wade takes jabs at dirk... so, cuban fires right back in his blog!

DIG AT DIRK
After the Heat practiced Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena, Wade was asked if he believes players are ultimately remembered for what they do at the end of games.

Wade, who usually is selective and subtle with his criticisms of opposing players, took the opportunity to take a jab at Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, who has failed to give the Heat credit for beating the Mavericks in the Finals last season.

''At the end of the day,'' Wade said, ``you're remembered for what you did at the end. . . . I think that's the reason -- Dirk says they gave us the championship last year, but he's the reason they lost the championship, because he wasn't the leader that he's supposed to be in the closing moments. That's because of great defense by us, but also he wasn't assertive enough as a leader's supposed to be.''
Say what ? Is this the DWade of some of the lamest , boring commercials known to man ? Commercials that are singlehandedly responsible for selling more commercial skipping Tivos than anything else on TV ?

Dwayne I don't blame you for not looking at tapes of the finals. You obviously didn't. You would have seen your unbelievable skills and some other unbelievable elements that if I could discuss honestly here I would get fined for.

You are right, endings are remembered. And the ending of 3 of the games of the Finals will be remembered alongside Game 6 of the King vs Lakers Conf Finals a few years ago.

I guess you have earned the right to criticize Dirk with an obvious display of your own leadership skills.

I know Shaq appreciates your leadership as well. He called out your team a few weeks ago saying it was "embarassing'. Great leadership DWade. Your coach sat players for being fat. I guess you couldnt lead them away from the buffet.

You are an amazing player Dwayne. I love watching you shoot free throws. What you know about Dirk's leadership skills is non existent. You don't have a clue. Your ability to evaluate leadership skills....well you obviously have an overinflated value of your own. Did you take business classes at Marquette ?

Now we know why Charles won't put you in his 5.

And Im pissed for one more reason. Im going to have to miss our next game against the Heat on Feb 22. A previous engagement. I guess its just a missed opportunity to bring a local business class to the game and try to let them interview you about your leadership skills.

That was a horrible response.

Yeah Mark Cuban is looking like even more of a crybaby doofus than usual right now. Wade got him so maaaad though and Cuban is trying reeeeealy hard in that weblog to say something back to get Wade angry but he's got to realize it ain't happening and he just needs to stay quiet on the sidelines of this one like he's been doing for most of the season.

I don't hate Cuban and occasionally even defend him... but this was just stupid. Let Dirk stick up for himself if that's the best you got.

This is truly beyond pathetic. Much like having your mom step into a playground argument because you're losing...

Poor little Dirky. The big mean Dwayne was so horrible Mark Cuban had to step in?

It just breaks my heart...

Oh, okay. I'm lying. This is hilarious! Talk about "neutering" someone. Way to go, Cuban! I'm sure Dirkie is so proud that you had to step up and "defend" him against the bully...

Wade should just mind his own business right now. I realize they won the championship, but his team right now is below .500 in the East. Wade is criticizing Dirk's leadership skills but Dirk's team has about 20 more wins or something like that(not exactly sure of each team's records right now).

It was kind of retarded that Cuban responded this way(although it was kinda funny). Then again Wade should just shut his mouth. He's more "humble" that way.

Apparently Dirk did respond. Its just not here in this thread. I'm too lazy to look it up. Something like no comment, they won, they were the better team, blah, blah, blah.

I hate Cuban, but I think this is actually a little funny. I think the whole situation is immature, but I did get a chuckle out of reading it.

I think my favorite line was, "Now we know why Charles won't put you in his 5." I love that commercial.

I am happy that in a weird way he kinda stood up for the Kings too. The Kings team who played in that Kings/Lakers series became the poster child for victims of bad officiated games. Granted, when it came down to it, we couldn't hit free throws, so we can only use the bad officiating crutch to a certain degree. But it is nice that one of our rival teams' owner can even see that we were not treated fairly.

I am just hoping that maybe one day in the near future we can be back at the level of being rivals with the likes of the Mavs and so on.

You think Cuban gives a hoot about the Kings? He was only using a common complaint to try and bolster his argument. He knows full well some fans can't get past the "poor officiating" finger pointing and so he references here as though it's relevant, which (either way) it isn't.

Sorry, but poor officiating didn't cost us the WCF title, no matter how many different ways you try and spin it. The Kings had a chance in overtime of game 7 to take care of business and they choked so badly paramedics came rushing from every corner of the state... The Kings choked. Plain and simple. I love this team but to have to continue to listen to people use the "poor officiating" excuse is just too much. The officials didn't miss the free throws. The officials didn't choke. THE KINGS DID - and every single member of that squad will and has said the same thing.

Yeah I agree. I did say that they basically shot themselves in the foot because of the FT's. They had a chance to win it on their own.

The poor officiating still frustrates me. I have a few of those games on tape and we'll watch them at home for fun from time to time and some of the calls make me absolutely sick.

I don't think Cuban really cares about the Kings, but it is good to know that others saw that there was something wrong there...

Either way, I think we're on the same page anyway :p

You're right...

I think this whole Cuban blog thing is pretty ridiculous. And I still think the idea of him calling out Dwayne Wade is just so ... playground.

:p

Looks like Wade was simply responding to Dirk's jab about the Mavericks giving the title away instead of the Heat winning it. That's pretty bush-league, IMHO. But it's par for the course for Nowitzki. I cannot stand to watch him play. His attitude is smug, rude, intolerable, etc. I think Dwayne showed a lot of restraint and Cuban is just an idiot...

Have you ever met Dirk? How do you know he is smug, rude, and intolerable? Why are you making judgements about his character like that?

Regardless of what people think about Wade or Nowitzki, that was just a flat out bad response to Wade.

Cuban - you're not funny, your humor isn't witty, and you did an awful job of answering the question of Dirk's leadership. Wade outscored Dirk in those final four games by something like 40 points. And while I hate the fact that Wade gets absurd free throw calls (and absurd doesn't even come close to describing some of those foul calls), lets not forget that Dirk's flopping routine can rival Vlade's at times.

Wade willed that Heat team to a victory despite Antoine Walker's numerous clunkers, Payton's repeated delusions that he's still an all star guard, and Shaq's failure to dominate scrubs like Dampier and Diop.

Meanwhile, Dirk wasn't the MVP caliber player he should've been and consequently his team choked away a 2 game lead. The refs didn't let the Heat win, Dwyane Wade won them that series and Nowitzki didn't win it for Dallas.

Boo hoo Cuban, my Rockets blew a 2 game lead against the Mavs a couple of years ago and should've won game 3 if it weren't for a phantom non-call against Michael Finley for having his foot out of bounds when he supposedly saved the ball. But we lost that series in the end. We choked a lead like the Mavs choked against the Heat.

I've got no sympathy for Cuban, Nowitzki or the Mavs.

Have I ever met him? No. Have I ever seen him at close range? Yep. More than once. And that's why I said HIS ATTITUDE was smug, rude and intolerable. He might be the nicest guy in the world away from an opponent's basketball court but I have not been impressed with him any of the times I have seen him at Arco.

Fair enough I guess, but I have the same opinion about Wade.

There is one very major problem I have with this. First of all, you are absolutely right. The kings DID choke away game 7 by missing 14 of 30 free throws. There is NO excuse for the way we lost that game.

BUT, the officiating did cost us game 6. Game 6 in a series where we were up 3-2. Game 6 in a series that should have ended in 6 games. If the refs don't blow that game, we don't even play a game 7, and don't even get an opportunity to showcase our fantastic free throw shooting capabilities. So, as much as I hate to beat a dead horse - and this particular horse has taken a cruel beating in the past 4 years - the refs cost us just as much as our free throw shooting.

Back to the topic - I wonder if Cuban knows/cares that he is the laughingstock of this league. NOBODY takes him seriously, and he continues to give everyone reason to point and ridicule.

Also, I am very surprised that Wade would say these things, and am certain they were somehow taken out of context. From what I have seen since his entry into the league, Wade is a humble and respectable player, and this seems out of character for him to say.

Exactly. And considering that our own Kings have heard those kind of coments before from people including a person I don't want to name *cough*Shaq"cough,* it does get maddening.

Maybe Wade shouldn't have said what he said, but guys that say they "gave away" a title, a series or whatever should say what actually happened. They lost, the other team played better, period. To say they "gave it away" belittles the other team's accomplishment and implies they didn't deserve it. Talk about an insult.

My aunt met Dirk when she worked in the U.S. embassy in Germany, she said he was a really nice guy.

And in regards to the Wade vs. Cuban thing: as childish as it is for both sides to be exchanging these little barbs, I'm gonna have to side with Cuban...I forget which game it was, but that one where Wade shot more freethrows then the entire Dallas team combined WAS the worst officiating I had seen since game 6 of the Kings/Lakers series.

Wade's talented, but the guy gets more special treatment from ref's then Kobe, and thats saying something. It gets kind of old to see him go to the line after comitting blatent offensive fouls...Especially when that happens multiple times just about EVERY TIME I watch a Heat game.

And I understand what you're saying. IF game 6 had been the deciding game for the Lakers, I would agree the officiating cost us. But, the Kings fate was still in their own hands because there was a game 7. Once game 6 was over, the Kings walked away and let any thoughts of poor officiating take a back burner. They had to. They had a game 7 to face...

Once game 7 started, it was no longer about poor officiating in game 6 (or game 5 if you're a Laker fan). It was about what happened on the court in game 7. Their fate was in their own hands and they fumbled...

Technically you're both right but I ultimately side with you on this one. There were plenty of opportunities for the Kings to close out game 7 and they couldn't get it done. You deal with the situation you're given and even though the Kings got a lot of bad breaks they also had a chance to sink the series clinching basket with time set to expire and failed to do so. Unfortunately bad referreeing is a part of every sport. Game 6 was terrible but it also wasn't the 72 Olympics.
