Here's the thing -- he is 16ppg here -- TOPS, unless we squelch the kids for him -- and was not the straw that stirred in San Antonio on either end of the court (Manu on one end, Duncan on the other). Guys who need shots to be effective, no matter what position they play, are just inherently going to cause issues for us now. There is a thought here. But if in 2 years Reke, Thornton and Cousins are all 20ppg guys, then Parker has no room to be Tony Parker, but he's still costing you like Tony Parker, and you likely had to lose a guy who could step back and just be a roleplayer in Beno in order to bring Parker into town.
The idea of bringing in a big name impact vet next year is great. But when you are talking about brining in said vet to a backcourt that already si going to struggle to find enough shots to go around, and said vet would seem to be particularly ill suited to play alongside your best player having the same general game (to the rim, not a great shooter), and needing the ball...
Its a tough one for sure. I do like the fact that he has 3 more guarenteed years .. so he will be up at the same time as Demarcus. Shots could absolutely be a problem though .. he took 13.7 Shots Per Game last year .. one more than Cousins, and fewer than Thornton and Evans. While shots may be a problem, I dont think thats terrible either. I mean, Marcus Thornton took 17.5 shots a game last year which may be too much. Beno took around 10 .. Like I said before, I think its doable.
I also just feel like the price is pretty low. #7 in a pretty weak draft for a 29 year old all star .. I dont know. It would be hard for me to pass this trade up at that price. Beno would probly have to be moved, which is a shame because I really like him.
I think he would help out Demarcus alot. Working with Duncan his entire career, he obviously knows how to get the ball into the post ( something we are remarkably bad at ) and maybe he'll force Cousins to post up more often .. I saw way to much of Cousins on the perimeter during the second half of last season. I want him going to work in the post as much as possible.
I also think the addition of Parker would dramatically increase our chances of keeping Dalembert. If Dally has reservations about signing with us because he wants to play for a winner .. well, if we show him we are willing to make this kind of move, AND we can probly pay him the most money, you have to think he would go for that.
He would create some kind of unrest between the guards, no doubt about it. It could be worth it though. I think he would make the team better in a lot of ways. He'd be better for the bigs, he'd be better for image of the team (That we are serious, we are ready to make a playoff push).
Do the pro's outway the con's? I'm not sure yet. I keep coming back to that draft pick though .. Its not like we are giving up a lot.
