The T-Mac Saga of trades

If tmacs contract is expiring this year, ide do it simply for that reason. I do no want to pay martin if he's going to miss half the season every season here on out. I say we move martin, move forward and do work in free agency 2010.

We are winners without martin anyway, but I still do agree we can get something more for martin. If tracy is expiring, pull the trigger! If not even if he has 1 additional year I say hell no to tracy. Its all about making big moves this off season. While developing JT, REKE, Cassip and greene. Honestly martin is out of this picture now.

Not quite a salary dump, but...

If we were to make a trade like this I would prefer some needs addressed.

To me it looke like this:

Trade Kmart, K9, Noch and May for

Tmac, Scola & Budinger (or the rights to Sergio Lull).

Real GM: Trade ID #5349393

I would like to use a third team to move Tmac out so he doesn't poison our youth/hustle movement. So we cut him or find a third team that is looking to shed salary. (Maybe Milwaukee for Redd and Gadzurik. We would probably have to include a second rounder this year or Lull's rights or a first next year.) I like Redd's influence on the team better than Tmac.

Scola give you a good solid/scrappy player that will bang fo you and not complain about playing time as our young bigs develop. Budinger will somwhat replace Kmarts shooting and is about the same defensively (with a chance to improve and get better.)

If thats the case Martin needs to go, instead of over-paying a losing top scorerer, we can over pay an all-star low post threat.

the rockets can get alot for ol' tsmack. dude is a huge expiring! for a team like the knicks that is golden because he would instantly give him enough $$ to throw at 2 max players and some.

kings would need to unload kmart, noc and KT just to bring in Tmac. those 3 could reel in some good trade bait on their own. we need capspace but losing noc and kmart for that reason is not worth it.

Losing Noc for cap space would be worth it. Losing Kmart for cap space, absolutely not worth it!

Cap space , cap space, cap space.... big deal. Cap space is not the answer to our problems. We have the players in place. We need to add 1 nice big to control the paint. Dalembert or Okafor might fit the bill, but unloading JT, Martin, and any other young player defeats the entire purpose of what has been happening on this team currently, which is rebuilding.

Do you fill our bench is not already right where it needs to be? Our bench outscores our opponents almost every night.

This team is on the right track now. Unloading half the team to get tmacs expiring brings us NOTHING guaranteed back. Just having the mney doesnt mean a superstar is coming.

Beno is a productive bench player who can start for this club in stints - as long as he keeps his play up his contract isn't the albatross it once was...

Pretty much my sentiments re: Beno. The guy has been playing off the charts lately. How is it that people still want to trade this guy??? He is a PERFECT back up point guard. Loves playing off the bench. Can play one or two. CLUTCH. Defense much improved. Shooting the friggin lights out the past 15 games. Candidtate for MIP. Am I missing something???? Ok maybe not candidate for MIP, but you get my point.

Having cap space is not only about signing a FA. It provides enormous flexibility when talking trades because the salaries of players traded do not need to match for the trade to happen.

Golden State got Baron Davis from the Hornets because they had some cap room and a lot of expiring contracts to throw at the team that wanted to blow it up.

People seriously underestimate the advantages you have with cap space not only in terms of signing players but getting some players in trades for next to nothing.

Now I agree that trading Martin for just expiring contract is not enough but you can't tell me that if we had a chance to trade Nocioni and Beno for an expiring contract that we wouldn't take it?! Geoff Petrie and the Maloofs would be all over that deal like a rash. It would mean $13.5 million in cap space. Thats enough money to sign a good starter/border line all-star in this league.

For a rebuilding team, capspace is worth its weight in gold. Just like talented young players.

You are missing the fact that he is having a career best season and that he is earning starters money.

You could get someone that does as well as Beno if not better for a half or 2/3 of Beno's contract.

Im waiting for some names??? Easy to just throw that out there,, but even if there is someone making HALF of what Beno is making and is AS PRODUCTIVE??? Who the hell in their right mind would trade away that player? You make it sound like the guy is making 11 mill a season. Beno has a contract that is equal to his production right now. hell, Im sure we can go find plenty of players in this league that make close to Beno but arent half the player he is.
