Rumor is that his agent is trying to avoid getting him picked in the first round. We have the first pick in the second round and I think we should use it on him while he develops in Europe (just signed a 3 year contract). His buyout is only 400k Euros, so he could even come earlier than that.

Just a thought.

If it falls that way, I think it would probably be a good value pick for us unless someone else we really want ends up slipping out of the first round. Second round picks rarely end up with the team long-term anyway, so having a first round talent stashed overseas maturing for a couple of years is relatively low-risk for us and could pay off big. I don't know much about the guy though.

Can someone explain to me what the incentive is for being picked in the second round over late in the first round?

I am not sure on this, but I don't think 2nd round picks have guaranteed contracts. So, instead of getting picked in the late 1st round and having a low starting salary, he wants to be able to negotiate his salary when he comes over in a few years.
