Two trades to totally rebuild

with the season quickly wasting away... and coach natt not using the young guys as much as he should.... petrie has to move the veterans now and get some young blood in quickly... here are two trade that would set the rebuild in full effect....

Brad Miller and second round pick to Chicago for Drew Gooden and Tyrus Thomas....

why the kings do it? they move Miller for a expiring contract (Gooden) and a young athletic player (Thomas).....

why the bulls do it?.... they get a legitamite center in miller to replace their current sorry center (Arron Grey).... they get a player (Miller) signed beyond this year, since they would have lost gooden for nothing in the summer anyways.... and Tyrus Thomas has been in the coaches dog house... chicago can move noah into starting power forward slot.... giving them a ballanced starting line up of:

PF Joakim Noah
SF Luol Deng
C Brad Miller
SG Ben Gordon
PG Derrick Rose

Then Trade John Salmons to Portland for Jerryd Bayless and Channing Frye...

why the kings do it? they get a young point guard they can groom to replace beno in 1-2 years and a castaway bigman with some skills (Frye)... Frye would become our backup center....

why portland does it? They have been looking for a small forward to take some of the scoring pressure off of brandon roy.... their current starting SF (Batumn) is clearly not ready to play big minutes....salmons is a reasonably priced well rounded player.... he avg 20ppg and is an above average defender.... while, bayless has become public with his unhappiness with his role in portland..... and channing frye is also out of the coaches rotations, replace by ike diogu??? sergio rodriguez seems to be coach mcmillian favorite to be the future starting point guard in portland.... portland starting lineup:

PF Lamarcus Aldridge
SF John Salmons
C Greg Oden
SG Brandon Roy
PG Steve Blake/ Sergio Rodriguez

The new look kings for next season....

PF Jason Thompson/ Tyrus Thomas
SF Donte Green/ Francisco Garcia
C Spencer Hawes / Channing Frye
SG Kevin Martin/ Francisco Garcia
PG Jerryd Bayless/ Beno Udrih / Bobby Brown

GO KINGS!!!

I love both of these trades, but only the first one is realistic. Everyone should know by now that I'm a huge Jerryd Bayless fan, but I think it'll take more than that to pry him from Portland. Kevin Pritchard is not Kevin McHale

This is nice if we're willing to wait for some 2-3 more years to get some good results. IMO, fans are just saying they can wait, but in reality they cannot. It would be too long to wait and see the undersized-for-center and skinny Channing Frye turning out to be ala-Marcus Camby, Tyrus Thomas not becoming another headache to the team, and Jerryd Bayless not becoming the "me-score-first" savior point guard. And there is just no guarantee what they may become.

I like the trade, but I'd rather that the Kings trade for established/developed players ( like Wallace, Odom, and/or Boozer ) who can actually contribute now.

If this is the only desperate way to improve this team, then I'll go for this kind of trade.

In the short-term Portland would definitely get an upgrade at the 3 spot by getting Salmons.
So even though I would rather have a pass-first point guard, I would trade Salmons for Bayless and Frye in a heartbeat. Depending on our draft-spot we could still pick up the best point-guard in the draft (Rubio, Jennings, ect.) and then let them fight it out next season, as I'm ready to have Beno moved into a back-up role for next season at this point. (Especially after seeing what an elite PG (CP3) can do for you.)
On paper it looks like a great move for both teams, but I somehow doubt that Portland would do that trade. In listening to the Portland announcers the other day against the Kings they indicated that they are really high on Bayless, but if Petrie could convince them that Salmons could help stabilize their roster and give them a chance 2-3 years down the line Kudos to him.

As far as the Miller trade goes, I really do like the idea of moving Miller just to ensure that JT & Hawes get the starting nod and 30+ minutes a night. Though, in this trade we would end up with our 3rd big as the back-up in Thomas and flexibility with Gooden off the books at the end of the year. I'd rather trade Miller for Wallace straight-up to get our starting 3, as I think we'd be a better team with Wallace at the 3 backed up by Donte, rather than Donte starting at the three and Tyrus backing up JT and Spencer.

So, I would be willing to throw Portland our 2nd round pick (Since Petrie can't seem to do anything with them), or maybe even consider Houston's first, to secure Bayless. (I doubt we'd be able to get anyone as good as Bayless with the Houston pick anyway) And I'd still rather trade Miller for Wallace to secure our 3 spot, instead of going with Gooden and Thomas.

Then Trade John Salmons to Portland for Jerryd Bayless and Channing Frye...

I’d do that trade in a second. I’d think Portland would want more than John for Jerryd (maybe add on our second rounder), but I love having the guy here and if Geoff can make that happen, oh man..hell yeah. lol :o

I am a big Bayless fan. I don't think there is anyway that they trade Bayless for Salmons IMO. Doesn't matter if the kings throw in a 2nd rounder just don't see it happening. I think the Blazers will deal Outlaw by the deadline but I don't see Bayless going.

how about John Salmons and a 1st rounder (from Houston, which will be in the #23-30 range) for Jerryd Bayless and Channing Frye and Portland's second rounder... we know how much kevin pritchard loves first round drafts pics...

imo travis outlaw has very little trade value to bring back any significant player to help portland immediatley.... bayless does have trade value now to bring in a player to help portland right away....

I just don't see them taking on Salmons let alone any SF/SG unless Outlaw is part of the deal. If they did their left with Batum (who currently starts) , Outlaw (who gets the majority of the 4th qtr minutes) , Salmons, Martell Webster, plus Rudy and Roy. The Blazers are very high on Bayless and with Blakes contract coming up they see Bayless are a key piece. I think it would take a lot to pry him away IMO. Thats not too mention them giving up Channing Frye as well who does play valuable minutes for them.

Who do the Kings waive? They can't have 16 players.

Here's something from hoopsworld about Jerryd - could be untrue.

Bayless Unhappy?: There were reports on ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning yesterday suggesting that Blazers' rookie Jerryd Bayless was unhappy with his role in Portland and was pushing for a change to be made – either with playing time or a trade. While clearly no competitor likes to sit, especially not one as fiery as Jerryd Bayless, Blazers sources called the rift "totally unfounded at any level." Acknowledge that Jerryd is biting at the bit to have a role on this Blazer team, but but also know he is the first one to applaud the play of Steve Blake and acknowledge the emergence of Sergio Rodriguez as the bonafide backup. There is little doubt the Blazers will have to do something in the near future to create a place for Jerryd, but the idea that he wants out of Portland does not seem to hold much water. Jerryd has logged token garbage time minutes in three of the last nine Blazers games.

I dont agree with the proposal, I do agree with aquiring Bayless. I could do without Tyrus thomas and drew gooden. Both Tyrus and Drew are redundant along the lines of Thompson. Drew Gooden i would accept at a reduced salary, something close to Shelden's contract.

Shelden Williams and Quincy Douby and a 2nd round pick for Gooden+scrub and their 2nd round pick.
