...and since the Kings aren't doing a very good job of it these days, let's try something else.

Please name your favorite and your least favorite Christmas songs along with commentary if you wish. I'll begin.

Favorite: O Holy Night........perhaps one of the most beautiful songs ever written!

Least favorite: Grandma Got Run Over By a Raindeer.......Blech!

Merry Christmas, Everybody!!

Favorite: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (yours is great too, 6th)

Least Favorite: "The Twelve Days of Christmas" - there really is just no purpose for the existence of this song. It needs to go away.

Wow, hard to pick a most favorite. My mother's favorite was "O Holy Night" and I love that one too. Its so powerfully moving.

I also like "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," and "Silver Bells." Guess I have bells on the mind. :p

And I also detest "Grandma Got Run Over By Reindeer," 6th. I'd be hard-pressed to think of one I like less.

"Silent Night" and "White Christmas" are my favorites. :D

Followed closely by "Mary, did you know?" and the one about the kid buying the shoes for his mom.

great idea 6th!

Couldn't pick a favorite song, but my favorite Christmas album of all time is "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector" -- holiday tunes covered by Darlene Love, The Ronnettes, The Crystals and other 1960's girl groups.

My least favorite... I'm not a fan of super traditional Christmas music/carols. I like the more eclectic stuff.

Right now:

MOST FAVORITE:
O' Holy Night by Keali'i Reichel.
- Simply beautiful. This man can sing and has the most beautiful voice. Pick up Maluhia if you want something different and easy.

LEAST FAVORITE:
Away In A Manger or Hark, the Hareld Angels Sing

MOST FUN:
I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas by Gayla Peevy

I don't know why, but with the King's recent troubles, I would love to see a humorous, tongue-in-cheek Kings-themed version of this song reflecting their recent troubles. Unfortunately I'm not talented enough to write one.

I really like Sleigh Ride because in high school we played it for the Christmas concert, and I loved the percussion. I also really like the Grinch Song...you know, "You're a mean one Mr Grinch...." I like that melody and the vocalist. They showed him after the show last week.

Least favorite is "Do You Hear What I Hear"....just don't care for it...

Happy Christmas everyone!!!

FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK - THE POGUES & KIRSTY MACCOLL

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me,
Won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
And I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So Happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

They've got cars
Big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes
Right through you
It's no place for the old

When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen Of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more

Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on the corner
Then danced through the night

The Boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing 'Galway Bay'
And the bells were ringing
Out for Christmas Day

You're a bum
You're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip
In that bed

You scum bag
You maggot
You cheap lousy (edit: offensive slur that rhymes with 'maggot')
Happy Christmas you arse
I pray God it's our last

And the boys of the NYPD choir
Still singing 'Galway Bay'
And the bells were ringin out
For Christmas Day

I could have been someone
So could anyone
You took my dreams
From me when I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone
I've built my dreams around you...

I don't think I can say it here... its a Merry Christmas song about a snowman by The Showcase Showdown. Yeah, it happens to be in real poor taste but that's the kind of music I like.

So I guess I'll go with Merry Christmas, I Don't Want to Fight Tonight by The Ramones.

And yes, I do like traditional Christmas carols as well. As well as all of Elvis's hokey Christmas songs.

As for least favorite... I will skip over the uber-religious ones since they happen to be appropriate for the holiday even if I don't like singing them and go with Little Saint Nick by the Beach Boys. I love the Beach Boys but this song is grating. Also I think there is something really presumptuous about Do They Know its Christmas by Band Aid but I will give it a pass from the booby prize for being for a worthy cause.

I love "Rockin around the Christmas Tree"

...but I pretty much don't like anything else. I play it in my office to pretend to my co-workers but inside I am withering into an old moldy mass.

Just kidding. I really just don't like any versions of any song by Bruce Springsteen, or Paul McCartney.

"I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas"...

And pretty much anything by Mannheim Steamroller or Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

We just hung our ornaments. We wanted Christmas music so we put on the XM. For some reason the Christmas station we liked most the last time we wanted Christmas music wasn't cutting it so we put on the station called Special Xmas. Which is all funny songs and bluesy I'm lonely on Christmas numbers.

I think I have a new favorite Christmas song but I didn't catch the artist or the exact name. I think its called "Ornaments" though.
