Ugh, this song is in my head, and I need to know the name!!!

Gary

All-Star
It's not the Starland Vocal Band "Afternoon Delight". but it is sort of similar. About the same time another band had something with a similar lyric That talked about Sky Rockets, and it was sung by a grizzled older man (or at least his voice was similar). Anyone have a clue what I am talking about? I am thinking something like Sky Rockets in Flight. That's at least what I wrote down while I was at work when I heard the song so it has to be similar in that way.

ugh!!!

You're not talking about Afternoon Delight sung by Will Ferrell in Anchorman are you? The line "sky rockets in flight" definitely comes from "Afternoon Delight" by SVB. Could that be it?

Nah, that's not the one. It's on our automated system playlist so next time I hear it I will write down the lyrics. I thought it might be that song at first, but then the chorus never came. The main singer sounds a bit like bob dylan as well.

Ah, hoopsie...

Don't worry; be happy!!!

Yes.

That song is very, very rude.

I had someone send me a dorky little e-card recently that was set to that song.

As sweet a gesture as it may have been, the song is still in my head several days later.

Anything here look familiar:

  • 1994: In the movie PCU, the song is used as a form of torture.
  • 1995: In episode 125 of The Simpsons, Homer has a tattoo of the Starland Vocal Band
  • 1997: In Good Will Hunting, Matt Damon's character uses it to taunt one of his several therapists
  • 1997: In episode 215 of Murphy Brown, Murphy recalls that she once met Kay outside a concert because they both hated the song
  • 1997: In Boogie Nights, it is used as the background to an early sex scene
  • 1998: On episode 1.2 of the show Sports Night ("The Apology"), Casey's knowledge of the song rendered him unimpressive in Dan's eyes.
  • 2002: In The Rules of Attraction, while Sean Bateman masturbates in his dorm.
  • 2003: In The Simpsons's episode The Fat and the Furriest, Lenny, Carl, and Bart listen and dance to Afternoon Delight, missing Homer's cries for help when he is attacked by a bear.
  • 2004: In Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) explains to his friends what it's like falling in love with Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate); in the process, the foursome sings the song. They also perform a full cover of the song on the film's soundtrack album, and a music video of the same is included as an extra feature on the "Unrated, Uncut, & Uncalled For!" version of the film's DVD release.
  • 2004: The song is played briefly in Starsky & Hutch
  • 2004: In episode 2.06 of Arrested Development (originally aired 19 December 2004), the show's main character, Michael, sings a karaoke version of the song with his niece Maeby, becoming increasingly aware of the song's sexual theme as it continues. In a reversal of that situation, Michael's sister (and Maeby's mother) Linsday would later sing the song with Michael's son, George Michael. [1]
  • 2005: In episode 13 of the television show Entourage, Turtle quotes the song after intercourse with a Hollywood prostitute.

Well Gary if you could give a solid line of lyrics I might be able to help but the only song that comes to minds using the phrase "sky rockets in flight" is the dreaded SVB tune.

I don't know, but I do remember that that song by Elvin Bishop, I think it's called "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" or something like that was played in the movie 'Boogie Nights' the song is on my soundtrack to that movie.
