Heh -- all it took was a brutal losing streak and an empty building, but the powers that be saw the light. ;)

This is a good thing though for the two guys who just had to have it done, and a good move to help summon up some old ghosts for fans suffering through darker times.

I've never seen that video, thanks a lot.

One thing I always hated about the Kings is that they never seemed to stick it out with the guys who stuck it out with the Kings. Webber and Vlade gave arguably the most to revive this franchise from the dredges of the NBA cellar, and we let them go away/traded them. They don't seem like "ours." I want some players who are certified Kings.

Vlade is half a King, half a Laker. If he hadn't signed taht 2 year/10 mil contract with the Lakers, I think we would have had a better chance at keeping him as a lifer.

The great franchises have players attached to them, and those players give a culture, a reputation, even in bad times. Ewing came back to work for the Knicks. Mourning is a Heat, plain and simple. We don't really have that.

I guess we can look at Theus as one... but that's not a real good example si it?

Regardless, this is long overdue, and well deserved.

I'll have to disagree. If any recent retired players that played for the Kings could be certified as Kings it would be these two.

At the time of Vlade re-joining the Lakers it came down to the Kings, Lakers or retirement. He consulted his family who indicated that they wanted to go back to the LA lifestyle. He chose to leave. Brad was here to replace him.

I think we have our histories mixed up. If I remember correctly, we offered him 2 years @ 2 mil/yaer, while the Lakers gave him 10 mil over 2 years. Obviously he took the 10 million. I didn't hear anything about his family wanting to relocate.

Now of course WE look to them as certified Kings, but how do they view themselves? THAT was my point. Vlade spent almost all of his career as a Laker/King, but I think he views himself as a Laker, first and foremost. This is evident by him being their intl scout, and nothing for us. As for Webber, I think he continues his ties to the Kings because of his restaurant (he was here last week), but I don't see him being a Kings lifer. That may be just his personality, but when I say a tradition, I mean the way Jerry West/Kareem are still Lakers, Russel is still a Celtic, Hakeem a Rocket, Admiral and Spurs, KJ and Suns, etc. They are still present and representing their respective teams. Who does that for us? Shareef? *slow clap*

This is wonderful news! I can not wait to see 21 and 4 hanging in the rafters!I think they both deserve it! Not only did they help make us the team that we were for many years, They both did so much for Sacramento as a community. I just hope I can get the chance to go to both games. The opportunity to stand up and cheer one more time for both Vlade and of course especially C WEBB would be a honor :D

I think it's long overdue.

It was very unfortunate the way we ended up unloading almost all of that team in ways that they didn't want. In Vlade's case, he had a choice -- take a 60% pay cut or leave & get replaced by Ostertag. CWebb, Peja, Doug and Mike didn't have the choice, and I got the impression that each of them were upset about leaving.* I doubt that any of them would be excited about doing anything for our management/owners now. I'm happy that we can do this to show our appreciation to a couple of those guys. Even if the motivation is mainly ticket sales, it puts a human face on MS&E for a moment.

*This is not meant to say that trading any of them was right or wrong, just that it never seemed like a happy ending. We should have let Peja know before the reporters knew, etc. I wish it had been different.

Um, he was their scout after he retired/quit playing (injury) to fulfill his contract, and he hasn't done anything for them once that expired, IIRC.

Nope.

Vlade has said repeatedly that although he is grateful to the Lakers organization for all they did, his best years and memories are those he spent as a Sacramento King.

I wish Vlade was a coach right now. Hell, bring in Doug for a defensive coach to work with the guys. And Corliss Williamson should have been offered a spot on the staff also. The Kings have quality guys who can offer a lot in the coaching ranks IMO.

Just entered the forum :)
Just wanted to chime in and say hello to anyone who reads. I guess I have been a die hard fan of the Kings when J-Will and CWebb touch the ball together in 98', and of course that is when I got into watching and being interested in the Kings since I was only 12 at the time. I know that there are alot of you that love the Kings before that time, but I guess I was one of those who jump on the bandwagon of the Kings being named, "The Greatest Show on Court," and haven't looked back. Miss those days alot.

Vlade and Chris deserve it. They gave us an identity back in the good ol' days. I'm glad the franchise finally came around to honoring that.
