Ty Lawson

Starter
Ty Lawson is to work out for the kings, but says he'll return to school if he isn't in the top 20 (of this year's draft).

I don't think our two second rounders can get it done. Denver will take Ty #20, and I think we might actually be going after Washington's #18.

Summer
1. Go big #12 I hope not Joe Alexander (whom we're looking at soon as well)
2. Trade to move up to #18 draft
3. Sign Udrih

What we will do
1. Go big #12 Love, Alexander, or softest player available
2. Go small #18 Ty

What we should do
1. Go small #12 Augustin, Westbrook
2. Go big #18 Speights, Robin Lopez (Varejao equivalent)

Tywon's actually all over the draft board; it's hard to get an accurate read on him in a draft as deep as this one, as scouts initially held the perception that he needed more seasoning, particularly in his half-court play, by returning next year. But there's no denying his full court speed, passing ability, and overall talent, and he just had a very good predraft camp, so I think he may have cemented himself as a late 1st rounder, unless as you mentioned someone really likes him (Denver at #20 perhaps). He's anywhere from the upper late 1st round to the early 2nd round at this point, although it seems to be more leaning to the 1st by the day.

This isn't the first time Petrie seems to be looking at talent outside of our range (12, 40s): because we have looked at Cal's Ryan Anderson, and will probably next look at the other Lopez (twin).

Assuming DJ or Westbrook are unavailable, I would be Ok if they picked the best PF on the board and traded our seconds or "cash considerations" for Lawson (it is so easy to tell others to spend more of their money!!!)

Stayed up till 3 in the morning watching the pre-draft camp games on ESPN-U channel. Lawson was by far the most impressive pt guard there. In both games the teams seemed out of synche in the first half. Understandable, since they had never played together before. The one exception was Lawson's team. He had them under control from the beginning. He played against Lester Hudson, who was a disapointment to me. Lawson shut Hudson down defensively and Hudson couldn't stop Lawson at the other end. Lawson still has to work on his outside shot, but other than that, he matches up well with other pt's in the draft.
Is he worth a first round pick? Yes, but not at number 12, and he says he won't stay in the draft unless he's promised a 1st round pick.
A player to watch is Mike Taylor. He's sort of a combo guard that I never heard of, but he played well.
Disappointments were Ellington, and DeVon Jefferson. Neither played very well and Jefferson is reported to be badly out of shape. Not very smart.
Hendrix played OK, but nothin special. Dorsey and DeVon Hardin played pretty good. Hardin still has limited offense, and hasn't learned what his limits are yet. Another player that impressed is James Gist. Didn't show much of an outside shot, but was always around the basket with a lot of hustle.

Trent Plaisted is an interesting guy. He has crazy athleticism for a guy 6'11''. I didn't realize how athletic he was until last night. Unfortunally he didn't accomplish much in the limited minutes he played, but he has two day left. I think he can play in the NBA. Another guy that impressed with his play and his passing ability was Pat Calathes. I'll be interested to see how he plays today.
My final note is Gary Forbes. He managed to stand out when everyone else out there looked they were playing sandlot ball. He looked under control at all times. Someone to keep an eye on..

I highly doubt he goes top 20. He should just go back to school.

If he does go back to school, he going to be a lottery pick next year. If we can pick up an extra pick in the 18-20 range, with whoever we get at 12, would make our draft very good!!! And hopfully throw in Dorsey with one of our seconds:D!

I have a friend that writes for cal, he was told by Ryan Andersons trainer that petrie told him there is 15 people higher on his list the Ryan. Denver is rumored to be interested in Ryan at the 20th spot. which Ryan would stay if he gets a promise.

I am a fan of Ty.....and Chalmers.... would love either in a kings "NEW" jersey next year.

I doubt Ty Lawson will be drafted in the top 20. Too many better players above him, and about the 20th pick is when teams start drafting best available and there are a lot of players better than Lawson. There is a big dropoff from the top 4 PG (Rose, Bayless, Westbrook, Augustin) to the next tier (Lawson, Chalmers). No chance Love will be available at #12. Your "what we should do" is a good idea though. I like Speights.

Link? I liked his game in college and supposedly he's tearing it up in Orlando.

edit: My bad I saw you have a link up there after I read the whole topic. Awesome.

I really like Lawson a lot, last year a lot of people had him ranked top 10 but this year when he had the ankle problems that hurt his stock a lot and made him a bit more unimpressive. Still he's a good player though, definitely underrated and I'd love to see if we can get him. Supposedly Detroit's looking to deal their 29th pick for 2 2nd rounders. Maybe a deal with them? Or we could trade a guy like Salmons to get back into the higher part of the 1st round.

Interesting Gary, ESPN's Ford has Love going around number 14. I doubt he would get past the Kings.

Reason I don't see him getting to the Kings is because you have teams like Charlotte, Minnesota, Clippers, Indiana, New Jersey all needing bigs, and there aren't enough lottery bigs to go around.

Well this is good and bad news. The good is that he is working out for the Kings so obviously Petrie has some interest, the bad news is that he probably will be going back to school since I seriously doubt he will go in the top 20.

I have been a huge fan of Ty Lawson for awhile and was hoping that the Kings might get lucky with one of their second round picks, but I guess that won't matter unless they can trade up.

I consider Lawson the 4th best PG in the draft behind Rose, Bayless, and Westbrook and he and Westbrook are close IMO. Other than his height his game is tailor made for the current NBA landscape with his quickness, ball handling skills, and finding the open man off of the drive. His shot while not great yet is very much improving and I believe he will become a good shooter to complement his driving skills.

He played very well in the one game I saw him in at Orlando. He was susposed to play yesterday but suddenly came down with a mysterious injury. Some beleive that he got a promise from someone to be picked in the first round. Pure speculation on the part of the announcers there. He only took a couple of outsides shots that I can remember, but ran the pt very well and completely under control.
