So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

More obscure than my joke about a TV show from 2005 that got cancelled after 13 episodes?
Well it was a junior dance team tonight. I think Norm and Ed would have approved of their actual name DNA Dance Collective or something. But yes I think yours may be even more obscure.

I don't think Domas can ever sustain a Jokic level scoring workload.. Which.. is fine! Jokic is a top 20 player if he retired tomorrow. I think a better historical context for Domas is actually our very own C-Webb and players in that range. Domas being a better passer, C-Webb a better scorer.
If you dive into the stats, it's a closer call than you might think. Degree of difficulty gets you bonus points on highlight reels and in the minds of voters but a quick efficient hook shot instead of a fallaway jumper is almost always a better shot and the way Domas can seal off a defender and put the ball right where it needs to be is just as good in terms of the final result as a bullet pass across the court.

The stats, of course. Domas shines as a scorer. Nearly 20 a game above 60% TS is outstanding. But he's just not wired as a scorer; he's wired as an offensive maestro. He wants the offense to run rather than look for his own shot. Jokic does the same, but Jokic also has that instinct (and ability) to just put the team on his back and go score 40. That's what he's missing in his game to be a 25-30 PPG scorer. And I just don't think that's even close to the best part of his game.

Vezenkov pulled down 5 boards in 7 minutes and Trey Lyles has put up nothing but 0's in 9 minutes. I think Sasha has made a pretty strong argument for getting more minutes over Lyles in the 4th quarter.

I don't want to derail the game thread any more than I already have, I'll just add that Sabonis' willingness to pass instead of padding his own scoring numbers is part of why I think he's a lot better than he gets credit for. Teams don't need multiple "put this team on my back" guys and when a team has too many guys with that mindset it often creates bigger problems.

Katie just said "You don't ever want to embarrass a team, but..."

My question is why not? Why in the world would you not want to absolutely humiliate your opponent within the rules of the game? These are grown men playing for keeps.

Yes, you absolutely should be aiming to embarrass the heck out of your opponent. Getting up by 30 and letting is slip to 15 is embarrassing for us!
