Trade: Christie for Mobley (MERGED)

I am so saddened by this, I just happened to turn on NBA TV and see "Sacramento trades" and didn't even get past Doug Christie's name... we will miss Doug and all the (in)tangibles he brought to the team.

I wonder how the other guys (on the team) feel about this trade. :(

Oh well, GO KINGS.

That is simply untrue. I cannot imagine the Arco crowd EVER booing DC, but we'll know on March 15.

I WILL be at that game, one way or the other, just to say a fond goodbye to Doug.

VF, I think he is talking about booing Mobley (instead of welcoming him) because fans are upset at losing Doug.

Great trade. Now we have someone besides Bibby who WILL take big shots and make them. Mobley is a decent defensive player and anyone who has watched Doug this year knows he is nowhere near where he used to be.

Don't have a clue about Bradley but he is a PF.

I'm sad too. I can't even cry right now because I'm shocked...I'm pretty sure I'll be crying when the time is right. :( This trade totally blind sided me...I didn't really expect it.

GONNA MISS YOU DOUG!!!!!!!! YOUR A GREAT PLAYER AND LEADER!!

The positives of the trade;

We got younger, again more three point range, Try guarding Mobley, Bibby and Peja on the arc, not gonna happen. Less salary for us.

I like the trade overall, Michael Bradley has shown nice rebounding too also (17th pick overall).
I'm going to really miss Doug, but just remember all the great memories from him. He had a GREAT run with us that we will all remember!!
NOW BRING ON THE MOBLEY!!!!

I highly doubt they will boo Mobley. He hasn't done or said anything to Sacramento in his career, has he?

No, he hasn't, as far as I know. Mobley is a good player and will be welcomed by the classy Kings fans. He is not responsible for the trade. Yes, Doug will be GREATLY missed, but we can still welcome Mobley and Bradley as members of the Sacramento Kings.

I am actually a tad excited to see what is gonna happen.

Very sad to see DC go but as I said before WOW.

No more not guarding the 2 guard and double'n up someone else. They do that and CM will drain a 3 on them.

This makes us much more dangerous offensively and team defense not sure it will be a big difference. For sure we won't have that lock down defensive player, but he does play defense.

I just realized that.

Okay, I will revise my comments.

I cannot imagine Kings fans booing a new player to the team, any more than I could imagine the other scenario.

Why would they boo Mobley? I don't see the trade as improving the Kings any, but that's my gut reaction to something that literally had me in tears. When Cuttino Mobley steps on the court for the first time in a Kings uniform, he will be a SACRAMENTO KING. To even suggest that he might be booed is beyond my ability to comprehend.

...sigh...

I sure hope his defense is better than his stats would suggest. We lose in rebounds, we lose BIG in assists, we lose in steals and we lose at the FT line. And those are based on comparisons of this year's stats.

Don't have a clue about Bradley but he is a PF.
I have a feeling he was tossed in so the numbers would work...

And may I add everyone including myself was a tad ticked when Petrie picked Peja in the draft. I still remember exactly were I was at when that happened.

We need to give Mobley a chance and Petrie a chance. This may be the worst move ever but I think it's gonna work out.

Agreed. How many times have we said that it isn't about the name on the back of the jersey, but the name on the front?

GO KINGS...yep, including Mobley and Bradley!!

Mobley is a better defender then Peja and Bibby, people underestimate him, he gets right up in peopels faces. AND HE CAN LIGHT IT UP WHEN HE GETS HOT.. IM EXCITED!!!! but sad...

I'm happy with the trade. I think the fans are very attatched to the players, and ANY player from our core being trade is going to make fans upset. That's why the Kings have the best fans in the league... They ALWAYS respect the players, even when they are gone. It's a great trade. The Kings needed a change, and more offense with Jackson out... Mobley may even play better D than Doug... He was living off pure reputation this season.

I think it's a bit harsh to say that Doug was "living off pure reputation," but I do think it's fair to say that calling him a "defensive stopper" was a bit of a stretch. What DC did was give attention to and effort on defense, which is something many of the Kings don't do. As for DC's actual results on defense, a bit of a mixed bag.

I really appreciated Doug's game and will miss him. Goodness knows the Kings will not be the same without him. But can they be better? It's possible.

Meaning no disrespect to Doug and what he brought to the party, the Kings played 4 on 5 on offense a lot of the time. Having a 2 guard who's more of an offense threat will open things up even more.

Look, the Kings aren't going to shut people down with their current personnel; they're not the Spurs or Pistons. That's not their style. C-Webb doesn't move well enough to match up with a lot of 4s, Mike doesn't stop penetration and Brad's not a shotblocker. So their best chance most nights is simply to outscore the other team, a la Seattle and Phoenix. Acquiring a guy who can bust loose for the occasional 25 points from the 2 guard spot may make them a more consistently formidable team.

Beyond that, whether we as Kings fans want to admit it or not, Petrie had to do something to ensure the continuity of this team as a contender with C-Webb, Jackson and DC on the wrong side of 30. The ability to trade DC for a proven shooting guard in his prime is pretty impressive, if not a bit sad for all us DC fans.

it's gonna be so weird without doug out there :(

i hope this trade works, but wow.. i am so gonna miss doug!!!! i'm just so sad right now..

i dont know what to say about the trade...
im gonna miss doug

Is it true that CM is going to be a free agent next year?

Wow...I got to my car after work and started it up, the radio came on and Grant was talking about DC being traded. Talk about being blindsided. Doug is one of those players I always liked not for his skills on the court as much as his attitude and approach to the game.

Having said that, I think the addition of Mobley will end up being a good one. I'd be willing to say as far as on court play and not counting the attitude of Doug, that the slight loss of defense is worth the offensive tradeoff.

How many times does the opposing teams OG cheat off of Doug because he doesn't score very much? That won't happen with Mobley. That means the guy who would cheat off Doug to help on Peja or Bibby will be guarding Mobley and that should mean more points and/or assists for both Bibby and Peja.

I hate to see Doug go, but I think a few weeks down the road a lot of people will be happy with what they're seeing from the Kings.

I just got news of this whole thing while listening to the radio in the car. I'm absolutely speechless. I would never have seen this coming.

Guess I'll just take a moment of silence and assume someone has a plan I just can't seem to wrap my pea-brain around. I have no doubt I'll be cheering Mobley on with the best of them... but right now I just need to sit and sulk for a spell. :(

Good Luck - DC !!!

I like the trade .... more athleticism, more offense, acceptable defense.

Bottom-line ... we we're never sure which DC would show-up on the court. With Mobley ... you know what you're gonna get.

I like DC ... he was a true baller and gave you 100% everytime out there. But his skills were diminishing ...

We'll miss ya Doug ... good luck in Orlando ... say hello to Hedo !!!

Oh my God......

Orlando sends Mobley, Bradley to the Kings
Magic Acquire Doug Christie from Sacramento

Jan. 10, Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic have acquired guard Doug Christie from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Michael Bradley, General Manager John Weisbrod announced today.

Christie (6’6”, 205, 5/9/70) has played and started in 31 games this season for Sacramento, averaging 7.3 ppg., 4.9 apg., 4.0 rpg. and 1.39 stlpg. in 32.1 minpg. He has led (or tied) the Kings in assists nine times, scored in double figures in 10 outings and has at least one steal in 21 games (13 with two-or-more). Christie currently ranks among NBA leaders in assists (T-29th), steals (T-29th) and free throw percentage (10th, .893, 50-of-56).

“We felt that Doug (Christie) was a perfect fit for the chemistry of our team right now,” said Weisbrod. “He’s a tremendous passer and defender, he’s accustomed to playing in an up-tempo offense and he brings valuable playoff experience. Cuttino (Mobley) is a very difficult piece to give up – one of my favorite people – but we needed to use our depth at shooting guard to fill the areas in which we’re deficient.”

Christie has been named to the NBA All-Defensive First or Second Team for four consecutive seasons (First Team in 2002-03; Second Team in 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2003-04). He has ranked among the NBA’s top five in steals in seven of the last eight seasons and is the only player to rank in the top five in each of the past four campaigns. Entering this season, Christie ranked 17th on the league’s all-time steals average leaders.

Originally selected by Seattle in the first round (17th overall) of the 1992 NBA Draft, Christie has played in 792 career games with the L.A. Lakers, New York, Toronto and Sacramento, averaging 11.5 ppg., 4.2 rpg., 3.7 apg. and 1.90 stlpg. in 31.9 minpg. He has also appeared in 58 career playoff outings, averaging 9.5 ppg., 4.9 rpg., 3.8 apg. and 1.60 stlpg. in 32.7 minpg.

Mobley played in 23 games (21 starts) for the Magic this season, averaging 16.0 ppg., 2.7 rpg., 1.8 apg. and 1.00 stlpg. in 31.6 minpg. He led the Magic and ranks fourth in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (.464, 58-of-125). Mobley was acquired from Houston as part of a seven-player trade on June 29, 2004.

Bradley has appeared in eight games with Orlando, averaging 0.8 ppg. and 1.8 rpg. in 6.9 minpg. He has been on the Injured List and missed 17 games this season (Nov. 12-Dec. 6; Jan. 1-8) due to a strained right hamstring.

Wonder how the fans will react at the game tommorow?

Shocked silence? Tentative cheers? Full-out welcome cheer?

I hope the fans don't let their love for Christie affect the player-fan relationship between Mobley/us.

I think he'll be nicley welcomed, though.

He won't be suited up until Thursday at the earliest.

I am getting more and more pumped up. Think of the matchup problems we are gonna give other teams. No more leaving that 2g spot open on the 3 to double up on Peja or Webb. They do that and he will kill them.

Also the assist, rebound stats I don't buy. Look at all the players that have come here all those numbers increased under the Sac system. As did DC's when he came here.

Steals. Well not career avgs but this year CM is .4 less then Doug. He turns the ball over less (but I expect that to increase). Numbers are pretty close accept for points. Now we will force other teams to guard all 5 starters.

Team defense won't lack much. Not like DC kept Kobe from dropping 31 on us.

I hope the crowd welcomes CM. I will be a tad upset if they don't

I don't know. I like the idea of having 5 scoreers on the floor. I do like the idea of going more athletic. I just didn't think it would happen now. I figured they would wait till Webbs contract was up then rebuild. But, I guess they want to start it earlier, so it's not one huge transition.
