[UTA/NOK] Tyson Chandler is a beast

Now that he's finally figured out how to play to his strengths, he's become a VERY good player. Which is funny when you remember how people were ready to declare him a bust after two years.

Even funnier still is how Chicago traded Elton Brand so that they could build their team around Chandler and Eddy Curry, and it seems that neither of those guys reached their potential until after they left Chicago.

Chandler has had this type of games before, but I am still not at all impressed with his back to the basket game. He was always an excellent rebounder and shot blocker, but his offensive game is limited when he goes 1 on 1. He reminds me of Marcus Camby.

Well, that was the beauty of trying to play Curry and Chandler together: Curry was the back-to-the-basket scorer, and Chandler was the cleanup man.

You don't have to be great with your back to the basket to be a great post player; Stoudemire's back-to-the-basket game isn't all that great, either.

not to mention chandlers basketball IQ is fairly low... although it has improved over the past couple of seasons, his offensive awareness still needs alot of work as sloter mentioned his back to the basket game has shown little improvement over the past seasons... at least it is improving though...

however it is the reason why he can sometimes be inconsistent with his scoring...

however his defensive awareness has improved a fair bit over the past few seasons, an example is the reduction of the silly fouls he used to commit... his improvement in his positioning in the paint to block or alter shots has helped in this area...

one thing you do know you'll get consistently from this guy is blocked shots and rebounding... he is a beast in rebounding!

check the numbers out... there are quite a few 15 plus rebounding performances... damn! could sure use this guy for out rebounding woes...!

Say what you want about him, but Chandler is better and cheaper than Ben Wallace at this point (who's not getting any younger) Chandler's a very good defender who has superb quickness and hops for a guy his size. He can stay with almost every big man and dominates the boards better than most. And he's still really young which gives him plenty of room for improvement.

Who exactly cares about Chandler's offense? He has none. Not the point. Its clear at this point he never will. And yes, Camby is a bit of a comparison, but Marcus has more offense actually. Big Ben, only taller is the closer match. And that's a hell of a useful piece to anchor you inside.

There is of course a colossal "told you so" lurking around out there, but I wil refrain -- everbody knows where they stood on trying to get him last summer. Too late now.

All things considered, I wanted to get Chandler in the summer, and obviously even moreso now. He's become a consistent beast of a big man.

I would of rolled a red carpet out for Brad to go back to Chicago - then and now . Who knows if the bulls would of taken Brad though.

I was posting my Chandler/Duhon for Brad/Hart or other piece deals semi-regularily in the summer.

Except he's been playing consistently well going back to the 2nd half of last season. Let alone for most of this season.

for a guy with no offense, chandler's 10-13 for 20 pts tonight ain't all that bad...

helps to have chris paul as your PG, but still, when was the last time the kings had a player who could catch a pass in the paint and successfully post up? chandler's still plenty young, and alongside chris paul he's gonna develop just fine, offensively. he's got all the defensive tools, and he'll continue to put it together on that end, as well. 19 boards tonight...

[FONT=&quot]I think this issue with Chandler and the Bulls had less to do with who was going to play better in the future, or even in the present... and had much much more to do with the fact that he just wasn't playing well in Chicago, even less well since Skiles, I think. We saw how good Chandler did against Shaq in the playoffs, but his coach just wasn't going to mesh... and with what Ben Wallace offered as a proven commodity, mixed with Skiles' success, Skiles had more leverage at this point.[/FONT]

Sometimes you just have to move. I think he was mature, but still unable to break out of his shell as long as he stayed where he was.

There's a good possibility of that. Sometimes players just aren't the right fit for a certain situation.

I think the problem had more to do with the system they run in Chicago. He's done much better in New Orleans' open court system as opposed to Skiles' slow as molasses offense. He mainly scores on offensive rebounds and dunks which come much more easily in New Orleans. (he averages around 4.5 offensive rebounds a game and around 9 points - do the math)

Also it doesn't hurt to have a guy like Chris Paul running the show.
