Training Camp !!!

doesnt it start in like 2 weeks?????? I am excited for this year, why you ask?

1. reggie
2. hawes,Jwill, douby
3. cisco, kmart and moore
4. slim B52 bomber

a Hawes/jwill combo is NICE if you ask me.

I will just enjoy the growth of the rookies. I think hawes cisco, douby and jwill, is a very nice starting point. I have been down alittle on brad and bibby, artest little bit too. I do think they are still good players. and I do think artest will stay this year and opt out next. bibby will get traded at the trade deadline.

I hope shakur and watkins make it.

Well, well. A rookie is listening to an old dog!! Couldn't agree more.

I think there will be suprises this year unlike the last 3 or 4. Shakur could be the biggest of all. We know about Spencer, big JWill and a slim-quick Brad. So lets see that that means. And Watkins could suprise as well providing us a 4 who acts like a 4.

Do we know about the slim-quick B-52, though? I'll be as happy as anyone if this proves to be the case, but so far I'm not that optimistic about it.

On the other hand, the frontcourt combo of 30/31 is what makes me hyped up for the upcoming season. These two young men have years and years in front of them, working together and utilizing each other's strengths. I think they have a lot of potential to become something majorly cool.

I hope Williams can establish himself as a solid defensive-minded center for us, because we sure as hell need that...what we do NOT need is another softee down low that just passes and shoots and gets muscled around by everyone 5 pounds bigger than them.

Yep... we can't have a young Brad + CWebb again, but we can have something like a young Brad + Keon, which sounds much less bad than the old Brad + KT which we've been playing.

if the first preseason game is Oct 9, how can training camp start in oct???? I thought rookie/partials start earlier then vets?????

NBA teams always start their training camps the first week in October. The only way they start early is if they are one the teams selected to go to another country like China to play exhibition games. The camp usually lasts about a week and then the first preseason game begins.

Like in summer league, the first couple of pre-season games are virtual throw-aways, this year in particular with new coach and 6-7 new players and a couple more invites as well. Thats why we take in the Vegas pre-season, this year the last one before regular season. Final cuts will happen based on the last 2 games plus some cuts (invitees usually) will get wiped out before that.

I'm equally as high on Shakur as you are. I know that I'm a more biased evaluator because I love athletic players with physical capabilities rather than more skilled, fundamentally sound players, so I'm willing to give Shakur the benefit of the doubt for this one. He is still a bit of this enigma at this point, not having quite figured it out to put his game together (turnovers, passivity and such) but he shows strong flashes of passing ability and the physical capabilities (height, length, athleticism) to play nice defense. I actually don't think he's starter level, especially with his shaky jumpshooting ability and questionable range combined with his passivity, and it's questionable whether that can actually change, but he can become a solid role player. Shakur is clearly more all-around but certainly more passive than our very aggressive former King Ronnie Price.

As for Watkins, he played center much of his college career. Now, I don't know he fared at summer league, but I'd figure it would be quite hard for him to make the transition to PF, given his lack of range and scoring ability, despite his athleticism and mobility. I actually saw him as sort of a poor version of our Justin Williams, considering that he actually has concentration lapses on the court and fairly poor hands. Not sure if he'd make the cut by the end of training camp, considering all the bigs we have.

I guess we'll see if those e-mails did any good, and they unveil the black jerseys during one of the pre-season games. :D

I'd be okay with black on occasion, but I still like PURPLE better. Purple passion, purple power, purple whatever. Black as in ???

THE HISTORY OF ROYAL PURPLE

Purple is often considered the color of royalty and prestige. This correspondence dates back thousands of years, as purple dye was mentioned in texts as early as 1600 B.C. Hercules, the most divine hero in Greek mythology, is credited with the discovery of purple dye. Legend says that along the Levantine coast, his dog would often eat snails and mollusks, which would in turn dye his dog’s mouth a purple hue. From there it was discovered that a dye could be made of crushed mollusks, but because of it’s incredible expense (more valuable than gold), only the highest classes could afford these purple dyes. Hercules was said to have given King Phoenix a purple-dyed robe and decreed purple as the color of Phoenician royalty. This original purple dye, as created by mollusk shells, was dubbed “Tyrian purple” after the place of its discovery—Tyre, in current-day Lebanon. Other civilizations followed suit, including Rome, Egypt, and Persia, although purple dyes were made from other sources including fish and insects. With the fall of the Roman civilization came a decline in the use of Tyrian purple. Instead more bluish shades were favored, as Tyrian purple dyes were too expensive to produce, and blue was the historic shade of European aristocracy. Eventually more bluish shades of purple were introduced, as they were cheaper to produce. Royal purple as we know it today is more bluish than Tyrian purple, as worn by kings in medieval Europe and throughout modern history.

Black as in awesome. :D

How about the black-and-purple. With the checkered sides. Oh yeah.

Alright, enough nostalgia. I hope I'll be able to catch some of the Kings' preseason games. Would like to see the kids get some minutes.

If they do opt for the black ALTERNATE jerseys it won't happen until next year. We have one final year of the gold lamé left, I think.

Unless I'm mistaken (and I don't think I am on this) jersey designs are submitted for approval at least a year before they're scheduled to come out.

Not to take this jersey thing too far in this thread... oh, what the heck it's 1:45 am. Am I correct the Kings have their white home, purple road, gold lame road/home and even on occasion powder blue road (or is it road/home?). That makes four different marketing option$ for Maloof Sports & Entertainment - lovely!

I think they only have three they use at any one time. I don't recall them wearing the baby blue since they've had the gold lamé. To the best of my knowledge, their current uniforms are white (home), purple (road) and gold (alternate which can be worn at home and/or on the road).

EDIT: A quick check of the Kings team store shows jerseys available in purple, white and gold...
