To Tank or not to Tank...what would you want?

Tank or not?

I'm glad you posted this question because it shows that you don't understand what a number of us are trying to say...

It's NOT about asking the players to intentionally lose games. It's not about rooting against your own team.

As GoGoGadget has said above, it's about management NOT applying any more heroic efforts to try and "save" the patient. It's about letting nature, so to speak, run its course.

I don't care what the situation is on April 18. I will ALWAYS root for the Kings. I just do not want to see Petrie - between now and then - make some trades that might help get us into the playoffs this season but leave us in the same predicament for the next few years. In other words, don't trade expiring contracts for a second-tier veteran who might help stop the bleeding temporarily but won't fix the real problem.
Yeah VF, I just don't get it.

It sounds to me from your answer that you would prefer to see the Kings in the playoffs rather than enter the Oden/Durant sweepstakes.

It is clear from many previous posts that many are hoping that we lose and miss the playoffs in the name of entering the sweepstakes.

Rebuilding Stage = it is a myth; it does not exist; it is a figment of your imaginations; those who lose in the name of rebuilding are also apt to spend time playing with their friend Harvey the rabbit.

Apparently not.

We have some good pieces and young talent. We have a need for a(nother) talented big over anything else.

This year's draft has several available - it is not a weak draft, especially in the first 5-10 spots, from all accounts.

If we suck already (which we do) and want to turn this thing around quickly (which we do), why NOT try to pick up another draft pick or two and shoot for one of the talented bigs available this year to speed the recovery from lower mediocracy we find ourselves mired in????

Combine that with possible significant cap room this offseason and this could be a rare opportunity to shape the future of the franchise for the next few years in one fell swoop. I say go for it. Is the current status quo to your liking instead?

Look at the Suns. In 02-03, they went 44-38, and lost in the first round to Spurs. They had a solid core of Marbury, Marion, Amare and Joe Jhonson.

In 03-04, they faced some injury issues at the beginning of the season. Team was not going anywhere. They found a sucker in Isiah, and traded Marbury. Ended up with a record of 29-53.

From 04 onwards, they have been huge, reaching WCF twice (while last year, they got a break due to the convoluted ranking system, they were also missing Amare), and this year, they are amongst the few with hopes to win it all.

By all accounts, one bad season was not the only reason for this jump. Coaching change was important. Plus, they continued to make good moves (signed Bell, KT trade, Diaw trade, which might land them another stud this year), and got good growth from their draft picks (Barbosa in particular). However, without tanking one season, they would never have been in a position to sign Nash and Q, and start off this quantum jump. They would have continued to live in the land of 42-46 wins, and first round exits.

The Knicks game was perfect: entertaining to the end, and a loss. I want to see the young guys out there getting real minutes against elite teams. There is no substitute for PT.

Tank away!

Exactly,

I could even live with us winning a few games as long as we get to see what our young people can do. In fact, if we win in a game dominated by our young guys, I'll be extremely happy.

What? Good lord... I have NOT said that, nor have I implied that. You are completely and totally missing the point to the extent where I actually have to wonder if you're doing it on purpose simply to be contrary.

Have a nice day...

but how is that possible? new expansion teams, like the bobcats, require building (cap space, picking some vets, draft picks); so if there can be a "building" stage, why not a "rebuilding" stage? nba teams must go through life cycles, the only difference is the speed.

i don't understand how rebuilding can be a myth...

Not to mention draft Amare....

we should keep this thread alive. it would be interesting to see people's opinions over time as the end of the regular season approaches and we see who's leading the race to the draft.

Wow this thread is nuts.

#1 you never "TANK" a season

#2 You can make moves... Lets say we go young Trade our vets for pics even get robbed on some deals with expi's... End of the day, you do NOT tank anything.

However you can make moves to benifit your future... Think its 2 different things.

BW - You need to read the whole thread. ;)

#1 has been addressed in quite a bit of detail.

The only problem is most people have already voted. It might be better to start a NEW thread with a new poll in a couple of weeks and see if attitudes have changed.
