Tonight's Game Thread...

For my 300th post, and since it has worked in the past:

All I want for my 300th post is a Monarchs win! Please!

We've never been to the finals. ::cries:: I have never in my young life seen a championship won by a team that I follow-sans the Rivercats. I'm beginning to think they--who ever "they" are--are against me!

::regains composure::

Ok, so what if this was Seattle's best punch? What if this is all they got? The M's not playing to their potential won the first game and had a chance to steal this one.

I dunno....they've been pretty consistent with this left jab combination this year, but on the upside, the M's (sans that game on 7/3) has had an answer to it but until Friday never could knock them out. But on the flip side, we've withstood the monster game from Lauren Jackson on Friday, which we couldn't do the 3rd, We've withstood their offensive onslaught raining down on us early (which we really can't counter) over two games and still have come back. I really think the difference in this game today was that we were crappy offensively for a VERY long time, we NEVER took full advantage of the turnovers Seattle gave us, our bench did not do its job in the first half and let the bigs get their rest, Tangela never got going offensively. Ticha looked a little bit like she was going to get out of her doldrums and start chipping in some points. I don't think we win on Friday with Kara Lawson shooting as poorly as she did tonight. Carbon copy of last Sunday.

OK....so is anyone up for meeting somewhere to watch game 3??? I don't have cable, and am willing to travel to meet up with like-minded Monarchs psyco fans....Also, there's anew sports bar in Elk Grove we might be able to get some tables at. Let me know what you think, and I'll find out from them about reserving some space....

Okay this might sound crazy but...

1st game: Get outplayed in the 1st half, come back with a vengence in the 2nd = Monarchs win.

2nd game: Get outplayed in the 1st half, step it somewha tin the 2nd half = Monarchs lose (could've come back, but didn't)

Here's a suggestion for the 3rd game: PLAY 40 MINUTES OF MONARCHS BASKETBALL!!!! Please, please, please, don't dig yourselves into a hole and be forced to fight for your lives. Come out with some fire and that intensity that got you this far. We believe in you ladies, now you just have to believe that you can do this!! As one of those banners in Key Arena says, BRING IT!

What I also think is key on Tuesday, is if Seattle jumps out early again, which they really should or else I would be worried if I'm a Seattle fan, is they have got to keep them within arms distance. When they go crazy like that in the beginning of the game, the M's can't let them drop them down more than 10-12 points, they've got to keep it there and it certainly can't balloon up to 18-30 like we've seen them do this season. The M's get jumped like that again and they are back peddling against the ropes all game trying to get it together. Seattle has not extended their onslaught over an entire half against us yet. That's why the M's need to take it early, but keep it measured and then use their depth to take it to them for the next 35 minutes (or more if necessary). And they need to FREAKING execute late and close.

What I do hope we have gotten out of the way is the dumbly officiated game.

I'd be surprised if the M's don't put something together. Late notice as if may be...

Personally, I thought it was a bad omen when Jackson went to the bench for about three minutes with her fourth foul, and we actually lost a point. Coach Whiz doesn't make many tactical mistakes, but leaving the starters on the bench and not capitalizing on Jackson's absense was a big one, if you ask me.

ITA! I'll take more + out of this game than anything else. No one was on today for Sacramento, yet they still had a chance to win, they still cut down that Storm lead and made them sweat. Tuesday will be fun.
Here here!! Im encouraged that we played as bad as we did and we had a chance late.:D

Is it Tuesday yet?:p

Man, as a sports fan, I've always felt that this is the worst feeling ever; the waiting between a loss and your next game... That's why, as a Kings fan, the offseason always sucks so much; the wait between that final loss and the next game is interminable.

Is Tuesday ever gonna get here?

I could go either way on the bench playing while Jackson sat, but I'm leaning more towards it not being that much of a tactical error at the moment, this may change 72 hours from now. He had to squeeze some minutes out of his bench and take as many of his bigs off the floor as he could. In the first half he did not get optimal minutes out of Maiga in particular and the bench in general. You may as well sit them while Jackson has to sit, if for no other reason so they could be as "fresh" as she would be coming back. As long as this bench doesn't score (that is more cause for concern than anything) we probably made out as best as we were going to given the circumstances. Only losing a point in that stretch was great as things were going last night - if we had lost by a point then my perspective might be a little different. If the M's didn't make a push at the end of the game I might have a different perspective.

I'd rather him have done what he did (I think), than for him to have pulled a Sonny Allen circa 2000 round 1 gm 1 and all of a sudden try to play his starters 20 minutes without subbing for the first time EVER, and then not sub when it became painfully obvious to anyone and everyone that the starters were starting to drop off in productivity, SHARPLY and Houston was able to close the deficit.
