squad. Shump gets the first 6-7 minutes against the best opposing wing , and then Bogdan gets to come in fresh vs tired starters and other benches. It also makes it significantly easier to have one of Fox or Bogdan on the floor at all times by giving Bogdan his 30 minutes off the bench.

The highest compliment I can pay to Buddy is that, like Peja Stojakovic in his prime, each and every time I see him with an open or loosely contested shot --- I expect it to go in. I actually get a little ticked off when it doesn't go in. My expectation of his shot is that high.

He's that good of a shooter.

We've got a thread for WCS so I thought maybe a thread to track/discuss Buddy's progress would also be a good idea. Scrolling through Twitter, I found this and thought it was a great way to start said thread.

The only player that has ever frustrated me as much as Buddy was Francisco Garcia. I honestly think Buddy could be much better, especially in the 6th man role - but only if he can find a way to keep from shooting himself in the foot. What say you?
DEFINITELY not Cisco. Much better player. I believe in Master Buckets!

i will take a few mistakes as long as keeps coming with 20pts 6reb and 3 ast every night on 50% + shooting

Man, I take back what I said about Buddy earlier in this thread. Kings are rolling and he is playing so much smarter and more efficiently than what I thought he would. Go Buddy!

Pretty sure Bogs is gonna start at 3 when he comes back. He's got the size to handle most guys at 3 and maybe the nights he doesn't we can have someone else start at 3. At least until we get a legit 3 man.

I’d like to see bogi as the 6th man and stagger the rotation to where he comes in for fox and stays on for buddy when fox comes back. Buddy not the best at handling the ball so keeping one of Fox or bogi on the court could mean less lulls. Kinda like Bobby Jackson came in for both mike and Doug. Also for extra time bogi at the 3. He could definitely get 33-36 min a night at 3 positions. And in crunch time have him finish out the game at the 3 with fox and heild. Less time for Jackson, mason, yogi and shump

Mason, shump, yogi, and Jackson had a combined 71 min against the hawks. I could see bogi easily getting 30+ of that. This starting backcourt should not be messed with right now. Last year fox needed bogi and his handling this year he doesn’t but we need it when fox goes to bench

He’s never seeing the bench again, this poll might not age well..

His playmaking from last year to this year though... but I had him “Harden-lite” for years
