Vince Carter?

What does everyone here think of Vince Carter as our Starting SG?
He brings what we need at the SG position and is somewhat of a possibility.
Orlando fans aren't attached to him, but they don't dislike him either.

If he doesn't work out, then he is an 18M expiring to add to Dalemberts 12M for a total of 30M in expirings to trade.

Thoughts?

we do not need a prima donna scorer as our SG. Especially not one who would lose a pillow fight to any one of our dance team members.

Eww nah I'll pass on that the dudes destiny is to put up numbers and retire ringless he is the invisible man during clutch time these days.

Dear God no. Vince will never win anything, he just doesn't have the heart. He disappears during the big games or big moments.

where do you guys come up with those ideas ?

The most under-reported subplot of the playoffs: Orlando trades Courtney Lee for Vince Carter and somehow gets worse. Did you see what Vince Carter did in the playoffs this year? No thanks.

besides why in the world would Orlando want Garcia's contract, Brockman, a hustler with no offense (when they have an excellent frontcourt already) and a 2nd rounder for Vince?

Jesus!

Well to be fair of course they effectively traded Courtney Lee & Hedo Turkoglu for Vince Carter & Matt Barnes, so that's a dicier tradeoff.

But yes...Vince is not a winner. He's old. He's expensive. He's soft. Perfect! :p

I wasn't able to watch all their playoff games. But I read from recap of some games that Carter did fairly well during the playoffs. Except of course when they played the very good Celtics when the whole team sucked and was overpowered by the Celtics. They won 8 straight in a row ( 1st and 2nd round ) which I think was awesome. And I read in a lot of those 8 wins, Carter was one of the key players.

Except for the games where obviously he was neutralized by the Celtics, did Carter really sucked during that awesome 8 wins ( 1st and 2nd rounds )?

We haven't really seen what a healthy Garcia and Evans together can do. I would like to see what that back court pairing can do first. If they clicked, Garcia's contract might end up to be a keeper.

The Bobcat series was won primarily by Jameer Nelson and the Hawks series was never a series as the Magic never trailed for a second in any of the games. Surprise Surprise Carter looked great that series....

He's a classic front runner, but when the times get tough he'll have JJ Redick looking like a underrated all star. Redick should be thanking him for his Bulls contract btw.

Basically it's all always been the same story with that guy. He'll put up a ton of points and make it look easy during the regular season and he's also an above average playmaker and rebounder at SG. But when it comes down to it, he doesn't want the ball at the end of close games and when things start to get difficult he disappears. He wasn't just bad against Boston, I basically forgot he was on the team. He's still got All-Star level talent and he'll play up to it more often than not, but he's not a guy you can rely on. When you're planning a deep playoff run you're shooting yourself in the foot if he's supposed to be one of your main contributers. That's why I said they got worse. Brick's right, I forgot how big of a role Hedo played for them the year before. But more than that I distinctly remember Courtney Lee making some pretty big plays for them the year before, especially in that series against Cleveland. And all those hussle play/intangibles/high basketball IQ contributions add up to be a significant factor in the playoffs.

I know it's not fair to completely right off Vince Carter, but he's had that reputation for a long time and he's earned it. I wouldn't be comfortable asking him to be a main guy for us because I know he's going to disappear in a big series sooner or later and that could be all it takes to end your playoff run.
