Warriors Waive Adonal Foyle

Too bad in a way, he was one of those contracts where I had half a hope we might be able to trade one of our guys ending in three years for his deal ending in two.

Also, while he's not much, could see him being signed on the cheap byu the Celtics. Or almost hopefully, because otherwise he goes somewhere and fills some team's need for an extra big, and cheaply (since he'll be free to sign for the minimum wiht the buyout money still coming). And hence will close one more door to us in trying to move our turds, if they are even moveable.

Damn, that sucks for me, just on aesthetic level.

Foyle may not have been much, but he was one of the last handful of players left in the league that have been around for at least nine years and only ever played for one team.

I like to identify players with teams, so I hate to see guys that were lifers be traded/cut/leave in free agency/whatever, regardless of their relative skill level: a lifer is a lifer, and I'm the type of fan that has always had unconditional respect for that. Since the start of last season, we've seen Garnett (Timberwolves - trade), Iverson (76ers - trade) and Foyle (Warriors - waived), all guys that had played all of at least a 9+ year career with one team relocated. And plus, you have Peterson, who played all seven years with Toronto, leaving for "greener pastures."

Of the guys who've played at least nine years with one team that are left:

Code:
Kobe Bryant Lakers 11yrs
Tim Duncan Spurs 10yrs
Zydrunas Ilgauskas	Cavaliers	9yrs*
Dirk Nowitzki Mavericks	9yrs
Paul Pierce Celtics 9yrs
* Ilgauskas was drafted in 1996, but missed all of the 1996-97 AND 1999-00 seasons due to injury.

I'd say that the only guy thats a lock to stay is Duncan... A year ago, I'd have included Bryant on that list but, then again, a year ago, I HAD Iverson on that list... Next year, you should be able to add Marion and Kirilenko (and possibly Foster) to that list as well, though.

Think Pierce's chance of staying have just shot through the roof. Dooubt he'd be going anywhere before he;s 35 at least now while they try to make title runs.

Asd an aside, don;t think AK47 is 9th year yet is he? maybe drafted 2000 or 2001?

I like to identify players with teams,

How many players who retired after 1980 would meet those terms? Minimum 10 yrs. Quite a few candidates (Cowens, Moncrief, Gervin, Blackman, English, Malone, etc) played their last season w/ another team.

Any I'm missing here?

Already, been hearing things about him signing with the Magic. There goes the Brad for their expirings possibility...

Yep noted that too -- while we wait and wait and wait trying to get teams to get desperate, they seem to be routinely flipping us the bird and filling their needs through other cheaper, more reasonable means.

Alvin Adams

and you've got a number of ones who were very close -- KJ, Laimbeer etc. who got traded in their first or second year and then stayed to the end.

Besides, if the issue is long term guys abandoning their franchises, then trades (at least non-forced ones) really shouldn't matter. Although I suppose that's often a sign the team has given up on the player rather than vice versa.
