The circus came to town Friday night – oh, sorry, those were the New York Knicks – so it was an ideal time for Ron Artest to make his 2007-08 home debut and, with a little nudge from his friends from the old neighborhood tabloids, to suggest that he wouldn't mind making it his last...

...He played his usual muscular defense, once stripped the nearly 300-pound Eddy Curry of a crucial rebound in the final minutes of regulation, then leaned into the Knicks' burly center, causing him to miss an inside shot during the final minutes of the second overtime...

...In other words – and in case anyone had forgotten – he can really play. The inevitable trade rumors aside – and the fact that Artest's ability to opt out of his contract next summer only ensures that the speculation will persist – this should be his best season for a number of reasons, foremost among them his ongoing attempts to rehabilitate his reputation...
