Update on Brad :(

Dog On It!

From the Sacramento Bee

When it came to the left foot injury that forced center Brad Miller out of action Saturday night in Milwaukee, no one in Kings land was overly optimistic about the long-term prognosis.

Their instincts were validated Monday when it was announced that Miller will miss at least four weeks. A magnetic resonance imaging exam done Monday revealed a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot.

Miller had averaged six points and seven rebounds in his first three games.

*ouch*:(

There isn't a big (translation: impact big player) we can get w/o trading a major cog.
We'll definitely miss Brad's ability to move the ball.

oh, that is such a bummer. :( Hmm... the back to back injuries of Bibby & Miller aren't exactly how I had hoped to start the season!

Seriously though, Brad is the one person on the entire roster that this team really could not live without. Even an injury to Bibby or Artest might not have sent the house of cards tumbling, but this team just does not have a backup center. I'm willing to be optimistic and see what happens with the smaller quicker lineup, though. In the young season the best lineup actually seemed to be Bibby/Martin/Salmons/Artest/SAR. It's not going to work against every team, but hopefully smallball will work against enough teams to keep the team within fighting distance.

If it doesn't work and this team is really bad a month from now it may be time to start thinking about packing it in, playing the youngsters and going for Oden or Noah -- too soon for that, clearly. But a once in a decade big man like Oden only comes along, well, you know, once in a decade. It's the way franchises are built.

Well at least we get to unleash the three-headed monster of a center that is SAR, Taylor, and Corliss.

Imagine the fear of other teams as they cower in the shadow of the beast!

And maybe Potopenko could join the party!

...
...

Nope, he's seven feet tall...Silly me...

Francis or Marbury:eek:

seriously if we are talking trades we have to trade players that have value

SAR has a ton of value (not KG level), but has value. Decent player, minimum contract.

You can move that easily AND get something in return. Problem is, that it would be easier to do it later in the year as teams start to flesh out.

Corliss ... well, yeah, won't get much there.

Unless we want to move Bibby, Artest or Martin ... we're pretty much stuck seeing what we can get for SAR.

Maybe grab Williams, the last preseason cut? Long way from a starter but maybe he can start contributing 12-15 min and clog up the middle and block some shots.

Hey, where is Yogi Stewart when we need him?

Wow, Kings tallest player now (not including Pot) is 6-9. Guess the're gonna play short for awhile.

This really stinks.

We need to weasel a servicable big man out of another team without giving up the farm. Easier said than done, I know, but this is not good for the home team, folks.

What's Yogi Stewart doing these days? Sign 'em up! :p

Seriously though. What's Vlade up to? Yeah yeah alright.

Things will be getting a bit bumpy coming up folks. Please fasten your seat belts.

Edit: Oh I see CruzDude beat me to the Yogi reference. Nice.

Man, I seriously think we should call Vitaly back out of exile and give him the start just for some size. Maybe only play him 20min, but just give us a sembalnce of a big for some limited minutes against the other teams' starting centers.

Might also be a time to consider calling Justin back up out of the NBDL. Nobody of note on the FA market, so might as well think about somebody who already knows the system/team for a 10 day or two.

vitaly or no vitaly...artest is gonna need to keep up the boardwork and average something like 10 rebounds a game the first month of the season just to keep the kings competitive on the glass...and that might not even do it.

Yup. I just want to see a BIG man out there.

With all the fuss about Justin Williams at the start of the season, I think we should give him shot. I haven't seen him play (except for very limited minutes in the preseason) but if he's taller than 6'7, I'm all for him. Sign him up.

i hate to mention this... but, how about reef or corliss for jerome "trashbag" james? corliss is an expiring contract so they might go for it... and reef would be able to start... i doubt that they will be giving up curry...

Jerome James gets paid way too much to suck

That's my vote.

I guess will see more Corliss at the 3/4. Also, Justin Williams has promise. However, the idea of an undrafted rookie playing more than spot minutes scares me.

I'm not sure I understand the Vitaly theory. People want to entrust the starting center spot to someone who has not played a competitive game in almost a year? It's not like he's much bigger than Mo Taylor or much of a better rebounder. I have to think that the coaching staff would have played him at some point if they thought he could contribute. Now people want him to start?

I feel like this is one of those cases where the unknown seems promising only because we haven't seen for ourselves how crappy it looks.

I'm certainly not suggesting he's a savior, but Vitaly is hardly an unknown after 10 years and nearly 200 starts in the NBA. That's both good and bad given his currrent scrub status. But even slimmed down for Muss he's still a bruiser who will bounce some bodies around in there. Give you a physical presence inside and at least put a few bruises on the on the opposing team as they fly on by. And pretty much too big to be pushed back or backed down by anybody smaller than Shaq.

In theory, yeah. But Vitaly hasn't played meaningful minutes in an NBA game since December 31st, 2005 -- I'd say that makes him an unknown. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him get some minutes to see if he has anything left, but I'm not getting my hopes up or suggesting he could start. As John Hollinger pointed out, Vitaly's rate of blocked shots last year ranked below Luke Ridnour. Give him minutes, but the Kings have better options.

The small lineup can be effective against teams with soft or bad centers, especially if Ron continues to rebound. Vitaly will no doubt be needed against teams like Miami, Houston and Milwaukee, but not every team is going to post that much of a matchup problem.
