in-game management was bad enough under paul westphal. i thought the situation might improve when he was fired. it seemed impossible that keith smart could **** up any more than westphal had. yet, somehow, things actually got worse when smart was elevated from interim status. now it's just a countdown to his final game on the kings' bench... a slow and painful crawl to the end of the season, with each highlight dashed by keith smart's schizophrenic approach to coaching...

There is only one player with his combined skills, a starter with a charming personality, who could have said this for the greatest impact. The announcers have elevated him to god status, pick your religion. The endless half time IT specials have elevated him even further. Cousins would have been shrugged off for the obvious reason. Tyreke just does as he is told. In some ways, Tyreke is a coach's dream especially if the coach is incompetent. Didn't I write a note yesterday saying that if Tyreke had the attitude and personality of Cuz that this team would have self destructed and something would have had to be done either with the coach or with Tyreke and Cuz. We know how those conflicts are typically resolved ie, bye, bye coach. If I didn't post those thoughts, they were definitely in my mind.

Many other players are too new. Name another King that could have said this and would have been listened to. I'm actually surprised that little is being said about this. Although we all know that IT is correct, we are fans and have no say. This is a pleasant player rebellion. It is an expression of the players dissatisfaction with their coach and is not a common occurrence in any sports. Sure, there are players who are unhappy on probably all professional teams but in this case, IT is saying almost all the players are unhappy. That's unusual. My feelings about IT have gradually been changing but now I want this guy on the team. He IS a leader. (Now lower your hero complex, IT!)

I don't want to make this about IT as we have far too many threads about him but a guy like this is not common in any sport.

Technically wouldn't that be a DNC - TEAM's DECISION? What if the players all agree to ignore whatever he says and just play the game the way they want to the rest of the season while he throws a hissy fit on the sideline? That'd be fun. What we need here is a mutiny!

I think that is what happens a lot of the time. Smart still has control of who plays but I don't think he has control of how they play. I think part of the strange rotations could be Smart trying to get guys to do what he wants them to do.

As I pointed out in another thread, when even Tyreke Evans starts to complain about the rotations you know that the players no longer respect Smart. The only reason it's all coming out now is because its finally coming to the end of the season and the guys know Smart wont be here next season.

The Pistons had something like this a couple of years back with Kuester. It was actually a WAY more veteran team than ours with a few guys from their championship team still there. They boycotted a practice I want to say.

I think the best thing for this team to do right now would just be to ride out the season. It's obvious to everyone that Smart's an idiot and he's lost the team but I think it could do more damage in the long run - for our franchise and our player's development if they were to rebel in this way.

FUN, don't get me wrong. But not productive in the big picture.

I actually think you may be right about the bolded part. However, as far as Smart actually having a reason for his rotations, I'm not so sure I'd give him that much credit.

It’s funny yet sad. Why is he complaining? I heard a few games ago he didn’t answer the media’s questions after he was benched during the 4th quarter. Seriously? I like Isaiah but he has no room to complain about rotations. He gets enough time on the floor. Does it hinder their performance? Of course it does. It also affects a lot of things.

Here’s my problem, players come here and after a short period, start to think that they deserve a certain amount of time on the floor. And the constant Isaiah this and Isaiah that, has caused him to think he deserves more. I personally think this has become a big issue. And I'm not just talking about I.T, I'm talking about in general with a lot of players that come here.

He’s also right, we need a set rotation. Something that 99.999999% of NBA coaches seem to understand and actually execute. But somehow Smart lacks.

I honestly can’t wait till we have a serious coach in place. A coach like Rick Adelman. Something like the glory days where we played as a team, worked together, players played within the system and had fun.

Not too surprising. I would be surprised if IT didn't have a long talk with Smart about this behind closed doors also. Smart is a goner.

Chuck isn't the greatest player, but he's been under Adelman, JVG, and several other noteworthies. He's got leadership and expierience. I wonder how he'd do as a coach.....hmmm.

That is the thing with fans unfortunately -- there is no coach, NONE, who is ever safe from their backseat driving. There are Spurs fans who want Pop fired. Jazz fans who thought Sloan should go. People who think Brooks should be fired. Whatever. Lots of silly people.

Smart is something else though. Its universal with him, and unlike those other names, the results match the impression. I didn't care whether Adelman gave a great interview because he flat out got results. People railing against a guy who wins at that level are just being stupid. Smart does the opposite. Talks up a storm, messes up the team and has the second lowest winning percentage of any NBA coach. Still feels like a waste to me. yes, he's a used car salesman when he talks. But selling babble or not you can't run at the mouth like that unless you have a pretty good database about the topic you are babbling upon. The knowledge however is just not teamed with any judgment and his decisionmaking skills are comical.

Well, lets call this a learning experience for those that might have wished for Adelman's departure. Be careful what you wish for! There is no perfect coach, but undoubtably, there are some that are far better than others, and Adelman certainly fits into the better catagory. The only complaint I had with Adelman was his not calling timeouts sooner when everything was going south. He believed in letting the players play, and letting them figure it out. Which is why he liked experienced players, and wasn't a big fan of rookies. Young players make more mistakes. Limit your mistakes, and you have a better chance of winning. Not very complicated..

Obviously the reason we have a hard time figuring out what Smarts system is, is because he doesn't have one. Other than starting the same five players most of the time, just about everything else is flying by the seat of his pants. Imagine the frustration of players like Cousins, Tyreke, IT, and any of the better players on the team, when they sit on the bench for extended periods of time, as they watch players like Outlaw and Johnson dig a hole that they know will difficult to dig out of. Cousins, who doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut in the face of imcompentcy, was the first to become vocal. Now, with seasons end in view, others are speaking up.

I know its not popular, but I'm not against speaking up. To use an old saying, "Evil prevails when good men do nothing". Now I'm not calling Smart evil, but the principle applies. If nothing else, the players speaking up should cement any doubts in the new owners minds about whether to retain Smart or not. This man was a charlatan from the get go. Good riddance!

IT is just the same as every other player on this squad in respects to Smart. He has no idea how to utilise their particular skills.

He's certainly not been "appointed" "saviour" either. Lest we forget Smart's treatment of IT earlier in the season when he struggled to find his game.

I'll say it again, i believe Smart is a genuine person and thinks what he's doing is best for the team, he just happens to be wrong.

So if DMC was simply the first of the players to jump on this bandwagon of speaking out against Coach Smart (as Tyreke, and IT have in their own ways) why was DMC blown out of the water for doing so earlier?

Did he simply do it too early, or was it simply because he doesn't express his dissatisfaction "the right way"?

Either way, I had NO PROBLEM with DMC having a problem with Smart as early as he did, and speaking out against it.
If the rest of the team wasn't looking out for their own a$$es so much, they would have backed up DMC when he tried to make an effect early in the season.
The only way this year could have been saved is if the other players followed DMC's lead and got Smart canned early on - then we all could have had SOMEONE come in and at least TRY something different with this squad to help figure out what needs to be done.

As it is, this season was a complete and utter WASTE, all because noone but DMC cared enough to try to change things early on.

This is too little, too late, by IT (and Tyreke earlier).

The season was going to be a complete and utter waste anyway, for the simple reason the Maloofs weren't going to do anything that would encourage fans to come out and support the team. Coach Smart was not going to be fired regardless of what he did. i'm glad the players have found their voices but have no illusions that speaking up earlier would have made any difference at all.
