I'm writing this to make people feel good about all that is going on.

I've heard, seen, sensed the despair of some who fear the Kings may leave town, the league might contract on the Kings, or that some other catastrophic thing will happen to the team we love.

I want to share that I feel that in no other time in the history of the franchise in Sacramento has this been a more remote possibility. In light of the recent document coming out (and compared with the Samueli deal), in light of the events of the past year (KJ raising 10M in corp support, putting ThinkBig together, and with Chris Lehane on our team), in light of the comments of Glen Taylor, the sly insults of Stern toward the Maloofs (while maintaining he legally obligated stance to "protect his owners' right to exercise the non-binding terms"), in light of everything, here is one person's (mine) general conclusion:

What is happening now could not be more right. Could not be more full of progress. This had to happen. The Maloofs are being grotesquely exposed for the cheats they are, and these facts can no longer be hidden, as they have been in the past. The writing is not only on the wall, it is in legal documents shared by municipalities. They (not the Kings) could not be more screwed (well, time will tell about that). The bright light of day is being shone on the underbelly of the ownership and their operations, things that some have sensed all along. Now, with all the bizarre recent events, documents, quotes, press conferences, interviews, and statements, etc., it's finally a media story. They are getting SLAUGHTERED and in the next few weeks will continue to get slaughtered in the media.

Reporters and writers live for this. They will go over these documents with a fine tooth comb and and absolutely skewer the Maloofs. These are things that Stern, KJ, the BOG, must have known in the past several weeks.

So, my message to any who are not feeling incredible happiness and joy at all this insanity... BE JOYFUL!! TRUTH IS FINALLY COMING TO LIGHT!!!

If you personally don't feel like spending money on tickets, no problem. If you want to go and enjoy the games as usual (and even more so), no problem. The bottom line is that the truth of our love and support for our team is etched in the minds of the powerful, and the scandalous, selfish, and outright lying ways of the owners is forever exposed. Under these conditions, only the best can result for the SACRAMENTO Kings. It's a study in cosmic irony that the great arena deal is now "dead" but that everything is now in the right as far as general conditions are concerned. Don't trust in the appearance. Trust in what is happening. And what is happening can only lead to good. I'm only half kidding when I say Kevin Johnson is some kind of Jedi master to bring all of this about.

I really hope you're right. I want an happy ending for this story, which means Kings still in Sacramento, Burkle owner of the team and the completely broken Maloof selling pop corn in the new Arena.

The huge danger here remains the damage the Maloofs have doine/may do to the city's willingness to make the deal, or ability to make a deal if the morons from the CAVE movement can get something on the ballot. Maloofs can come back to the table, and dicker around, but the arena deal was the result of a huge year of passion and momentum. Now the Maloofs killed that. Even if their childish asses are dragged right back to the table, will there be political will/ability to do a deal again/have to start all over because of those morons?

I kind of doubt it. I don't think the City wants to negotiate any further with mendacious deal-breakers who set about to derail their own artificial deadlines. If there were a new ownership group in place I'm sure things would be different, but at this point I don't think there are five votes anymore, not for the Maloofs.
 
I think the city council will be done with them and won't continue to support the project if the Maloof's came back to the table. There were several members on the fence about the arena and now I think that bridge is burned. We're talking about a lot of money and a family of bozos as your "anchor?" Really doubt it. I honestly believe any hope of a new arena is dead unless new ownership is involved.

As far as the Kings staying... They'll eventually need a new arena again, so that will be their out when the time comes. No way the renovate PBP and no way a new arena will get any funding from this council at this time. unfortunate.

The Maloofs are a dead-end, but that doesn't mean this has to end poorly for Sacramento. My best guess is that the Maloofs sell in Sacramento with an arena framework in place and with commitments from the new ownership, or they sell to ownership in Seattle.

There's no way the team is going to LA/Anaheim and Seattle is the only non-Sacramento location that leaves the NBA without a massive black eye.

There's no way the Maloofs are tenants in a new arena anywhere, but they might kick the can down the road in Arco for a while if they can afford it.

i tend to agree in the sense that it seems more likely that the maloofs sell before the nba allows them to relocate to anaheim. now, there may be another city with a rich dude waiting that the maloofs can swing an 11th hour deal with, but i have no idea who would wanna subsidize these *******s at this point. they're very clearly being painted as the bad guys in just about every circumstance, and its hard to disagree with those characterizations...

that said, and while i appreciate the sentiment of your post, you kind of assume we live in a country that prizes justice over everything else. but its all simple, black and white, television fantasy. we love our cop shows. we love our "law and order." we love watching the bad guys get what's comin' to them. but, if the last few years have taught us anything, its that rich dudes--even fakers like the maloofs, perhaps especially fakers like the maloofs--are the ones getting away with murder...

like i said, the gravity of the situation seems on the side of the city of sacramento, but history is not. when the maloofs backed out of a non-binding agreement, **** got political almost immediately. and politics are messy. i don't expect anybody to walk away from this thing unscathed. not sacramento, which must go back to the drawing board. not the maloofs, who are, indeed, getting oceans of mud slung at them in a good old fashioned public humiliation. not the kings, who will almost certainly suffer casualties in the coming seasons. even if the team remains in sacramento, with a new arena scheduled and committed to breaking ground, it will likely come at the cost of demarcus cousins, tyreke evans, et al. i can't imagine that the maloofs won't turn donald sterling in a hurry, shaving payroll wherever possible in order to drag their fledgling "ownership" out as long as possible...

by the time someone like ron burkle rides in to save the day, there might not be much left worth salvaging. have any of you watched the bobcats this season? its more dreadful than anything the kings experienced in even their most pathetic of doldrums early in the season. expect a stripped roster of "most futile in the nba" quality. then its another long rebuild that should have gotten off the ground the minute we drafted tyreke evans. now, is this preferable to losing the kings altogether? absolutely. but i think its a mistake to characterize the collapse of this most recently proposed arena deal as a celebratory event. this is quite possibly the worst time ever to be a kings fan. there is nothing but uncertainty in the air...

You could be right about the latter part, but the first order of business is to keep the team here. If that means eventually having to rebuild the team again, then so be it. At least we would have a team to rebuild. I agree that there's a lot of uncertainty in the air, but better that, than the certainty the team is moving.

I read on another fourm that there are power brokers willing to step in and replace the Maloof's in the arena deal. In fact, as much as this was about keeping the team in sacramento, it was also about building a multipurpose arena for the city. The Maloof's would only be tenants for a guaranteed 42 dates each year. That leaves 323 dates open to other venues. So why can't the arena still be built without the Maloof's participation. Convincing the relocation committee to allow them to move, would be almost impossible, if it isn't already impossible, if they have a nice new arena to play in.

So I won't go gloom and doom until I see the enemy at the gates. The time for anger is over. Now is the time for intelligent people to come together and overcome the obstructions of a family of idiots. Its the time old story. If you want something done, then do it yourself. We don't need them to get this done.

What has the Maloofs family done to you to hope for such a horrible ending?

Did they cause your family the same kind of hardship or made you a homeless person?

I guess what I am saying is let us not be TOO HARSH with the Maloofs and also see the situation on their perspective. You don't want these things happening to your family. As far as I know the family has been good to Sacramento, until this unfortunate economic downturn.

Could it be that the Maloofs are just getting desperate and have to swallow what they are doing now for the sake of their family?

What the Maloofs have done: sabotaged every effort to build a new arena, whatever their motives are (to relocate, greed, or they just can't afford it), not maintained Arco, made Sacramento a joke with their recent naming rights deal, keeping the team payroll low resulting in uncompetitive teams each year, secretly negotiating with other cities, wasting countless hours and dollars of city and private (developer & AEG) time when they weren't negotiating in good faith, and worst of all--throwing the entire region under the bus with their mean spirited press conference last week, basically saying that Sacramento wasn't capable of supporting an NBA franchise. They can't afford to do what needs to be done with the franchise, so instead of doing the honorable thing for the people of Sacramento and selling to someone who is passionate about keeping the team here, they're playing games. I don't wish for horrible things to happen to them. They can sell their share of the Kings, pay off their debt, and still have millions left over to live a nice life and make other investments. But they want to be seen as rich Vegas playboys and won't do the only thing that makes sense for all parties.

You sir have deep seated personal issues. I hope it works out better for you. It seems you have to pick a bone with every single poster on the board, a new one each day. Good luck with that homie, and good luck with defending anything Maloof around here or anywhere in this city. You're obviously on the wrong side of the burned bridge.
 
I think the Maloof's have burned too many bridges with the city and will end up moving the team likely without league approval, like Sterling did with the Clippers (perhaps having Samueli pay their fine?).
 
Wish I had the same confidence.. unfortunately I don't see the proper outcry outside of Sacramento.. when I go to other message boards people just seem misinformed about the situation and rarely have proper empathy. Even Grant is now trying to spin this locally as a business price that should be footed by the fans and not the Maloofs

Let us not be too harsh with the Maloofs? Give me a break.
 
Why don't the Maloofs just admit they are broke? A lot of people went broke recently and it is not a crime. They sure are acting as if they are broke and if so, have even far fewer options then they might think. What IS a crime is dragging the citizens through the muck and mire of their inner family workings. Why don't we hear from Gavin? Why is it always the raving maniac George? This family HAS to be divided but somehow they think the best way to treat it's fans is to sic the rabid member of their family on everyone within ear shot.

Just sell and get it over with. Put your big boy pants on and admit that you have failed.

Joe Maloof a couple days ago explained why they are not broke according to his logic in an interview with Voisin of the Bee. Of course, they're basically insolvent (but so is California state government!) in relation to what the "rich and famous" family can - but mostly can no longer do. Sort of like the guy sitting in his mansion, totally underwater, and only avoiding notice of default by continuing to max out a wallet full of credit cards with big lines to meet the huge monthly mortgage payment. That won't last forever but he might just try to hold on as long as he can with the crooked ruse. Then he files bankuptcy at the very end.

After Maloofs lost controling interest in The Palms down to current couple percent ownership, they said it was a "prudent restructure," and due to "big turndown" in casino revenue all across Nevada. Well, ok - but it seems admiting a remarkable collapse of their once empire is way too much embarrassment and shame to have to actually admit in public.
