First off, I'm not Piksi, but I do the best I can when he needs filling in.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now me not being Piksi, I don't believe in linning this early in the season, especially because my warped optomistic mind thinks this team can be dangerous once Artest gets back. It seemed Arco was a bit more full last night, like the fans forgot we had a home opener earlier this week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The commentary for last nights game was only slightly painful. I normally don't mind Hubie pointing obvious things out, but what he said killed me. He said that Kenny Thomas can score the ball, and he doesn't know why the Kings don't give him more touches. I wonder how much Kenny had to pay him to say that, and I wonder how much more it was to keep him from snickering. I can't remember the other guy (Harlan?) who was doing the color commentating, but every time he said Kevin Martin scored 30 points, he said it in a surprised sort of way like he was greeting someone he didn't really like but had to talk to anyway.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Say what you want, but teams have been focusing a lot of defensive attention on Kevin, but he continues to score. Its his game more than anything else. If he gets the ball, he will find a way to score no matter who is guarding him. He turned King James around like 5 times on one play yesterday, and Hubie was amazed at his quickness. He is too quick to trap, too good of a shooter to sag off, and too good of a slasher to play tight, so the only way to control him is to exhaust him on the defensive end.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the Kings are facing the worst team in basketball today, and they have a good chance of losing. With the Kings shoddy rebounding against a team that plays from the inside, it might even get ugly. There isn't much they can do about it as long as the big guys aren't doing anything. A bright note- Beno might debut today.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings played well last night, gritting it out to the very end. If you think Kevin was fouled on one of the last two plays, so be it, but really, I would've like to see the play go to someone else. Everyone in the gym knew Kevin was going to get the ball, and even with that he got a good look at the end that I thought was going to bank in. Mikki played a decent game, Brad continues to rebound, good thing its carrying over, and be a baby over every non-call. I loved that block he had on Sasha. Which Douby proceeded to ruin the awesomeness of it by getting reverse postered on the other end. Also, this game thread is missing something important.

GIANT RED LETTERING

There. Now it looks more like Piksi wrote it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought Reggie did a tremendous coaching job. He had his team switching defenses around like Bill Walton switches around the common sense of basketball. Its too bad there wasn't a better play for the end of game situation, other than that iso for Kevin. Also, the Cavs aren't that much different than the Kings. Reggie outcoached Mike brown, but the Cavs just have a whole bunch of misfit roleplayers, a center who is only good at 2 or 3 things, and a superstar who can carry them to the NBA finals. Just the Kings don't have that superstar, they just have a Larry Hughes that panned out.

I will break it down.
Cavs > Kings
Gibson < Bibby (hurt)
Hughes (hurt) < Martin
James > Artest (suspended)
Gooden > Moore
Big Z = Brad
Sasha < Garcia
Marshall (hurt) > Thomas
Brown < Salmons
Simmons = Watkins
Varejao (hold out) > SAR
Damon Jones = Douby
Snow > Greene
Dwayne Jones ? Hawes

I am just saying if King James had our roster instead of the Cavs current, he'd be in the same shape. Lose some rebounding, gain some scoring help.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Twolves are bad. Today is a game of two teams that once this decade almost had glorious regimes. It is sad to see how far both fell. I want to Kings to win, but I expect the Tpups will get their first victory today, unless Antoine Walker shoots them to a loss. Al Jefferson will tear a fat hole in our psyche, unless Reggie gets our swing men to swarm him. Timberwolves is just a strange collection of bad signings and 2nd rate prospects.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME

TDM went to Devin Brown

LW-VC award went to Sasha who isn't as big of a deal on this team as the national sports media thought. Orien Greene was almost a winner for this award because he played a good 6 minutes and caused way more problems than it was worth.

Methusaleh award goes to KT just for the heck of it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wolves are up, so best of luck to the Kings and no injuries. Kevin Garnett probably is in love with Danny Ainge right now, and I can guarantee he is not looking back at the Wolves. He might retire there, but he isn't thinking anything positive about that organization right now.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin - please don't get exhausted too soon.
Brad - shoot more, talk less
Salmons - you need to handle the ball more
Moore - must be allergic to sodium, because he is on assault-free diet. get some more fire and go after those boards. you know, try to exist.
Cisco - when you make those shots you look good. when you don't, you don't.

KT - our own "Microwave" says Hubie. Meaning he just sits there and warms everything. except my heart.
Greene - we don't need you to score... or shoot... or even touch the ball..
Douby - keep it up
rest - less than mateen

Coach Theus - good job with the defense, but lets get a composed offense. but great job so far, more than I expected.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Twolves are bad, this game could go either way, and I think it will be a large lead for one team or the other. Like I said, they are all the bad decisions good teams made with their midlevel exceptions but then decided that it wasn't the best idea (Buckner, Walker, Ratliff, Jaric, Doleac), and prospects that might be stars later and maybe were expected to be but so far it doesn't look good (Telfair, Green, SImien.) Al Jefferson is there and you will notice it. TDM goes to Craig Smith and LW-VC award goes to Greg Buckner or Antoine Walker. Methusaleh will go to SAR because he is sure to get some time.

GO KINGS

Very nice job, venom_7. It's really nice to know we have some depth on our "game discussion thread" bench that can step up when needed.

I think we are going to go to the game tonight. Our almost-5-year-old son has really been wanting to go, and that is just fine with me. I hope there are some cheap seats left! :D

Excellent job, venom_7. It was a very enjoyable read. As piksi's understudy, you have been learning well.

Just picked up 7 seats for tonight. A friend of mine and his family wants to go, too. Should be fun and we should get a win!

Just for the record, I hate ticketmaster. Adds 50% to the cost of a ticket. Where is the anti-monopoly enforcement when you need it....

My finances would allow me to pick up a cheap seat, but then I would not have the parking money. <sigh>

If anyone is headed up I-5 from the south and could pick me up, I'd love to go. I live near Garden Hwy and Truxel. :)

I thought this was interesting from Amick's blog, seems Garcia and McCants have history and not in a good way.

Keeping tabs on a struggling team means looking for the intrigue that doesn't jump right out and grab you, right?
Then I've got just the tidbit for you Kings fans.
Ignore the fact that tonight's game at Arco against Minnesota matches two teams with a combined record of 1-8, and keep your eyes focused in on Francisco Garcia and Rashad McCants.
It's safe to say - like bet-my-mortgage safe - that the Kings new point guard and Minnesota's shooting guard have no love lost for each other. Their caustic relationship dates back to their college days, when Garcia's highpoint was leading Louisville to the Final Four in 2005 while McCants' North Carolina team won the title that season.
The rivalry grew during summer league in July. Before Garcia was excused so he could go to New York and welcome his newborn daughter into the world, he had a very heated late-night exchange with McCants at a Vegas casino in which I was told McCants had to be thrown in an elevator to be taken out of the situation and Garcia was certainly not backing down. And by the way, it can also be safely noted that you won't ever see Garcia back down in those types of situations. For all his flair and Dominican style, he's a tough dude. As for McCants, his Hoopshype.com bio says it all in terms of his reputation - "difficult character."
Now both third-year players are being given opportunities like never before, with this matchup the latest in what seems like a can-you-top-this? sort of competition. The spoiler, of course, will be if McCants' sprained ankle that kept him out of Friday's loss to the Lakers sidelines him again. He was probably as of Saturday morning, though. - Sam Amick

That's Garcia's and Salmons specialties lol.

Thing is if Salmons, Garcia and Martin aren't all on we'll have a tough time beating many teams because that's where all the production comes from.

Well then, whadayaknow, soon as Douby comes in, the offense gets much smoother. Soooo nice to see Beno and Hawes play, finally!

Hawes has been saying his knee feels great, but he really looks like he's laboring getting his legs moving and getting lift. His foot on the leg that he had the surgery dragged once as he was running up the floor. Before his first 2 he really had to dig to get up in the air.
