Thomas and Greene to Philadelphia???

lol u guys wont believe this lol but i just got off the phone with a guy who works for the 6ers organization and he said the names that are popping up here and there are, Kenny Thomas and Donte Greene..... Maybe because of Carney being dealt and Randolph's knee??

But the talk is something about Kevin Ollie filler + a pick.... I told him that nothing they can offer the kings that would make us jump on. And he laughed....

(I moved this to its own thread...)

This is simply not going to happen. Geoff Petrie has been very high on Donte Greene for quite a while and I'm sure his presence in the Artest deal wasn't an accident.

This is like some of the trade ideas people around here come up with. Just because Philadelphia might like it is no reason to think Sacramento would even consider it.

You're usually right I guess, but that is too bad. Getting rid of Kenny Thomas should be a game-changer, and nobody is attached to Donte Greene yet. I wish he would do it - Kenny is like a pebble in my shoe. I know we shouldn't cut off our foot because there is a pebble in our show, but Donte Greene is no foot.

Uhh... I thought Kevin Ollie just signed with the T-Wolves. Granted, it was a hoopsworld article. http://www.hoopsworld.com/TheWireStory.asp?id=12658

I don't actually know if they did sign him or not, but Hoopsworld doesn't make up fake stories about a player signing with a team. They make up fake trade rumors and such, but not "official" signings, so I'm guessing it's true.

As for the deal (were it possible), no way. I'd be glad to lose KT, but I wanna see what Greene can do. He hasn't stepped foot on an NBA court yet, but he has value in this league, and looks to be the most valuable piece in the proposed trade.

I badly need to see Donte Greene in a Kings jersey lighting up the Lakers. Any trade involving him is 80% likely not to be any good.

The old "I know I guy who works for the team" bit, huh? Anyone who works for the Sixers would be well aware that Ollie signed with the Wolves days ago. It's not a rumor, he's in Wolves training camp right now. What the heck does "Randolph's knee" refer to in connection with the Sixers anyway? Are you talking about Jason Smith's knee injury? Brand's recovery? Totally nonsensical.

Why are some people so obsessed with getting rid of KT anyway? It would be nice, but it makes no real difference on the court and is not worth burning an actual asset to do so.

It would be nice to get rid of Thomas and his salary, but I am excited to see what Greene can do. Like you said, I dont think this is something Sacramento would go through with.

Have you been there and seen KT glaring frowning and pouting on the sideline? He is a buzzkiller that is for sure.

Donte Greene... well I think it is awesome I guess how loyal we are to a) Geoff Petrie and b) anybody who hasn't actually PROVED they are no good (I've seen hope spring eternal on everyone from Jabari Smith to Ricky Minard to Quincy Douby to, well, you name it).

I hope everyone is right about Greene. I have tempered expectations.

Getting rid of KT is a "game changer"??? Why? He sits. His contract expires in two years, next year he's a big expiring. Donte is a decent young talent we just traded Ron-Ron-Mc-Bill-Bill for. And yes, some of us are attached to the prospect he is to see what he can become.

You want to trade that for Kevin Ollie? An 11-year vet who scores less than 2 points and grabs half a rebound a game? Good grief man, why???

Because Geoff traded Ron for player A doesn't make player A good.

But you are saying that KT's contract is an asset because next year it will be an expiring contract. Maybe so... doesn't quite click into place for me like that but maybe you're right. Sounds like buying a an overpriced house so your mortgage interest deduction on your taxes will be bigger.

Um, back up there, buckoo...

;)

That allegation has not been true for a long time. Kenny was the invisible man for most of last season, so to allege that's he still a major problem is really old history...

Why would the sixers want him back? Aren't they the ones that traded him to us for C. Webb's bloated albatross of a contract? At least Kenny Thomas can still play which cannot be said of Webb, even when he was still a player.

As much as i/we would love to find a way to get KT off the payroll we have no lack of really creative ways to to it. A $7M center who is 6-7 is an oxymoron. Teams don't want oxymorons. I wish they did. And I think Petri loves the upside Greene brings. I'd love to know what Greene will bring to the Kings. Likely not much this year. But is should be fun watching.

We are rebuilding.

Rebuilding = building up from the bottom with young talent.

Greene = young talent.

Therefore the only deals where you trade away a Donte Greene at this stage are ones where you get back more young talent than you are giving away.

And Kenny Thomas is irrelevant at this point. the only way he becomes relevant is if Reggie carries through with his threat to move him back into the rotation. But that should be simple enough to deal with: fire Reggie, and return Kenny to his former status as irrelevant. No big deal. In any case its beyond pointless to burn any sort of actual asset to move Kenny at this point. Only thing that could change that is if we got serious about creating cap room for next summer, moved Brad and/or Salmons, and had just the one crappy contract left to free up.

Disagree. You play KT to showcase he still has some skills and value as trade bait. If nobody bites then sit him back down. The rookies still need time to aclimate and learn to play. It's not like they will be getting big minutes at the start of the season anyways.

This bears repeating. Kenny is no longer a poison contract, he's merely annoying. We don't need to get rid of him.

Chances are, he and Brad will be traded at the 2010 deadline to a team hungry for cap space in exchange for a bad contract (or two) expiring in 2011 and some combo of kids/picks. Until then, I wouldn't expect to see either one move.

Showcasing may or may not be a valid theory, but in this circumstance its completely irrelevant. There is no amount of playing Kenny Thomas at this point that could possibly make the lest shred of difference considering his status as one of the NBA's ultimate pariahs. He's a standing joke. There is no hope there. Wasn't years ago. Still is none. And certainly nothing you mess up your rebuild over by stealing minutes from the kids chasing...well, nothing really.

Your absolute best case trade scenario with Kenny at this point is that you somehow get somebody to give you an ender for him. That's it -- the best you can do. Young players or picks = virtual impossibility. And an ender for Kenny at this point barely matters...unless we have simultaneously dumped Brad and possibly Salmons. And then only matters in a positive way if we've got somebody targeted this summer. And its a thin crop.
