The Wrestling Thread~

Other than the missed opportunities to join in on the "Yeet Movement" and enjoy some "Tiffy Time", BOY, aren't I glad I didn't cave in to what were some outrageous prices just for an opportunity to look up at the video board hanging over the ring for a couple of hours in order to watch the matches. Not quite sure the 15-20 (maybe more depending on traffic) Uber ride from my house would've been worth it at the end of the day!!!

My kiddo always wants me to take him. maybe the spectacle is worth it but I am sure "watching" the match is awful. Even 200 level seats at Moda and so I assume G1C is where watching the screen starts to look more appealing than the ring.

Bret Hart still entirely justified in hating HHH’s guts
Bret looked like an angry/unamused parent when Austin was announced and he held up the bird.

The match deserved the honor (maybe Steamboat/Savage would have been the first if I was doing this, but that's really the only other choice), but the intro of them at the entrance was just weird all around. As opposed to everyone else who was super grateful to be there.

Did they have less nominees this year? The stage seemed small and most of it was Quake's family.

There were (technically) seven inductees, plus one "moment." Three of them (Kamala, Dory Funk, Sr. and Ivan Koloff) were part of WWE's new "Legacy" wing and, as such, were not in attendance and did not get anyone to be present to speak on their behalf. Three of the other four were at Mania for the in-stadium acknowledgement and the fourth (Luger) probably declined to go out and stand for the crowd due to his ongoing health problems.

Ok I knew Luger was in, was there a controversy about him wanting Sting to induct him or something?

Is the new Legacy wing different than the old wing where they nominated guys who pretty much exclusively wrestled in black and white footage? It's a bit wild that I actually saw two of those guys live in the 80s.

It's different in the sense that they used to invite those guys (or a surviving representative) to the ceremony to give a speech, and now they don't.
Which is weird because in the old-timey wing before they'd put in like 20 at a time. Now they did 3 and can't let anyone come?

Did they not nominate a celebrity this year (fine by me)?

Also. Michelle McCool - her whole run was basically my lapsed fan era - I didn't even buy a WWE game from Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 to WWE 12. It was the Attitude Era mode in 13 that sucked me back in, and not long after I got TJ into watching the tv shows and it was back on. Does she deserve this or it it totally a gift to Undertaker?

Michelle McCool's run as a full time wrestler lasted from 2006-2011. I think that it could be reasonably argued that she was no lower than the third-best worker in the women's division over the full length and breadth of that run. One of the two woman I would rank ahead of her for her entire run (Beth Phoenix) is already in the Hall of Fame, and the other one (Natalya) is still wrestling.

For the most part I missed Beth's run too but I've seen enough to appreciate Beth. Weren't Trish and Mickie James and AJ working a good chunk of this time? She's better than them?

I really had no idea.

I'll admit to forgetting about Mickie James, who was there for 80 percent of McCool's run. The other two, no: Trish retired four months after McCool's main roster debut, and AJ didn't make her main roster debut until 3 weeks after McCool retired.

So, drop her to fourth, then. Still, all three of the women ahead of her were/are first-ballot Hall of Famers, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Appreciate your opinion. I'll admit I'm probably biased against this period (men maybe even more) just because I didn't watch and I watched the whole New Gen era so not sure if it was just me or the product during this stretch.
